Had a chirping noise that I couldn't figure out what was making the noise. Thinking it was the belt so I adjusted it several times. This evening I jacked it up and run it in gear and found it was the rest sprocket area. I checked the parts list for the rear wheel and found there is a needle bearing in the hub of the rear pulley. Previous owner put on new tires and I'll bet he didn't grease the axle or that bearing. See the bearing isn't a sealed bearings so it probably doesn't carry any weight and just runs on the axle. Wish I didn't have to pull the wheel to fix it.
Good video Jeff, retail for 5 quarts of 2w50 and an Amsoil filter would run you read read $105. If I set you up with a preferred customer program it would only cost you about $80. I know it will cost a little bit more than that Valvoline that you’re using but the comparison and quality isn’t even close.
I'm using 20w-50 Valvoline , it's fine I just change it a little sooner to be on the safe side even though probably don't have to. I'm using offroad kind spose to be a little tougher , it was no difference in price anyway.
I noticed when you rotated the tire the belt started being almost against the outside edge of the pulley. After you rotated the tire a couple of times it creeped to the inside of the pulley. Just wondering why it would do that?
@@thebeardedguyjefflawless5887 my manual says 110 but another video the guy said not to torque it 110 because it can cause damage He said not to go over 90 lbs. I know on the belt tension they say to set it at 7 to 10 mm free place so it doesn't. Take out your front pulley shaft bearing. I think I'm going to take the muffler off tomorrow and loosen that nut some.
@@rodkramer8879 I've had this one for almost 4 years and put 4 tires on and a drive belt and never any problems. I check the bearings when I change the tires.
I'm from UK looking at this or the 650 next favoring this over the 650 for the FI over carb and higher speed highway speed in UK is 70 mph how easy is it to adjust and maintain the belt compared to a chain and how often do you need to ajust
It's an easy adjustment.........I check the tension at every oil change and adjust maybe every 10,000 miles. The 950 is a great bike......you won't be disappointed
I run 42psi in the tire and no washy feeling. It gets amazing traction in wet and dry conditions.......thanks for watching. Want to know anything else about it, just message. Jeff.....
@@rodkramer8879 got ya.......with just the motorcycles weight.......maybe quarter to half inch......with riders maybe three quarters of an inch........like I said this is at 42psi.........
The motorcycle is not sitting on its wheels. The distance from the drive sprocket to the wheel sprocket is the shortest it can ever be. Any weight will tighten the belt. (And ruin the needle bearing in the cushion hub!) A Goodyear viva 3 car tire ????
@@alhawkins7576 yes Goodyear Aviva 3.........and I had a jack stand at the point where they secure the motorcycle to it crate from the factory. That puts the weight where it needs to be when adjusting the belt. Be doing it for about 5 years and 40,000 miles......still on factory bearings and drive hub cushions........thank you for watching bud
@UCYc0HhGSzv1g6T-dsO5qwVg as far as alignment there are marks on each adjuster at the axle, just make sure the axle is at the same line on each side.....
belts way too tight, these 950's are notorious for eating output shaft sprockets, you want that belt on the slack side to prevent this. ALso, personally I'd only use yamalube 10W40, sure brand oils are sometimes expensive and made by mainstream producers, but it's what the engine was designed to use.
