200cc Shifter Kart FIRST RIDE

We ride the Lifan 200cc 5 speed go kart for the first time, and it's one very fast racing go kart. We had to finish by simplifying the Lifan's wiring, running a Go Power Sports, clutch cable, welding a brake pedal, and fabricating a quick shifter before we could ride it.
I had a hard time figuring out the shift pattern- I eventually shifted it without using the clutch. It had tons of power, and neither of us reached peak 16 horsepower at 8500 RPM either. Next week, we'll take it out to a secluded stretch of road where we can try for a speed run.

Better idea: put a semi auto 5 speed 230cc 4 stroke. No clutching required its a centrifigul clutch so all you do is let off gas and shift then get back on the gas. Thats what I'm building now. The semi auto is the way to go

@IndyHelis after riding motorcycles for most of my life I know that blipping on the downshifts is needed to "nicely" downshift a constant velocity gearbox hence the kit doing this for the user. Also upshifts can be done without the clutch by simply timing the shift to slip through the slack between power on and power off. You get used to it after a while.

Definitely needs a beer tap handle mounted to the floor on a pivot and a linkage to the shifter spline. Oh, I'm not sure if anyone has said this, but once you get a solid shifter setup you shouldn't need the clutch to shift - just let off on the throttle. Awesome build!

My favorite part of this video was when you said that the rail cart was built to heavy. I thought that every time you guys would weld more 1/4 inch plate on. But it is still a very bad ass dragster. Not many would have even tried to build one, including myself.

Suggestions for your shop. bolt the vice to something heavy. bolt the bench grinder to a bench. when plasma cutting the diamond plate cut from the smooth side. Suggestions for the 5 speed killer cart larger sprocket on the axle. This will give more of the line power and you probably don't need as much top end speed If the diamond plate is too flashy for you paint it and then scuff off the paint on the pattern. heat shield on the motor Great videos. Behind a small Chrome cap is an oil filter screen held in by a spring it needs to be cleaned out every oil change. Adjust the needle and put in bigger main jet 2 Fix flat spot. Worked for me.90mph? Love the build keep up the good work!

Don't need to use the clutch all the time, that motor has a sequential gear box, to upShift just ease off on the throtle and pull the lever. Downshifting it is best to use the clutch or you will start to break things. Looks great fun to drive , keep it up guys.

My favorite part is the way it revs up and down like a race car. There's practically no time at all for it to spin back down to idle and I think that's just one of the coolest sounding things an engine can do

The best part about this project is, that i had this idea for 23 years. A go kart with a motorcycle engine and Transmission. My girlfriends dad said that it is imposable. the only difference is, that i wanted to build it with Suspension. great job.

If it will hit 120, I recommend finding a wide open road. Loosing control at high speed fiddling with that shifter and slamming into one of the multitude of trees lining your road could be disasterous.

Hey guys I'm from Costa Rica and we here have those specific motors here for almost every motorcycle, I mean, the motor is exactly exactly the same one, since those are some pretty good motors there are a LOT of replicas down here, and Also people heavily modify them, again in a motorcycle, but I have seen some people that changes the piston and the lever the valves and I even seen people put a 70 mm piston diameter on those... they made up to 26 hp, once again in a motorcycle... think about that in the weight of a go kart, there is So much room on those motors to modify you guys will never think about IT...! Excelent Work by the way :-D PS: my own motorcycle I have Rev it up to 12,000 RPM with the original Taq

Diamond plate still works. Paint it flat black if it's too much bling. How about a very short shifter lever down by your right hip or thigh? Will the shifter fit between your legs? Am I getting too personal?

A couple of thoughts, # 1 change to hand clutch mounted to steering wheel or shifter. # 2. move brake pedal back to it's original position. # 3. Design shifter linkage so shift handle is not directly connected to the shifter on the engine. # 4. Add front brakes. # 5. change gearing to lower top speed and increase of idle torque. Next find a track to take it too, then put on Dyno to see what the engine is putting to ground.

Just make it paddle shift. Its out of the way, more comfortable, and much easier to use. Also you don't have to take your hands off the wheel. I know its not as cool but its so dangerous with a suicide shift. Yeah but whatever.

Its not a suicide shifter. Its a suicide clutch, because you had to keep your foot on the clutch and your other on the ground. People would start to tip to the left, take their foot off the clutch and get launched into traffic.

You need to just get a shifter like a shifter kart, they have made that shifter to be the most useful it can be, having your elbows tucked close to your stomach is the safest and most efficient anyway. If it was me i'd be copying what the pros do.

I have a good friend that uses a flight simulator joystick for a pc for his shift Handel... looks and works great... he took full advantage of the extra buttons for his kill switch and pump... just a thought could be nice. I have 2 old 4AGE camshafts. I can tap one out to M12x1.25 at the pulley end and throw a shift knob on top of one for you. Then just cut it down if it’s too long and make it work 👌🏼

I have a Suzuki gsxr 750 engine +130hp efi that I was thinking of using on a go kart but I think I would go crazy and end up crashing I looked into bigger 2 seater off road go karts maybe would be better suited for a big engine

What do u mean? He finished he snow bike, the half skateboard/engine thing he finished. And it ran mint. He scraped a few jobs because he is a solo mechanic and he cit his losses so that he could bring in better content. They were good ideas, but the bmw failed and generally people do not want to watch someone figure out how to fix something thats not worth fixing.

Suggestion for the shifter mechanism. Mount the bottom of the shift lever on a strong pivot, then a rod back to the gearbox shifter spline. It will feel rock solid and depending on how far up the shift lever you attach the rod, will determine the shift lever 'throw'. A nice short throw will give you nice quick 'click' shifts.

For the shifter, a good weighted handle is necessary. You should make the handle nice and its own pivot point/mounting bracket. Then connect the handle to the engine's shifter with rose bearings and threaded rod. It'd feel the best and allow you to beat on it the most.

Gear lever and clutch lever should both me under the steering wheel. Having the 3 pedals so close to each other is sketchy and not really safe. Also with both levers under steering wheel you gain more room to get in and out of the kart.

a tip for you guys when you are riding this kart only use the clutch when you starting from a dead stop or when you are down shifting and when you are up shifting just release the throttle pedal and shift it and get on the gas if it is the next it damages nothing and it's basically a quick shifter for free

Y'all need a custom 2seater frame for the Ducati make it a badAss buggy build!! { Is it a 900+cc ?? A 939 or something?} That's what I would luv to build personally but to each their own, opinions vary, that's cool too. Someday I'll get myself another tubebender(my garage broken into and all my tools stolen,.. Welder, hydraulic tubebender, saw saws, grinders,air compressor,air tools.) Got hit hard. I'll save up and eventually,hopefully I will get tools back similar to what I had. 25yrs worth gone, so it's gonna take me some time to build back what was taken. As with you fellas, I enjoy working with my hands, taking raw material and producing something exquisite.. That's why I like watching your channel, you are Not fake !!! Unlike some channels. Two cable shifter for up and down, pull back to shift up, push forward to shift down. similar to how a motorcycle twist throttle works to open and than close the throttle more quickly. Using the cables allows you to place shifter where you want or use paddles

Great build guys. Keep it up, eventually you will end up building a crossover of mini drag, mini bike, 4 wheeler, mini race kart and rooster.

Shift handle ideas: Brass knuckle(eBay) Display katana handle One really big bolt Pistol grip They also have a couple shift knobs at AutoZone and stuff, I wouldn't put them on my car but they'd prolly be cool on a go kart. They have skulls and stuff

Seemed like the clutch was rather touchy. It seemed like it was either all the way in or all the way out without a smooth transition in the middle. Cool cart thou, can't wait to see it opened up.
