Fun fact: He won the NL Cy Young this same year. Halladay credited Carlos Ruiz as the catalyst of his perfect game and this postseason no-hitter. "He was the best catcher I've ever thrown to and, in my opinion, the best catcher in baseball in the years I was with him," he later said. During Spring training the following year, Ruiz dressed but was out for one of the games. He left the dugout at one point and found a brown box sitting on a chair in front of his locker. It said "To: Chooch, From: Roy". When he opened the box he found an exact replica of Halladay's Cy Young award.

I was watching this in my Center City office in a suit. I just wanted to go home relax have a beer to watch the rest of the game. However, I was not going to leave until the Reds got a hit. Great memories....

I was working night crew, repairing heavy equipment. We had ESPN radio on. We got more & more excited as the game went on, & by the last out, we were jumping around like kids. Had to stay late to finish up off the clock, but we didn't care. Great memories

Halladay always gave Ruiz full credit. It wasn't an act, he was a humble man. I hope his family takes solace in knowing how many people he inspired on the field, & even the struggle against his demons will help people suffering with addiction & depression. God bless

Imagine the pressure of being in that moment maybe being about to be remembered as the guy that botched a playoff no hitter on his pitcher down to the last out and strike. And what a heartbreaker that would have been

Am I one of the very few, who enjoys Pitching masterclass games like this more than offensive explosions. Got more chills from watching this knowing full well how it ends, than I did from some of the slugfests I watched live from last season

We’re in that short phase of athletes that the NBA has started the last couple seasons, where legends are getting up in age and/or retiring, and young guys are beginning to make a name for themselves. Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Tim Lincecum, Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, C.C. Sabathia, Max Scherzer. They’re *ALL* in the Top 15-20 Pitchers of All-Time. Then you’ve got guys who may not be the best on the hill, but they’ve revolutionized the position: like Zack Greinke, Madison Bumgarner, Chris Sale, Steven Strasburg, Gerrit Cole, David Price, Yu Darvish. We may never have a decade or so, containing so much talent on the mound ever again. We’re honestly living in a phenomenal time to watch pitchers, it’s almost a shame that they’ve had to mess with the balls to keep the game entertaining for those who don’t like pitchers duels. I get *why* they do it, it’s just a shame tho.

I don't think Lincecum belongs with the guys in your upper tier, yeah he won 2 CY awards, but he didn't have the longevity of the rest of that group. Same for Lee now that I'm thinking about it.
@davidmayberry3190
@davidmayberry3190 4 года назад
@@gideonvictor I think Lincecum was more dominant at his peak, but he didn't have the sustained success that Bumgarner had, and obviously Bumgarner's post season heroics are second to none.

can MLB stop putting the results in the title? "2010 NLDS Game 1 - Phillies vs. Reds (Roy Halladay's Postseason no-hitter)" the part in brackets belongs in the description. The for people who don't remember the result its almost like watching live sport.

I don't know how I've never noticed before but on the final out I'm almost certain that the ball hit the bat in fair territory so Phillips should have been out regardless. On the 3rd bounce it looks like it hits the knob of the bat, so he should have been out,l. And even if there was no contact it still should have been interference because the bat was tossed into fair territory and it clearly made the fielders job harder. In the end it didn't matter, but he should have been called out immediately and I believe Phillips did it intentionally because throwing the bat out in front of the plate like that just isn't a natural move for a batter.

I have no idea how I never noticed it before but this was actually a SECOND PERFECT GAME for Roy Halladay that year. He only allowed one walk on a 3-2 count and the second pitch of that sequence at 1:08:05 was a missed call by the umpire. The ball crosses over home plate and the top part of it enters the strike zone as shown on the 'Pitch Trax'. That 2010 season from Halladay was legendary.
