I’ve had three Acura RLs! I love them. I just wanted to upgrade over time! Honestly one of the best cars that is more older. Replacement parts aren’t that hard to get. It’s really reliable tbh and worth the price.
That's why I prefer trying to find the 2011-2012 models even though they're the rarest ones. They have all the bugs worked out and they upgraded the transmission from a 5 speed to a 6 speed auto so you're more likely to see 20+ mpg. I remember the 2009-2010 models got the worst mpg since they upped the engine size to 3.7 and still used that outdated 5 speed.
Great vid man! I have a 2010 RL with 46k miles on it and I absolutely love it. I paid a little over $12k for mine, but it is in mint condition. Absolute steal of a car in 2020.
Hey man. I love this video. Couldn’t agree more. Just got a 2009 with 84,000 miles. 😂😳. Seriously like a bank vault. This is the steal of the century right now👍
Ive been thinking about wheels for a while now. I have the same color 2011. Average 21mpg highway and like 17mpg in the city. they are super nice to own!
I have an 06 RL with over 230,000 miles and I still love it. I have owned it for 6 years and never had any major issues with it. Interior is so plush and luxurious. I plan on keeping it for 2 more years!!
I would recommend to reset the ECU/TCM on the car to bring all of the parameters back to default- and then relearn a new, more peppy driving style. The computers could be working against you simply because they’ve previously adapted to another driving style. I would also drop in a K&N air filter (same size/style as the original one, none of that short air intake stuff unless you want to hear the engine scream). The thing with the upgraded high flow air filters that I’ve noticed, is that you widen your MPG range.. In relation to factory numbers, you can save gas when lighter on the throttle, or use more gas when heavier on the throttle. And you do also notice a more audible VTEC engagement when you step on it. I had an 07 RL that I previously owned and put Redline Transmission Fluid in. Cant say it worked miracles on shift quality, since I did put it in from the start of ownership, but I didn’t really have any shifting issues. There is a tool the transmission manufacturers sell to adjust the shift solenoids. This way you can have quicker shifts per gear- but, I wouldn’t really mess around with that. It’s dialed in pretty good as-is. And I wouldn’t jeopardize the long term health of the transmission for a small change in shift speed. Overall, great car, SHAWD is amazing. Loved the 2007, now looking to get a 2010.
Love me some quality advice 👌 Wish I still had the car. Miss it. Good car. I heard the 2011-2012 are the better years for these RL's and some bugs and issues have been sorted out. Hope you find a good one!
@@themockalove Thank you! Yes definitely good cars. I own a 2011 MDX with the 3.7L V6 6-speed auto that the 11-12 RL’s have, good stuff I’d say. Maybe I’ll opt in for the 11-12 year, we’ll see what I find! All the best 👍
Be careful of the years 09-12 with the 3.7 V6 some of these motors had oil consumption problem along with TL’s and MDX. I had an 11 RL and it wouldn’t make through a whole oil interval without burning 3 qts of oil and yes it had terrible gas mileage. IMO stay with years 05-08 RL’s with the 3.5 V6 better gas mileage and reliability was bulletproof. I’m a RL enthusiast Love these cars. And to answer your question there great in all weather.
I am after a 2011 but with so few sold originally they are very tough to find. I have had 6 TLs and a TLX (leased). The RL at least has a spare tire and does not have the goofy push button transmission of my current TLX. I am turning back the current car and hope to replace with an RL.
This will be my next car! I've been wanting one for the last 10 years! Finally saved up enough money! Just a couple more months....as soon as I can find one!
Don’t buy one there are no available parts. The dealership won’t even put them on the lot they are unreliable and don’t last that’s why you never see any on the road!
@@skidcraft1998 I have one and I’ve had three one 2006, 2008, and 2010. It’s an amazing car. The parts are definitely not hard to get! I’ve just upgraded my car over time. The parts are cheap and great for any driver!
Did you know you dont have to hold the key turn . just turn the key and release right away it will start. from 2005-2005 kb1 and 2009-2012 kb2. alot hidden thing on that car alot people dont know about. its just like a push start but it not push start its key turn type.
Better off to buy an 05-08 Acura Rl, more appealing exterior and the same interior as the 2013, 2009 + was the ugly face lift, and just over 300 units between 09-13 were sold in Canada my guy 🤷🏻♂️ Good video tho 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the info! I definitely prefer the styling of the 2009+ models, but the interior is indeed pretty much the same. Appreciate the feedback also :)
Styling is subjective. Also, this body style got updated awd + a bigger, more powerful engine. The interior is the same however this one got cooled front seats and heated rear seats. On paper this newer RL is the right choice.
It’s a great car! But honestly Honda dropped the ball on certain materials, the armrest will break very badly same with the door panels, overall it’s a great car with nice features, for the right price and condition I’d definitely pick one up.
@@themockalove ugh it’s so bad, started happening to my 4G TL, so I started to not use it lol You can always replace it with better leather but, it’s hard to find one without damage 😏
I own 2 Acura RL's an 2007 & a 2011. In your 2010 you have paddle shifters that are always ready so if you want a much quicker response then just grab the gear. You are relying on the transmission to react in it's laziest mode. Put it in Sport and it's a big difference. You're new to the car so you may not have learn these things yet. Also you can command heat/AC, F/R defrost, driver/passenger temperature/fan speed, radio/aux/XM, phone calls, restaurants & navigation all with your voice.
Can you actually do all those things with your voice? The only thing I had to do with my voice was the bluetooth set up and that was more painful than getting my teeth worked on 😂
@@themockalove yes you can do all of that. In my 2007 there is a sync button however in my 2011 you voice command it. Say "climate control seventy two degrees" or desired temperature. The key to using it is to sound like the car. It was developed in Japan so it has a hard time with accents or slang. Say everything as the car would say it
Acura produced over 2K in 2010, just over 1K in 2011 and a little over 300 in 2012 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_RL (youtuber the CAR WIZARD tried to find a new 3.7 engine to put in a customer's car and they are no longer available and not produced )
Indeed, thank you for the info! I believe only a fraction of those came to canada. I saw the Wizard's video. Practically impossible to find a new engine, unless sourced for a salvaged vehicle.
@@themockalove The RL that the Car Wizard was working on was in pristine condition with 40K miles but it looked like it just drove off the lot, and didn't want a salvage engine.....they ended up pulling the engine and having it rebuilt. BTW....a friend of mine has a 2010 RL and loves it. (BTW make sure you change the timing belt per scheduled maintenance.)
They are very cool cars indeed. I enjoyed having mine. It gave me electrical problems eventually but I was told by an acura specialist that he had never seen those issues before. So i don't believe they are common on these cars
I wouldn't worry too much in your case, since they aren't too common. But I had seemingly radar-related issues. 3 messages would show up always at the same and always randomly (not triggered by anything specific): "Check CMBS, Check ACC and Check Airbags". The messages would go away after a restart and come back either sooner or later. They didn't affect the driving experience though. It was just annoying.
After watching the Car Wizard's video, I bought one with the 3.5 L engine. I'm in Australia and bought a 2006 Honda Legend which is same as Acura RL with 90 000 kms (56 000 Miles. Very nice to drive and the technology waaay ahead of its time in areas. My one gripe is the long gearing. Shorter gearing would have livened it up.
I had an 05 and it was a complete nightmare.... I practically gave it away for 2500. I was looking at getting an 09 but your comment made me remember the transmission and sensor terrors.
i remember when someone in the comments from a different youtube vid about Acura said that “Acura cars used to be all about futuristic tech & car features that made it ahead of its time and now they kinda lost their touch.” (i can’t remember which video where someone said that) but if it’s true when was the last year Acura was all about futuristic & making things ahead of its time generation w/ any sedan?
@@themockalove say that as a first timer getting an Acura, which one should i get, the TL, RL, or the TSX overall? which generation of the car and why?
I can't tell you such exactly specifics from personal knowledge or experience, but you can't go wrong with a TL or TSX for a daily. They got those card very right
Ok dealer posted online wrong rl posted his 2006 3.5 price on his 3.7 2009 140k 6700 I ran there ! Young 22 kid who dosent kno cars sold it while boss as at auction ! Plus It was a garaged Illinois car no rust what steal compared to these rusted abuse ones out here in Boston all Acura maintained with great car fax
@@themockalove Ez 9k closest example 90 miles north 09 $8k 230kmi or 30miles 2011 $14k 78kmile such a hard car to even find this kid said 300 just in n.america in2012
They're very rare cars. Not popular at all. But that's what makes them unique. Even though if something goes wrong with the electronics, a lot of mechanics and dealers don't know how to work on these computers, I heard.
It's an amazing car, I'm enjoying it way more than I thought. Was a bit nervous at first, but I'm very glad I bought. Love the power and sound of the engine
Cool car the only problem is the 3.7 v6 they consume oil like crazy and if you accidentally grenade it from not checking your oil good luck getting a new replacement engine.
Everything you're saying about the 2010 Acura RL is false I own one exactly like the one you are showing and no mind is not take that much gas and it's great in every way possible I've never had a problem with it and it has 81,000 mi on it and it's not worth not $10,000 I've had it checked out and by the way they started that shape in 2009
The rebuild would probably be quite extensive mainly due to lack of available parts for these and lack of replacement engines. That's the curse of any niche car
If your car is going through a gas tank as fast as you say then there is something wrong with your vehicle, I drive the 2005 RL, only difference between the one you drive and mine is the body. Interior is the same, fuel economy is great on my car should be no different in yours.
That could be possible, as I got it 10 years used. But the official combined fuel consumption is around 13L per 100km, so my experience seems to be in tune with the official numbers. The 20-inch wheels worsen the fuel consumption a bit as well, I'm sure.
The engine has a larger displacement which means more fuel went you heavier with the foot. My 2011 drinks a little bit more than my 2007, yet the economy are higher. The 2011 is a more responsive car. Power comes in sooner. But if both are driven like a grandma it is capable of those numbers.
I was considering them too. Although V8 would be even worse fuel consumption. But because they were still a new brand and the cars weren't proven just yet, I shied away from them for reliability sake and a peace of mind. But I'm sure they're a great bargain as well.
@@themockalove Well...the Hyundai genesis can utilize 87 octane. So the 2-3 MPG you lose would be more than made up with the savings of buying 91 octane fuel They are very reliable cars. There are few on youtube that have over 100K miles and still going strong
@@themockalove Better ride, better reliability, MUCH quieter just an all around better car, unless you are looking for handling, than the Acura is the ride for you.
I would disagree on the quietness. I test drove a few GS350's and the RL is much quieter and a bite comfortable to ride. And a clean GS example is a bit more $.
Excerpt from the press kit: "The steering wheel, genuine wood dashboard trim (included with the CMBS™ package) and metal-look accents are fitted to the RL along with a transmission shift knob with simulated wood trim."
@@themockalove CMBS package? Right. See description your words "metal look....simulated wood trim..". I've had an '05, '08 and currently an '11. I've taken this car completely apart and reassembled. There's no wood in the dash, shift knob or wheel. Your right, it's a great value for less than $10K. While the interior is unchanged across all those years, the quality "feel" of later years never matched the level of superiority of the '05. For what it's worth.
Don't buy this generation Acura RL! They have the 3.7 liter with well known oil consumption issues leading to catastrophic engine failure -- Google it! This guy is absolutely clueless!!!
Honestly, first time I'm hearing it. Every mechanic I've brought this car too said very good things about their mechanical reliability. But I'll look into it.
