There was a recall on the Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 for the torque sensor module according to the VIN number on my Pontiac it's been dealt with but I'm still having power steering issues thanks for the video.
Thanks so much for the info. I’ve been driving my car for the past few days w/o power steering and hopefully this fixes my issue. Starting to feel like popeye manhandling this car around.
The usual issue with these as well as Chevrolet Malibu's is the steering torque sensor located in the upper steering column and less likely is the motor, if the power steering starts shaking the wheel it's probably the torque sensor and eventually the power steering will go out completely.
Ray J I currently bought a 2006 Pontiac G6 and my power steering hasn’t went out while driving thank god but on occasion I’ll start the car up and get a no power steering warning through the radio but the sensor was replaced back in 2015 due to the recall what would you suggest?
@@brycelocke7325 I'm in the same boat, mine was replaced once under recall may have been in 2015. Dealership wants 1500.00 to fix it..car is worth less than that! I have heard success stories going to junkyards get the column with the motor already attached and swap it out, I see them on Ebay for 165.00 ish . it's a gamble for 2 reasons. The replaced part may have the same issue or may need calibration and I hear dealers don't want to do it. My Malibu has been going in and out not hard to drive unless you are in a parking lot. If I restart the car it usually works for awhile I'm living with it for now, will get a new car in a few months. 168,000 miles so it has served me welll....good luck!
I have a 2006 g6 that's having the same issue. Dealer says $1800 to repair. I'm advised to not do it myself because it has to be calibrated. If not calibrated, steering wheel can turn completely to left or right while driving at any speed. Scary stuff... will probably just get rid of the car!
I'm sure a calibration will be needed but I dont think the car will just randomly turn without one. U can do the job yourself then have it aligned at a shop that has a hunter alignment machine with codelink.
So I had both the elec power assist motor and the steering column changed in my 2006 Pontiac. Was working fine for a while and haven’t lost power steering. However now the message comes up. How can I make it go away? When I asked a mechanic, had no idea what I mean by calibrating the vehicle after replacing these parts. My dad originally did the job but we don’t have the machine to calibrate. How can i explain this better to a mechanic, and so I’m not taken for a ride, how much does this service cost?
Thanks for the clear demonstration. How do I know if the assist motor goes bad? Am having a steering problem in my Chevy Cobalt 2006. I see power steering alert on the dash board and the steering stops moving while I drive.
I know that there was a recall on some of the Pontiacs from that time being G6's but my power steering is now showing the light and when I look it up with the VIN it is not under the recall. I should check the pieces under the passenger board, hoping this isn't a $500 fix. Fingers Crossed!!
08 G6 I didn't have a key fob when I got the car($500) When I unlock the driver door sometimes the back doors unlock sometimes they don't Now the power steering When I start the car it's either there or not Sometimes i shut the car off remove the key and start again and it comes back or stays off
I have a 2008 g6. Often i have to start on and off 3or 4 times brcause the power steering " warning comes on. After several attempts, everything is fine. Also, the steering wheel twitches when idling. Whats up?
Hello i own a 2006 pontiac g6 and the power steering pump keeps displaing power stering posibl ice and at the same time make the steering wheel stif i have to turn off and then turn the car on and it goes back to normal. Your comment caught my attention because I also own a 2006 pontiac g6 and my power steering also goes out only while driving in low speeds tho and the only way to make it come back on is too shit the car off and then back on for it to go back to normal! So my question to you is have you possibly found out anymore information on this issue with our cars possibly?? If not no worries I'll keep trying to identify the issue just haven't had any luck yet 🤔 lol
@@christopherbuck5240 hello checked out more videos about this isue with this types of cars and out of 10 videos 2 say change the power steering motor the other said change the fusues or replaced the tork sensor. But since the power steering motor cost over 600 dlls im gona take it to a electric mechanic to have a better answer cause besides my car doing that with the power steering also my dashboard lights flicker on and off passenger air bag says is off and then on,and now the ac is not working on the front settings only true front windshield. @@omarortega7102 Have you found any solutions yet? Mines do the same sometimes at real low speed making a right turn I believe. Take the key out and turn back on and it’s back to normal
I have an 09 Pontiac g6. And my steering wheel wont stop shaking. It shakes at a red light on my brakes and it shakes in park. Im being told it could be the electric motor for steering box. I could use some help
I haven't had power steering for a while now, I've changed both fuses, cleaned connectors and tried to see if there was any pinched cables nothing has worked. What I'm confused about is if I turn my steering wheel as I'm starting my vehicle it works but only until I switch the gears any idea how to fix it? The part has been recalled and dealership has already fixed it prior to me owning it.
