2009-2012 are all rare. Same body, slightly different front grille. A total of 5,555 were sold in the US over the entire 4 years! 2009: 2,043 units sold. 2010: 2,037 sold, 2011:1,096 Sold, and 2012: 379 units sold…. 2009 and 2010 are the best model years as they didn’t suffer from oil consumption issues that plagued the 2011 and 2012 model years.
Love the fact that due to the 3rd gen TL's age being Acuras high point, they of course overbuilt their next gen RL/TLs. Been driving my 09 TL for about 7 months now and I constantly beat on it, 190,000 plus miles, and hasnt giving me any mechanical problems. They certainly do seem overbuilt and the styling still stands out to this day. They'll definitely age fine as time goes on, especially since the days of NA V6 Sedans are getting close to an end.
I currently still drive the previous generation; 2005 which has most of the features you’re talking about. I’ve got 136k. I’m the second owner and I’ve been driving it since 2010👍
Beautiful car, it had a lot of competition when it was on sale an Acura did not marked it it very well . unfortunately I would have to go with the older 3.5 because it is more reliable as the 3.7 in the updated one has more common engine issues and it has a tendency to burn oil. And parts for the 3.7 are much more scarce oh, I'm not saying the Acura RL with the 3.7 can't make it to high miles tho....
@@jonathana5434 they may be related, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have their own unique issues, and also they have their own unique parts. Let’s say you need an engine for the 3.7 you can’t just put a 3.5 in there lol.
@@jonathana5434 LMAO that doesn’t mean you can just straight up put a 3.5 engine in a 3.7 TL or vice versa. You could put an LS swap in any car but it’s not like they are interchangeable…. I take it you’re not a mechanic, nor a Honda, Acura, certified mechanic, such as myself🤷🏻♂️
I wonder what Acuras would have been like if they actually produced that V8 they planned, and what displacement the V8 would have been, especially since they wanted to fit it transversely in the RL. I could imagine the MDX would have gotten that engine to compete with the Volvo XC90 which had a Yamaha designed V8 at the time.
Acura did product a 3.5L V6 Sport Hybrid powertrain with 377hp/341tq V8 power, sh-awd handling, and you can see up to 4 cylinder economy. Huge expense and not a lot of application for a 4.0L V-8 for Honda/Acura compared to the 3.5L V-6.
You don't own one so you can't appreciate it. Owners of the Honda Legend KB1 argue these are quite possibly one of the best sedans in the world at the time. It is built in Japan at the Saitama Plant, it is much more fun to drive than the Lexus GS 350, it is just as reliable as the Lexus LS 430, and the it is unique on the road as you don't see these very often. The later model RLX is a downgrade. But the KB1 is truly a legend.
The RLX did get the V-8 power with I4 mpgs with the Sport Hybrid powertrain with 377hp/341tq, 7DCT, true sh-awd tq vectoring, regen braking, . The current 17-23 NSX borrowed the RLX Sport Hybrid system. The RLX tech version has a 3.5L DI engine with 310hp/270tq with either a 6AT or 10AT for the 18-20 RLX tech. The 14-20 RLX is an improvement over previous RL models; except, in people's minds.
The J37 in that car didn’t have DOHC VTEC. No J series had it because of the 60 degree bank angle. The only Honda V6 to have DOHC was the C30/32 engines in the NSX. That engine had a 90 degree bank angle and could accommodate DOHC.
I have a 10 rl got it with 50k on it now it's about to break 83k. I don't have the 6 speed auto, kinda wish I did, love the paddle shifters and that awd drive is awesome. But it is hard to find aftermarket parts for it. Tons for the models years before. If anyone who's a great site with parts hit me up with a link
3.5 in the 2005-2008 were bulletproof. All cars with the 3.7 suffered from early engine failures. There are no used engines and no one wants to rebuild them
Very similar to my 05 RL. The reason it didn’t sell is because Honda made a V6 Accord and the Acura TL got larger and was a very fast car with plenty of room. This year group RL was Grandpas car like the Buick LaCross and Grandpa couldn’t afford the RL.
2007 here, “only” 140k miles. Reliable if well-maintained, and I still drive it pretty hard. Leather hasn’t aged well, but that’s the only major complaint!!
Holy crap man. Shave, put on a shirt and present yourself. The RL is a well put together machine.....you are too. Just put some effort into yourself. Thanks for the video. I do enjoy your content.
I will be honest with you though, I have seen this car for the first time, that too from your channel, and it looks really beautiful, great video, I still do not understand how your channel only has 50K subs, because for this type of quality content, it must be over a mil, but I know you will get there! Cheers
I drive this car, although my 2011 RL is black. I really enjoy my car, and I find the SH-AWD to be phenomenal when driving in snow and on ice. My only complaints are regarding the over-sized brake calipers (which make getting a second set of wheels for separate winter and summer setups) and the navigation display is disappointing (mostly in the fact that even when updated it looks no better). Overall, I love my car.
we had an 03 RL go into the scrapyard i work at, and i learned about this body style reading up on that. i asked my father who was an acura tech of 30 years about this because i havent even seen this car before and he told me "Ive maybe worked on a 2012 RL twice in my life, thats why youve never seen one before" 😂
Always loved this car and always wanted one. It looks great! Unfortunately I could never afford one. 2009-2010 mag wheels look best in my humble opinion.
Awesome car If I didn't just get a 11 MDX last year I would definitely consider one of these. Having a big dog, the bigger MDX was a no brained for me. I love the 3.7! Have you done your timing belt? I just got mine out if the shop, 1,900... Cheers
U said the vtec opens for the exhuats as well as the intake so does that make the vtec duel over head cam? Or is it still listed as single over head cam?
Love this car but I never understood why companies do that belt of color on the doors and dash. If it extended to parts of the seats or headliner, maybe. But just the doors and dash are weird.
