We were on the road to Quilpie, and it looked like we had finally got away from the weather that had dogged us for the past week, thus making the roads "interesting". But there was one more storm to come, and we were running straight into it.

Is rain like that, normal for that part of Australia, at that time of year? Pretty country to watch you folks drive though. Since I will never get there :) So stay safe and keep posting.

G'day James. Seasons Greetings. Northern Australia has two seasons: the dry season (April to October) and the wet tropical summer (November to March). 2010-11 was a particularly wet season, and major flooding occurred down around South East Queensland in early 2011. Our trip was in September, and around the usual change of season. Lake Eyre had water in it for the first time in years, and so we saw it all when the desert country was alive. In subsequent trips to Qld, the country has been dry by comparison. We copped the rain going south, and then that storm heading back east. This year, Queensland has been hit by the first cyclone of the season, and there has been major flooding that is the worst in most peoples memory. Cheers, Laurie
