Thank you for your video and clear instructions . I have a 2011 Honda Pilot , had oil leak from spool valve that leaked into alternator . Replaced alternator and decided to do complete timing belt (DAYCO PD1658) . Changed serpentine belt and new idler pully after installing alternator . I wanted to use OEM but big price difference. I only changed the two gaskets on the spool valve assembly (VVT Solenoid) did not torque since I found none, (10mm bolts) tightened by hand hoping for best around 10 ft. lbs . No leaks . I did not due oil change since I already did it with Timing belt . Then my Pilot started to run rough and engine light with VTM-4 and VSA ! I had code P-3497 so I installed oil pressure switch. Truck ran fine for a day then back to running rough with same codes ! now I'm going to install Dorman 918-056 and Dorman states to change oil and filter after installing . What a spool of a week !!!! A lot of reading for this question , What's the Torque specs on the 3 bolts ??? Once things get resolved , installing S-VCM Controller !!!! Question for all your guest ? S-VCM or VCMTuner II Advanced-Disabler ????? GQ Auto , Torque specs Please as soon as you can , Thank you
Hello. The torque spect is 8.7 lb-ft. Let me know if you have any other questions. Keep me posted. Thank you for commenting. Please consider subscribing to the channel. God bless.
@@gqautodiagnostics Your description is spot on. I'm going to replace mine tomorrow. I received the base as well as the VVT solenoid. From what I've seen the base is a whole different job. And it's a difficult job from what I've heard.
@@b4saints Good video! Per Honda TSB 20-023 - You take the OEM part (# 15810-R70-A04) apart by removing three outside bolts but not center bolt) so you don't install the new base but the TSB instructs to use the new top part, gasket, metal plate and bolts.
Many people recommend to save the original mesh screen and use it instead of the aftermarket one. FYI Honda does not sell these gaskets, even thought you may find "Honda" stickers on the bags.
honda doesnt sell gasket ,they want you to replace wholething . the gaskets Amazon sells it ..gives out code and also leaks again.. i have seen lots of youtube videos .
Thanks for the video. I will tackle in the next couple of weeks. Can't tell if I should go with entire kit (Dorman 918-056) and/or buy gaskets 15815-R70-A01 and 15845-R70-A01 and use the original solenoid.
Chandler wanted to ask how did that gasket you got from eBay hold up ? Was there still leaks? Im asking because I plan on buying it too, because thats the only place I found that sold the part that was OEM part
Thank you for the video. I plan to replace mine on my wife's 2011 Pilot. It is leaking oil and leaked on the alternator. Should I clean the alternator somehow? It's a small leak but leaving drips on the floor. Thank you!
Hello, thank you for posting your question. After you replace the part take you car to the car wash and remove the oil from the alternator to prevent the the oil damage it. Keep me posted. Have a great day and God bless you 🙏
Good morning. That is an excellent question. If the solenoid stop working it will trigger a check engine light. What you will experience is that the car would not go into the ECO mode. Let me know if you have any other questions and have a great day. God bless you.
Hello. Thank you for posting your question. I got the part from O'Reilly. Yes, car runs good no problem at all. Keep me posted. Have a great day and God bless you 🙏
I just replaced the gasket on my Honda Pilot and oil is still leaking out. Could it be they type of material the gasket is made out of? Or possible over torque?
Hello, thank you for posting your question. It is possible that the gasket is not good. However, make sure that the old gasket was removed. I have seen that in occasions a piece of the old gasket was not removed completely. I hope this helps. Keep me posted.
Did u figured it out iam having the same problem on my 2011 Honda Pilot I changed the gasket and did a oil change and put a new oil pressure switch put still get the code p3497 so I was wondering if I should change the dorman peace
@@kevinfergerson7169 what does this mean, I'm getting the Dorman and if I run into an issue I would like to have a sense of direction of where to go, What happened to coil pack #4
@@ptj666 i bought an entirely new solenoid, i just replaced the sensor because it was a lot easier and i didn't want to work more than I had to, the sensor replacement fixed it, cost me like 20 dollars

What would be the symptoms if this was wrong on a vehicle? I have A 2010 honda accord v6 3.5 that gave me a p3497 code I switched the oil pressure switches then the issue went away for about two days then got a p0304 so I put fresh spark plugs and still nothing the code does not show while starting up it pops up about 20 miles into a drive
Many times the gasket replacement results in error codes. Is it just the wrong torque, or is it the replacement gaskets? What brand of gasket do you use?
Hello. Thank you for your comment. Many times after a gasket replacement some people experienced a code error this can be due to a over torque the solenoid. The gasket that I used was Dorman brand. keep me posted and please consider subscribing to the channel. God Bless.
@@CrystalNoelle1 You are welcome! I am happy to help. It is always a good practice do do regularly oi changes. However, if you recently had it replaced, then no worry about it. But, if your car is due for an oil change make sure to use the correct oil. The correct oil is critical for this car to work correctly. Please keep me posted. Have a great weekend.
The solenoid replacement went well, but now the car has a “check emissions system” light on. I replaced the air filter and ensured all the sensor clips on the solenoid were tight. Any ideas? Thank you so much.
@@CrystalNoelle1 Hello, I am glad that the solenoid replacement went well. For the message "check emissions system" I will recommend take the vehicle to you nearest auto parts store and get the codes read. After that just reach out to me and give me the code number to better assist you. Thank you for keeping me posted.
Hello. For this repair you do not need to disconnect the battery. You can disconnect it if it makes you feel better. Thank you for commenting and please consider subscribing to the channel. God bless 🙏
