Today we change the clutch and a few other components on my 2012 Chevy Cruze. The original one wasn’t totally blown, but was showing signs of wear. This car still had the original factory clutch in with 210,000kms on the car at time of replacement

I know this is an older video but a small hand vacuum pump bleeder would make that job easier.

I've bled this clutch twice: once with a clutch replacement, once when I changed the hydraulic line from the firewall down to the slave cylinder. It helps to understand the theory and follow the factory instructions. You can get hydraulic fluid down to the bleed screw with gravity, vacuum, or a pressure bleeder. I probably used a Motive power bleeder, the cap is the European thread, same as BMW and probably Mercedes, so don't buy the Chevy/GM one. This is actually a German car with Bosch parts. Anyway, once fluid is down to the bleed screw, you still have air in the slave cylinder. To get it out, you compress the air by pushing the clutch pedal, then open the bleed screw and the air rushes out. After a couple cycles, instead of compressing just air, you flex the pressure plate. When you open the bleed screw, the pressure plate pushes more air out. I think you're supposed to repeat five times to get the slave cylinder full of fluid. I had a friend help me the second time and it took just a couple minutes. If you had trouble getting the air out, I suspect you didn't follow the two stages, where in the first stage you fill the hydraulic line and the second stage you use spring pressure to displace air and work fluid past the bleed screw into the slave cylinder.

You only have a problem bleeding if you don't pre load the concentric slave with fluid before fitting. Fill a small plastic bowl with fluid, immerse the openings of the slave cylinder and compress it a number of times until it's full of fluid and all the air bubbles have stopped coming out, then cap it and fit it. No problems with bleeding.

If you don't do this, this is why you have a problem bleeding - 1:14:00 - 1:15:00 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-otgWniXjkXs.html

Do you have any video(s) of the clutch replacement on its own? I'm gonna try replace mine, but will only do clutch, from the bottom. thank you!

How long did the entire job take you? The engine removal feels more intimidating, but I like how it doesn't require any dangerous heavy lifting. Last time, we did it on a lift (hoist?) and the subframe took three guys to lower or raise and it was still a struggle. Going from the top just seems a little tedious with all the stuff that needs to be disconnected, but no crazy steps. Also, how does the AC compressor stay where it is? Do you unbolt it from the engine and tie it up somehow? Or did you disconnect the refrigerant lines and not mention having to recharge the AC? I'm considering using your clutch replacement method if I end up doing this myself instead of with my mechanic.

I rewatched, see how you left the AC compressor unhooked from the engine and maybe held by the refrigerant lines.

for some reason theres no pilot bearing for a cruze thats why the alignment tool doesn't work, i used a impact socket that fit snug and lined it up with that

Gm has what they call a pilot bearing for these. I know because I got one from a dealer. And it’s plastic

Did you have any issues with the clutch slave cylinder leaking since yoy didn't replace it after all that work you did?

No it’s been great for about 13,000kms now

You are brave. 1st for owning that car to start with. 2nd for replacement of the clutch w/out touching hydraulic parts (asking to do it again soon). 3. Pulling the engine on jack stands at home. 4. Not touching the fly wheel whatsoever. Not a bad video, but I didn't get what I wanted from it. Your probably snowed in from the current storm. Stay warm!

Lol, "I don't have a hoist, so I'll take the engine out." In America, a hoist is an engine crane, a lift is the contraption used to lift the entire car.

reading the remarks = seems i always see someone that thinks everything has to be ONE way = it's a sign you have never lived different places let alone different countries = have it your way - but what we call a lift in germany is a lift to get you to swim dive tower in a public swimming pools, volley ball, table tennis and the women can be toples if desired = lift this homeboy . open up or be left behind ......spend time checking me spelling or grammer = can you speak any other languages ? with time = things "mix" but i love my Philippine wife !!!

throw out bearing?
@paulfelkner6749
@paulfelkner6749 Год назад
I'm sure they replaced that also because it normally comes with the kit. My 99 S-10 clutch failed because of the bearing at 165K, my Chevy Cruze, it was my driving.

You took the engine out to change the clutch ? What are you, a masochist ?
@bradenrein

Easier to pull the engine out the top than struggle pulling subframe and transmission out the bottom without a hoist
@kaferere
@kaferere 6 месяцев назад
NO way !! I've been doing this for 40 years, you don't need to pull the subframe on most cars, (this one included), the gearbox will either drop through clear to the floor or just move over to the right and sit on the leg of the subframe to expose all the parts. At the very worst, you may need to slacken 2 subframe bolts on the port side of the car so the gearbox can duck under the frame rail, but usually this isn't necessary. I've never in my life seen anyone take an engine out to swap a clutch and flywheel. I'm 67 and if I couldn't have a new clutch in that car using 4 axle stands, a tow rope and a single floor jack in 4 or 5 hours, safely and correctly, I'd cash my chips in. Sorry, what you show here is the most difficult and pointless time consuming way of changing a clutch that requires a workshop and engine hoist !! The car you're working on is either a rebadged Daewoo Lancetti, or Vauxhall Astra, (rebadged Holden is also a possibility) which are really easy cars to work on which you've made look really difficult by taking most of the car apart for some reason ! This is really not a good way to do this job unless you just like buying expensive needless equipment and taking your car apart for a couple of days. Also, you seem to be confused between "engaging" and "disengaging" the clutch. When you push the pedal to the floor, the clutch DISENGAGES, not "engages". A car that won't go into gear with the engine running means the clutch won't DISENGAGE either partially or fully meaning the input shaft to the gearbox is still rotating. If this car has a concentric slave cylinder and you didn't pre load it with fluid, it would explain why you had such difficulty bleeding the clutch like a lot of other people who don't do it. If you're bleeding a clutch 5 or 10 times, you've missed something. The following link is to how the job is done, although you can use a floor jack to move the gearbox to the right if you're not as strong as the guy in this link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b2dlfz2eiys.html @@bradenrein

Ok i have a rather annoying problem nobody seems to figure out: 2012 Chevy Cruze just had dual-mass flywheel fail on me so i also replaced the clutch and pressure plate, the instant i got in the car after i noticed it's quite louder than it used to be, it's like i can hear the engine inside the car now, before it was reasonably quiet, i can't pinpoint exactly where the sound is coming from but it seems to be from inside the dashboard, probably somewhere near the firewall. I went through and checked for any visibly missing cover, even got under the car, took it back to the repair shop, they also double-checked that they put everything back... clearly they missed something and won't admit it. Now i'm stuck with a car that's annoyingly loud to drive, i'm trying to figure out what access hole cover they might have forgotten to put back on, i've been driving myself nuts trying to find the source of my troubles...
