Hey guys welcome back to another video, so finally we were able to create the review on the Saab 93 we hope you enjoy it. Stats on the car: 2.8L V6 Turbo 250hp 258lb-ft 6 speed automatic front wheel drive
I recently purchased an 08 9-3 aero convertible. Most of my issues are coolant related. Main issues are the expansion tank, expansion tank lines, water pump gaskets(above the water pump), CIM and SIM, and ABS module. Overall it’s not a cheap car but it’s cheaper to maintain than a bmw or Audi.
Gavin Willey congrats on the car. The car has a lot of problems but it is all fixable and we have had almost all of those problems with our car but we can't say about BMW and Audi because we haven't had an old one. We hope you enjoy your car.
Great video guys. Great cars - really sad Saab have gone but so much used car for the money now even low mileage, top spec cars are pretty affordable. So much class. Thanks and greetings from the UK
You need to press the red dial clear button on steering wheel to remove SID notifications alerts that’s why you can’t see the Gear numbers on manual mode
Saab is just a brand like Alfa Romeo for example. They aren’t really perfect, they have some problems, but at the end that makes them lovely. Great job on this review guys. Even though we also had one a few years ago, you told me some features I didn’t even know about
Saabs are real champs, we love them, such amazing cars it would be so cool if they were still around. With the way the cars from 07/08 looked and drove the way they did, we could only imagine how they would be nowadays.
It seems you still have not discover the " Night Panel " switch ! If you were driving in the evening or night time, when you switch the Night Panel, everything on the dash will be turned off EXCEPT the speedometer. One more thing, there is a tiny cooling fridge inside the glove box and a switch to turn it on so you can cool down your beverage during a hot summer day road trip..... Check your owner's manual and you will discover more detail and interesting things about SAAB .... I am a Saab owner as well :-)
Nice review! I'm purchasing a 2008 Aero convertible, I'm aware of the coolant related issues but, are there any concerns with the intake valves not seating like the 2.0T?
I really miss my old Saab. Truly iconic and lots of fun to drive. The 9-3 is a GM variant that was built on Opel platform. The 9-5 will really give you the true Saab experience. I totally agree about the Xenon lights - they were the best before LED’s.
It really is a fantastic car unfortunately it has so many problems and it cost a fair amount to repair. We hope to try and get a 9-5 review we keep hearing it is such a great car.
Vinnie Daniels unfortunately looks like we might have to start searching for something new. This car just keeps on coming with problems like the doors won't lock the ac died on us and the lights don't work like they should. Really great car but with a lot of price repairs.
Hi, just a hint, if you clear the error showing conering lights, the display will show the extra info like gear posotion, sports mode ect, the priority of the display are the errors but if you press clr it will disapear and show the rest. I have a 9-3 Aero convertable best car i have ever had and will not change it till it really dies. All you need for your car is just a bit of TLC and it will serve you well for years. Hi from Italy
Thank you for the hint. Saabs were and still are such great cars, it is sad that they stopped manufacturing them. We send our hellos from the U.S.A.. Thank you for writing.
Sport mode selection is shown on the display, as also selected gear in manual position. Just need to acknowledge the error message first ;-) Every single post-2008 9-3 I have seen have had parking sensors on rear bumper, wondering why this one is lacking those. Usually Aero models have pretty much all accessories that were available. I don't get why you could not use such car as a daily driver, they have few typical faults but neither of those are that common. Also the 6-speed Aisin gearbox is one of the most realiable ones. It's pretty reliable car, driving my TTiD Aero every day and loving it :-)
The error message was a little bit of a problem because it was a new car to us but we sorted it out. Maybe the car was an early 2008 that's why it doesn't have any parking sensors. In our case we got the car for a solid price but when we got on the road the transmission locked and that was it. The fix wasn't so cheap and every single day was a new problem. Once we took the car home the door locks would not work, then it started leaking coolant, after that the ac just stopped working, and finally at some point it wouldn't start at all. So for us it was more problems than anything else. We love the car but we wish we had a better and longer time with it.
@@highrevs6586 Sorry to hear that, seems you have had quite bad luck with the car and got all possible faults :-( The transmission for example is Aisin-Warner AF-40, which is very common among multiple brands and has very reliable reputation. Error message can be acknowledged with CLR button on the steering wheel btw, just need to do that after after every start ;-)
Yeah unfortunately we didn't have a great experience with the car but If we were to do it all again we would because it is such a cool car especially for an 08. Thank you for writing to us. Do you have any connection to a Saab of any kind?
Sport usually shows up with an S but you needed to clear the corner malfunctioning on the dash by pressing clr on the steering wheel along with what gear you are in when you put it in manual
I am buying a Saab 9-3 Diesel 2008 or more i have asked 5 owners so far and they love them and never had one problem one has done 480000 ks no issues. i love the shape as i had a Saab 900i many years a go
My 9-3 2.0t has been cheap to run to 125k. Not quite toyota cheap but far less than BMW/Audi/Volvo etc. It’s been so good I just bought a 9-3 Aero. Again I expect it will have a few things but if you’re looking at european companies you’ll be hard pressed to find something as nice for the price IMHO.
You should have cleared the trip computer alert and you'd have seen what gear you were in amongst various other info. The clear ("clr") button is the bottom most button on the left steering wheel button cluster below the left paddle. I think it's under the "call" button.
The interior quality is pretty good, you do have your plastics about the place but their is a good amount of soft material where you would be touching. But the seats a really comfortable and just for that we would buy the car.
H • Great question. The main problems with these cars are: coolant leaks, engine could stall due to faulty fuel pump, expansion tank problems, abs module and ours specifically had: problems with the transmission which led it to be in the shop for 6 months because while driving the transmission would lock, one by one the fuses all started to go, then it wouldn't start sometimes, and the exhaust pipe fell. Hope you found this informational.
@@highrevs6586 I absolutely have NO problems you described with my 2006 9-3 2.0T .... Perhaps you did NOT take good care of your car then things happened like those in your description !
@@lorddiablo8575 i have one of these and its very reliable. i know someone who went over 100,000 miles with one of these and only had to replace the battery. they are pretty reliable
@@highrevs6586 And what a Shit Saab every thing is bad on it. They are really good but you need to do a oil change every year or 6000-12000 miles (10000-20000 km ). And the one you reviewed was not the best example. And you could get it with XWD (awd) but it came later
We love that Saab, we had some real bad luck with the car, but it held till the end. It is a great car, with crazy performance and comfort beyond, but mechanically it wasn't in our favor it kept giving problems from day 1 that we got the car. The best part about having a Saab is the community that surrounds it. Thats is the best part.
RustyBeerBottle this Saab takes it to another level. Never had to put our foot so far to brake so little. When we let someone drive it, they we asking if the car had braking problems.
So you see this and you like "that's a 2008 car"?? Noo. These guys were so far in designing from the rest of the car makers. It's sad you can't buy a saab anymore
That is very true. What a car it was, ahead of it's time. It is really sad that they went out of business. Would have loved to see how the car would look now.
