It's because of product cannibalization. The A4 was definitely eating into the A5 sales numbers and they thought a clear divide would make sense. Remember, these guys are paid to squeeze as much $ from us as possible. Now they can charge way more for an electrified A4 and say that their A5 is the only introductory sedan option they have (A3 Sedan is a joke in terms of proportions). I am quite curious how they would handle the A6, a car known for losing value fast, being the middle child it is
I feel like this is a bit different than haptic. Touch screen is way more responsive and it looks like the design is more touch-friendly. It’s essentially no longer a button, more like a slider that one would use in their iPhone. Not making excuses, I prefer physical buttons but this is certainly not as bad as the original haptic crap we dealt with in late 2000s-2020
i think the majority said in surveys they liked them, its just us car-guys who dont like it, but we are like a single digit % of their overall customerbase, we are basically a loud minority.
While i hate the move it makes sense for Audi. The A5 and A7 name are fairly New, compared to the A4 and A6, b9th names with a lot of heritage behind them. For enthusiasts it makes no sense throwing away the heritage models and keeping the new ones, but Audi wanting to sell EVs, it makes sense for them to keep the heritage names for EVs. Still dont like it. When I hear A4 I will forever think of cars like the amazing B5 and not of toasters like the upcoming A4 EV. Glad I have an amazing 5pot engine in my RS3 instead of some boring electric thingy.
Well audi started with the 4 doors coupe in this range. So obvious they gonna steal some designs. BMW did that with the rear bulging fenders from the Ford Mustand to attract more American consumers
And I hoped that at least premium brands will return buttons because it could be considered as a premium option now. I would literally pay extra to have a physical buttons on when and for climate control!

It's Touch and normal Buttons in one. You can either press the Buttons or swipe over them. Just watch a Video from someone who was actually at audi and reviewed the thing IRL

Audi is killing the A5 Coupe, the A5 Cabrio and the A4 Sedan. The rest two models are merged to one name that the customer dont get this quick. In the end we lost 3 versions of cars.
I would argue it's easier and safer to use a phone which is always more intuitive and you know it very well and can hold firmly in hand. It's baffling to me that governments don't regulate this stuff. It's a safety issue and all they do is force manufacturers to add collision warnings and stuff like that to remedy it which then increases the cost of cars. Europe is a mess.

@@eliasmaissour437 My 2018 S4 only activated the right side pipes in dynamic mode and under hard acceleration. The car looked rather ridiculous when it was cold/snowing and keeping only half the tailpipes clean was silly.
£68k is crazy when you can pick up a fully-loaded Kia Stinger with all the same tech and the same power for £30k. Or even a BMW 440i fully loaded for roughly £38-40k!!
More and more I prefer older cars, not talking about Audi only. Many new cars look too "artificial", with no own character. It's more like putting more and more digital/electric features, so they look "smarter", only to compensate that they have no "soul" anymore. Am I the only one thinking like this?
No they all just steal the same designs like i personally dislike the double screen in all these cars, i think the audi q8/rs7 have the best interiors and older bmw x6 but now everything is trash

Cars are just modern cell-phones. Rapidly updated with tech and nonsense...the entire concept of being a useful/reliable car has been secondary for a while.

Cost. Genuinely. They get to pretend they're being progressive and "modern"...but the reality is they can get dirt-cheap digital panels/displays and they can slap them in every car they make, etc. It's all about cost savings. They can also then just flash software to pretend they've updated the car every two years.
@@oskar6661it's cheaper to put plastic buttons rather than produce, program and synchronize multiple screens, come on. Some of the manufacturers did it as part of the facelift, i.e. it clearly increases costs, it was cheaper not to touch at all.
It's a market requirement, sadly. You can see how porsche been replacing highly ergonomic buttons on Macan with sensor panels, just to make the car look more"modern".

The death of physical buttons is driven by costs. Manufacturing physical switchgear and having to refresh it between models is not profitable over time. Screens are just screens. They’re in no way as useful or safe as physical switchgear and buttons but they are a lot cheaper to slap onto a car and call it a day. Then you, the customer, think superficially that you’re getting a good deal and smart technology, when in fact you’re just angry that you can’t find where to turn the radio down. And then you drive into the back of a HGV.
Audi's interior design last generation was perfect. Nicely integrated drivers display, simple clean graphics, a simple infotainment screen and dedicated climate controls. This just feels worse and frankly a bit dangerous.
yeah its too much with all the screens! too much plastic and too blend sort of. Nah I will stick to the facelift models. Perfect balance beteeen screens and design

@@MrStylesp9 I don't know... I like the rear a lot more than that of the old A4 Sedan, the front looks okay I guess, though I was a fan of huge grills. The interior manages to look futuristic while keeping it rather conservative at the same time. Since I paid around $20k for my 2016 A4 in 2020...I'd buy the new for 30k. 😂
agree. glad i got the last real Sportback. i love the profile similar to the A7, nothing else like it. but now it's just like every other sedan/hatch type design and just a subtle look. i couldnt tell if that was a sportback or sedan

The auto industry started the slope after the 1990's were over, honestly. Yeah there are better things now, but as a whole, the auto's peaked in the 90's and went downhill ever since.
Why they put a screen in front of the passenger is just beyond me.. as if this car isnt expensive enough, lets just add another useless screen and charge a nice margin on it.

I love Audi (I own a B 9.5) and their inconspicuous design philosophy, but they took this minimalist approach and jacked it on steroids. It looks like they opted for a pharmaceutical research lab as a backdrop for the presentation, and I guess I’m glad they didn’t force the presenters to wear scrubs and crocs. Cheers!
If people don’t like electric cars, we will simply make everything exactly like in an electric car, besides the engine. Then ladies and gentlemen when the people are cooked enough, we will change the engines aswell for good. I am disgusted by this successor of 4/5 series.

They're not really changing model names, they're changing technologies. In the future every Audi will be electric (or at least not an ICE). So the main models for Audi will be the electric A4, A6, A8 and the to be phased-out ICE models get the odd number scheme.

Trying to amalgamate the 4 and 5 series to make space for electric models. But the old Four series estate was the small estate people wanted and the sportback a5 was fairly unique in the market
Does anybody actually like the rear light? It completely ruined the A7 which would have been so sick without it. Now the a5 seems to crawl into the same grave.
When I heard the even and uneven number thing from a local seller I couldn’t believe it. And they even name it A6 e-tron to make 💯 sure that it’s an electric car. RIP Audi.
It says something about your company when your brands moto is "Advantage through technology" and you dont have a single engineer talking in the reveal.
They're preparing the whole brand to ditch ICEs altogether. Naming EVs differently now would mean two transitions instead of one ("A4 -> E4" and back "E4 ->A4"). They made the right choice. Also, "etron" is a slur in French, I doubt Audi will keep this around for long.
Audi had the best naming system of all car brands. From the name you can immediately tell how small/big and powerful it is. And now they gone fked it up

This car screams boring...if that's somehow possible. Audi used to have a beautiful ability to turn out refined, understated but attractive cars. Obviously they lost that capacity.
Audi: Let's throw a few big displays in there and perhaps they won't notice the interior downgrades. It looks like they cut costs literally everywhere. I'm disappointed
Hard Pass. They have eliminated all masculinity from the S5. The new front end looks like a Ford fusion. It’s not terrible, but it is soulless. I had a A5 Sportback and now I have a S5 Sportback, call me biased but nothing beats the Sportback roof line. And all that interior tech… Absolutely no one will use most of it and in my experience and the more things something can do the more things can go wrong with it. This isn’t going to be on anyone’s bucket list.
Audi adding more screens we don't need. Why do we need rear and front lights that change ? If damaged the lights will be very expensive. Why did the designer say bring us to" instead of take us ?
The A5 sedan looks like a larger BMW 2 series Gran Coupe. The door handles are straight from the latest BMWs, I guess to improve aero. The headlights remind me of Mercedes. Looks good but not very groundbreaking.
