He actually squandered his gifts. As much as he achieved he could of achieved more if he had been more serious. Because he actually declined young for a sprinter. When you think after the age of 23 Bolt declined. Now we have to wait for a similar physical specimen who does take it seriously. That's when Bolts records fall.
Damn, Michael Johnson must have had great speed endurance. He ran the 2nd half of his 200m at 9.2 flat, 0.07 faster than Bolt who has a longer stride length.
at the time Michael Johnson had the world record in the 200 and 400 so he easily had speed endurance and sprinting a 200 would be nothing for him but with bolt being a world record 100 and 200 sprinter ... im sure if bolt and Johnson were both in the same heat they would've pushed each other and both ran under 19sec in the 200
@@jasonhearn5818 In his youth Bolt was a 200m and 400m runner. He had to convince his coach that he was capable of competing in the 100m. His coach at the time thought him too tall to be a competitive 100m sprinter due to a slow sprint start.
Yeah, this is true, but, right to be said, Bolt has always ran the first 100m "forcing" his pace. I think he could've ran the second part of a 200m dash in less than 9.2" with a curve covered in 10" flat. 9.92" + 9.27" is quite inhuman.
@Makhulu Mapogo That's due to how much swimming has evolved in the last 10 years, not because Phelps wasn't stupendously good. If anything, it's because he was so good, that swimming evolved so much.
Yeh, only do it if the wins secured, and you’re 100% sure you are far from your PR, which is probably never a good idea in a 100, 200, probably even a 400. Reserve it for the tactical Distance races like the 1500, 800, 5k, etc
mYSport I mean, for qualifiers, small meets, when your just testing the waters sure. But when you’re at a world championship or some major meet in the finals and your coming out clearly in good time (possibly world record time) I don’t think there’s any reason to ease up (in a bad way as in intentionally slow down). And you say it’s for preservation, but that means only 1 person is ever preserving themselves, because the only person to ever ease up is in first.
Only Bolt can do it and break records..However, I still believe his 9.69 is the greatest because if he hadn't ease up 20m before finish the WR would have flash @ 9.52 or even lower. That race still blow my mind to this day.
Watching Michael Johnson's face as Bolt broke the record was really something. He also said that he would go as far as to say the person who broke 19.19 hasn't been born yet. Ten years on....I wonder if they've been born?
Absolutely they've been born. In either 8 or 12 years it will be broken. Wouldn't surprise me if from Nigeria. They still haven't heard of birth control over there, with the average woman still having 6 kids.
Charles Martel : Please be cognizant of the fact that no whites can beat no black person in a fair race and under fair circumstances!!! NONE!!! Furthermore no white man can beat Usain Bolt, this is totally impossible and I make no apology!! Look at all the Olympic Games over the years...black persons always win, whether running for Britain, France, Germany, USA or any other country!! Only time black athletes got recognition in any of these aforementioned white man’s country is in sports. Before the Olympic games or other athletic events they are all second class citizens, ostracized and belittled because of their skin colour. Then suddenly at world events they are referred to as Americans, French, Germans etc....after all these they go back to discrimination and racial prejudice just like after the Vietnam war when they returned to the USA!!
I'm 36 years of age. IF the 200m WR is to get broken, I really hope I'm alive to witness it. Because whoever breaks Bolt's ridiculous time has to be a freak of nature and something quite extraordinary.
@@JesusChristIsLord777. In fact, he has. And it has effected his training badly and from his interview and autobiography he hated training so much. He also felt his left stride is longer than his right stride. If he ran more symmetrically like any other normal athlete I believe he can ran faster. But how much faster? We will never know that.
I’m yet to see a sprinter with potential to challenge 19.19 .. yohan went pretty close in his prime, had he reacted quicker it would have been equalled or slightly beaten
I would love to see a 200 race with the following runners in their prime under the same modern training and shoes: Henry Carr, Tommy Smith, John Carlos, Michael Johnson and Usain Bolt.
@@sfacco When I read in a newspaper back then, I was surprised that a white sprinter could break WR which was dominated by black sprinters. Valery Borzov of USSR won gold in 200m as well as 100m at Munich Olympic 1972, but not that fast. I wanted Lewis to break that record; also Joe Deloach at Seoul Olympic 1988 who clocked a good time : 19.75 beating Lewis in the final. It's close to Mennea's WR. Therefore, Pietro Mennea deserves to be part of the history.
I wonder if Blake's .269 reaction time keeps him up at night. Elite sprinters regularly get .14 -.15 second reactions. His time would have been 19.14 if he wasn't asleep at the blocks.
Sachin Dennis is probably the biggest threat in the next 10 years or so out of everyone we know about. But idk if even he can break Bolt's records. Guess we'll just have to wait and see
TrollBean see I have seen several numbers given for this. All between 10.11-10.14.. ridiculously fast considering his 100m PR was 10.09 (definitely could’ve been a sub10 man had he raced the distance in 1996 IMHO)
Drew, that's not what NLS is referring to. They're mentioning how close the FIRST 100m of the 200m race is to his PB in a 100m race. Both of these races and metrics being referenced are from a "dead start". With that stated, I'd argue that the mechanics of running a curved 100m (beginning of the 200m) are different than a 100m open - straight. It is possible to angle your run to actually run technically less than a full 100m by either running closer to the center throughout, or swinging closer later but before the straight comes up. Yet, some runners, ahem, Wallace Spearmon, struggle with the curves to a degree that it actually gives them a disadvantage. My bet is that Michael Johnson (the guy with a 10.09 PB) is not at a disadvantage at the least, on curves seeing as though he's not a long and tall stride kind of guy. Nonetheless, it's impressive that he pulled that off in a longer race. He probably, in theory, should have a sub-10 on the books.
Yeah, you see what happened to Mike Johnson when he raced Donovan Bailey...lol. Bob Costas ignorantly compared Johnson's last 100 meters time of his 200 meter event to Bailey's 100 meter time in his 100 meter event. Since Johnson was at full speed compared to Bailey coming out of the blocks.
@emi9870 Not that we know of even though every other Jamaican in the top 10 has had PED issues. It's not as if Jamaica had good anti doping standards. But yeah as of now he is not guilty.
@emi9870 No one is trying to discredit him. Stop over reacting! It's just facts. Plenty of PED users have been caught years after their retirement. No one is going to get to where he got. This record will last for a very very long time.
@emi9870 BS, I never said he has used PEDs. I'm simply pointing out that it is possible that his marks are the result of PED given the history of the sport and his fellow sportsman. You are trying to hard to accuse me of something I never said. Get over it!
@emi9870 Again, you have a reading comprehension problem. Where have I said he was accused of PEDs or that there is proof that he has used them? I have not and you have no proof that I did - SO END OF DISCUSSION!
@emi9870 Anyone with a brain would not read into it as you have. There was no original ARGUMENT. Hello! You jump in by responding to my post - saying that Bolt does not use PEDs when I never mentioned Bolt. I simply responded with these stated facts - NOT THAT WE KNOW OF and that AS OF NOW HE IS NOT GUILTY. Why do you have a problem with facts. You act as if you KNOW he did not. That's not a fact! And you just can't deal with these facts so you have to twist the meaning of my words. We can never say we know for a fact that he did not and as I said particularly given others facts I mentioned like - MANY HAVE BEEN CAUGHT AFTER THEY RETIRED, ALL OTHER JAMAICANS ON THE TOP 10 HAVE PED VIOLATIONS, AND JAMAICA DID NOT HAVE GOOD TESTING FACILITIES. ALL FACTS! Stop crying and deal with these truths man. Just because I point out the possibility under such facts does not mean that his greatness is in doubt or that he is guilty of such possibility. Get your head out of his ass. He may be just a very unique individual or - or not. Who knows - you don't! Until otherwise he is the GOAT. But we don't have to deny these facts in order to say that.
nothing against flo jo, but her 100m might have been wind aided and the 400m record could easily have been on steroids. germany had controversy with most there athletes at the time and flo jo set record on a windy day with faulty wind guage. the most legitimate of those records was probably flo jo 200m
It's interesting that Johnson would've been closing Bolt down if the 1996 and 2008 records were ran together. You usually Bolt pulling away. What a race that would've been
in 1987 I ran 200mt in 17.65 in Olympic games (commodore 64). for those that will reply "there weren't 200mt but only 100mt in Olympic games" I reply that at that time I just reprogrammed the game to make this comment in 2020.
Thanks for this informative video. One question, though. If the current Men's 100m WR is 9.58, how is it that so many of these 200m splits are faster than 9.58? I guess it's just that momentum builds up?
with a running start, you typically run the 100 meters about 0.7 seconds faster than if you were starting from a stationary position out of the blocks.
So we gonna ignore that guy that got disqualified because of his swayed shoe that supposingly damages the track... That a sick reason for dismissing someone effort
interesting to see that there's no huge difference between a record set in 1896 and today's Bolt record. we gained barely 3 seconds. comparing to swimming : the 100 freestyle went from 58 seconds (Johnny weissmuller 1922) to cielo's record today 46 seconds. there's no much room for improving as human I guess in sprinting.
It is Yohan Blake who run the fastest 200m ever at 18.99s - which was the time of the actual run without the reaction time delay. Also, if he had had an average reaction time of 0.16s and not 0.26s, his time would've been 19.16s beating Bolt's record.
Reaction time is PART of Sprinting. Could say that Bolt would’ve run even faster than 19.19 as it came at the end of rounds of the 200m (after the 100m too) and was run into a -0.3 wind
@@TheWayToWin what are you talking about?..as long as there is a wind gauge that is calibrated, and an accredited official, and electronic timing, then it gets ratified.
@@timn4481 Basically that 200m track isn't a standard track. Because the turn is wider it's easier to run quickly as the more of "turn" you run on the slower it is compared so say a straight 200m. There's a reason Blake didn't ever get close to them time on any other tracks.
In the Olympics Andy Stanfield run a 20.81 which is worth at least a 20.6 Bobby Morrow ran 20.75 equal to 20.5 Livio berruti ran 20.62 equal to 20.4 Henry car run 20.36 equal to 20.1
I don’t think 9.58 and 19.19 will be broken in within the next 40 years. These records are the equivalent to Flo Jo’s marks in the 100/200m. Bolt & Flo Jo are just decades beyond the competition.
the issue with Mennea, is that he later admited he was taking HGH - Human Growth Hormone. Yes it was not made illegal until 1989, but it probably led to his early death from cancer.
I know many that would smash smash Usain Bolt's 100m and 200m records Speedy gonzalez Barry Allen (The Flash) The T- 1000 The Roadrunner The ultimate Warrior Sonic the hedgehog The Mask Dash (Incredibles) Neo (Matrix) Main character in Saints Row 4 Captain Falcon Cole MacGrath Sam Gideon And finally... Every quest giving NPC that tells you to meet them in another town/area. Ever! Anyone? Who or what else would destroy Bolt's record?
On that day he could not have ran 18.99 so easily. As going 2/100th of a second slower in the opening 100m would not save enough energy to improve 28/100ths of a second in the last 100m. However I believe that if the wind was stronger (+2.0 instead of -0.3) and he waisted less energy on the bend and finished at a speed which he is totally capable of reaching (8.8 or 8.9 for 100m) he could comfortably run under 19 seconds. His top speed of 27.79 mph or 44.72 km/h which would be the equivalent of 100m in 8.05s (the wind on that day was +0.9).
I'm sorry those white runners shouldn't be mentioned at all. If they weren't running against African Americans or Jamaicans they don't deserve to be mentioned at all
Had Michael Johnson not stumbled he may have had the first sub 10 second 100m start which would make him have 19.20 if he ran 0.12 secconds faster at the start
It was more of a stutter that actually barely cost him any time. His fastest ever 100m was 10.09, so the likelihood of him doing a sub 10 for the first 100 in a 200, even in a perfect race, is very small
Bolt was seen as too tall and heavy to be able to do what he did and Johnson's upright running style shouldn't have worked ...I didn't think Johnson's records would be bettered in my life time so to see bolt smash them was fucking amazing
Bernie Wefers 1896 21.2sec Usain Bolt 2009 19.2sec It took 113 years just to go through 2 second different. So another 113 years to come we will have 17.2sec 200m world record.
Psalms:5:4: For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. Psalms:5:5: The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Psalms:5:6: Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. Psalms:5:7: But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. Psalms:5:8: Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face
8:51 just need practice running curve. 1st 100 is 0.40 slower than normal 100. so you need beat bolt 100 record to beat his 200 only need run faster virve. flat will allways be 9.3ish. so only need practice to be faster than any human before run run
Why do runners ease up at the end, if they know they're winning? Because it's a race against the other men not the clock and why would you risk a possible career ending injury just to set a WR that will at some point be broken. Plus it's far more satisfying to beat other men than to know your time is faster than theirs.
