My mechanic tried to scam $700 for this job. I'll do it myself for $70.

That's a lot of my reasoning as well. I may have to make a compromise and do some voice overs, I think that would work well.

Haha, I forgot I typed this!! I ended up doing this job on my escape and yes, I used brake cleaner and compressed air to clean around the engine where I was about to open and work.

Doing this today, my mechanic said it's brake cleaner

You ever find out what the problem was? Was it already a major problem and this was a waste of money to do? Asking since mine is doing the same

@@kickfliphctp long story. Do you have a scan tool? My cylinder number 1 is very weak on the power stroke so it runs rough. I found this by looking at the "Power Contribution" graph on my scan tool. I have a picture of that graph but I don't know how to attach that to this conversation. What year, make and model are you working on??

@@dalebabbitt6185 2010 Ford escape 2.5.. I do have a scan tool.. shows cylinder 1 as well.. I haven't done this process yet but I need to do it.. I just hope mine is cleared up and if not I'm wondering if cylinder 1 is shot? Should I be looking into something newer soon

@@kickfliphctp does your scan tool show any misfire data for any of the 4 cylinders? Is there any way we can talk? It would make communication sooo much easier?

I've used it in the past, but often find it to be unnecessary. My experience is that if a plug was tightened properly in the first place they generally come out without issue. An argument could be made for certain models that are inherently prone to problems regarding plug removal, as well as vehicle up North. Being down south, I have the luxury of not dealing with much rust, so I often just install the plugs similarly to how they were done at the factory. I think this is another one of those things that comes down to personal preference, and don't personally see a problem with using it if you wish. Maybe someone else has a differing opinion.

many of the plug bodies have a special coating and are meant to be installed "dry", it's always best check with the plug manufacture. the cheapest plugs are likely not coated, while the direct OEM/ OEM equivalents are and ready to go. throttle bottle Very good info. Thanks. Both of ya. Also it just happens that NGK is what my car requires. I tried Bosch and they fell apart in the cylinders before I discovered that nobody uses them in a B18 Acura.

i think talking as you do the repair like when you do the diagnostics which i really enjoy, it makes it a lot easier to understand

Even if you don't talk much, record with the lapel mic, as I think it does a better job of blocking out the rest of the shop.
