I picked up a 2008 Subaru Liberty (Australian Legacy) 3.0R a few months back with the flat 6. It drives like it's on rails and just takes off like a rocket at any speed. What a car!
This owner mods stuff *EXACTLY* how I like to mod. All about handling and daily userability. No stupid interior mods, striping it out, stancing, far cannon exhaust, ratting, stupid dangling thing on a OTT tow hook. Instead, making it useable, comfortable and tasteful. Like as if it was a factory performance option(s). Stealth modding FTW.
@@emmareporter4324 literally switch the muffler to a flowmaster dbs and that is it. You want to leave the rest of it stock because of drone. Also engines dont handle mods well prior to tuning.
The Spec B is essentially the "STi" Legacy, where the GT is the Legacy "WRX" for the USDM. The legacy was the "grown up" version of the Impreza; so no big spoilers, a more comfortable ride while still being relatively quick and handling relatively well. Fun fact, the chassis of the WRX shown in this video is based on this gen legacy.
The legacy was the original impreza, it used to be subarus small quick sporty model. When the impreza came along and filled that slot, the legacy turned into a more gentle, smooth daily driver that still had some of the sporty left in it. I drive an N/A 2010 legacy 2.5i and, while it certainly isnt the fastest car in the road, it still has a bit of power and sport hidden under its "mom car" appearance. Bringing it on the highway, putting it in manual mode and climbing the tac is where its inner impreza comes out.
@Methamphetameme in VT, finding any subaru without storage places for cocaine in the frame and rockers is impossible. I have a imoreza and a project wrx, but may sell them both if ibfind a clean legacy like this, in good shape. Brilliant car. You lucky shit.
"All of the go and none of the bro." I've always loved the legacy's from 05-09 because of that. Nice looking sedan, fun to drive, doesn't draw too much attention
As an Impreza owner of the same year (2008), I wholeheartedly agree. I'd have gone for a Legacy if I could have found one I could afford, but I'm still happy with my Impreza (even if it doesn't look at good). Legacy wagons of that generation were especially nice looking. Shame we're not going to get the Levorg any time soon (if ever).
as it is the legacy is more for the "adult" sense where as the wrx and Sti are for the more "boyracer" I love the in your faceness of the Sti then again I'm 22 maybe when I'm older I'll grow outta that.
Yemi Joel I'm 25 and I drive a T5 volvo lol. I like the sleeper factor of it because NO one tries to race. Doesn't draw any attention from cops either, but every single person I've given a ride in it has been impressed. But my car is really about comfort and reliability more than going fast. If I wanna go fast, I have bikes for that
Man that flip-up license plate thing is probably the coolest thing I've seen on this channel in a while. It seems so illegal but so awesome at the same time!
Mr. Regular always hits the nail on the head with the typical Suba-Bro references. Here is a real life example of one I encountered several years ago. Once upon a time, I was pulling into a gas station in my new-to-me Acura Integra. It was the first car I ever saved up for and bought myself, and I was very proud of it. It was very clean for the age and price I paid. But I digress. As I was pulling in, an acquaintance of mine whom I knew from some car meets flagged me down and I pulled in to chat. He was with a friend of his whom I did not recognize, let's call him Bro-skee. Bro-skee was driving a Subaru STI, the hatch one. Of course, since we are car people, we started speaking in car speak. My acquaintance started asking me about my new car and exclaimed that he liked it. Us talking about another person's car must have upset Bro-skee, because he quickly interjected. Bro-skee proceeded to start talking up his STI like it was the second coming of Jesus. He said his STI could pull away from my Integra at half throttle, and essentially that my car is nothing compared to his. He literally insulted my car right in front of my face. All of this without ANY advances on my part. I like Subarus. I've always been interested in owning one, but now whenever I stop and think about getting one, I think of this interaction.
Don’t let one interaction change your view on Subaru owners! You always get one in the pack that is like this.. I always complement anyones build if I don’t like something I would say but not go to the length of disowning the person car.. you get that with everyone car fan boy that think there car model is the best.. any real car enthusiast appreciates all cars with there pros and cons
Ya really it is... my fiance and I bought a 2014 hatch for her when the 2015 first came out and we test drove some which I came out of feeling like it was just a regular car unlike my 05 sti at all. I do think that the fa motor in the new wrx is much better than the ej is though.
When I bought my STI in 2007, one of these was sitting inside the dealership. I gave it a longggggggg lookover. Good looking, quick, more refined. Big fan.
The 4th Gen Legacy design was so near perfect that even the Outback wagon had a great stance and lean to it. By far my favorite gen. of Legacy. I shall not speak to what Subaru has done to them since.
There is also a BL5/BP5 2.0 GT Spec. B, sold in Japan between 2003 and 2008 and (briefly) Australasia. At 276hp in Japanese spec, it had more power than either the H6 or the 2.5 (and a twin-scroll turbo).
More of the fine work we love from the best car reviewer on the web. Keep up the good work Mr. Regular, your the best distraction we have in these uncertain times.
I've been patiently waiting for this review ever since I watched "Getting to Know Regular Car Reviews" sooooo happy now especially since I love these things
Car culture in America is so unbelievably strange. This likely speaks to a larger issue concerning how we're socialized as men in America in regards to competitiveness, ego, and this need to be seen. Think about all of the negative connotations with Subaru. Now imagine a lineup of performance sedans without the "bro." It's hard not to appreciate them.
Bro: WRX EVO G8 GT Charger R/T Mazdaspeed 6 Mazdaspeed 3 Focus RS Any AMG Sedan M3 (E36) Not Bro: Legacy Spec.B Corolla XRs Matrix XRs 323 GTX Taurus SHO M5 M3 There are a few that are hard to call, mainly in the realm of Bentley and Maserati.
Mattalot Now I want a spec B and not a SHO Some people look at the sho the same way "Ehhh big family sedan can't doing anything...for sure win" 30 sec later How did I lose to a family sedan I need this car, fast and fun, but doesn't draw attention.
Thats my EXACT reasoning Jon, at tbh i love the look of the wagon :3 Im checking it over on Thursday, both me and the seller have agreed on a price. So fingers crossed it runs as well as he says and we finalise.... #FirstCarGoals
Subaru's in my opinion aren't the prettiest things in the world, but they're so rare outside of Japan it feels like an occasion when you see one passing by. Anyways, just wanted to say that, now on to the video. To all the random people of the internet, thanks for reading, a good day to you ^^
it's called a Subaru Legacy. They are like the most popular subaru car in New Zealand. Here, most are automatic, and the station wagon version from the 90s is the most popular.
my mazda3 is one so immediately everyone thinks its a sports car lmao. like no, its a 155 horse bone stock mazda 3, i just happen to know what im doing
So Regular Cars posts a video testing Gears and Gasolines Spec. B and Cold Fusion comments talking about their Subaru experience. What a gathering of RU-vid greats!
This is the nicest Subaru ever made, IMO. I got to drive one of these on a dealer trade when I worked at a Subie dealer in like '07. Definitely was a nice ride.
2007 Spec B here, love it! I get asked more often than any car I've had if I want to sell it. Love the sound, look, leg room, and how it drives. Great video...
byalexandr I find it funny that even though I daily a 2.5i sedan from the same gen, I still catch myself staring at it. it's properly understated but manages to look so good in person.
DustinB855 i daily a lgt and I don't regret it. I'm also enjoying the extra 10 grand i saved not getting a hawk eye. i actually just moved out of my apartment with just the lgt and a Nissan versa the extra space helps too. :D
Maybe? Or maybe RCR just wants a better car. Silicone sally was just a $5,000 used car he bought years ago when he first kicked this show off. I think he deserves an "upgrade".
actually he bought sally when he totaled his pride and joy, a 2002 Toyota Echo. First car bought FOR the show, with patreon money, but the show started with him using the echo.
When I looked on the comments of the Gears and Gasoline video of the motorized license plate thing, some dudes were talking shit about this Spec B. I'm still salty about it tbh because the Spec B is a damn good car .
The legacy (of this generation) is already a seriously underrated car. I've wanted one for a while now. Much much more comfortable than a sti. Still sti capable, and blends in with traffic like every other Accord and Altima. But this spec b is a unicorn of a car. Great video
CrazyIvan1337 Lol, would love to own one, but unfortunately I just have a normal Subaru Legacy Wagon. It's a gen 2, and I think the gen 2 GT-B is just an awesome car.
Aw, darn. That's still cool though, the 2nd and 4th gen Legacys are subjectively the best looking of them all. Unfortunately there aren't any videos of mine on my channel, but I'd like to clean it up one day and do a little review/walkaround of it soon. There's an older picture of it on my G+ profile though! lol
You don't think the Spec B has any amenities? There was only one way to get the Spec B and that was absolutely loaded with every option the legacy had.
Was waiting SO long for this. I love the 4th gen legacy, got a 08 3.0R myself and I love it. Took it over the 2.5GT Because I need the added reliability.
I lost my shit at the ballsack stretching kit line. Thank you so much for the laugh...I was having the shittiest day ever and you cured it all with one joke.
