Well Button's race was incredible; but Webber, Schumacher, Massa and Kobyashi also had thoroughly engaging races. Schumacher's double overtake in particular was a thing of beauty. That's why this race is such a classic; so many drivers shined with so much great racing through the whole field.
@@andimason3370 Yeah, but people just say, oh, this race was only interesting because Button had such a crazy race, yes that was what made it stand out, but even if he didn't take part, it would have been good.
Kobayashi was not underrated in an F1 car. He podiumed only 1 time for 3rd place. In F1 he was awful at overtaking and often crashed because of his poor judgement. His F1 career was as short as it was because he was a constant liability.
Damn, the 2011 cars looked so beautiful. Probably the best in the skinny F1 era. Also of not for the track drying out, schumi could have gotten a podium. Really the rainmeister never disappoints in these conditions.
They're certainly prettier than the stepped-nose F1 design from 2012. I prefer the completely flat nose, way more attractive! I'd probably say 2011 and before for F1 car looks, albeit, there have been great looking cars in the modern F1 era.
Why do you say everything went wrong for him? Vettel was on the same compound as Button in the last stint, and on fresher tires...he had every chance to win the race and before that things were going just fine for him other than his leads getting eliminated he was always on the right strategy and leading comfortably.
Michael Schumacher was just on it in this race, he was Schuperb. It was a Classic The Michael Performance, wish it kept raining. Michael deserved a podium in this Grand Prix. Keep Fighting Michael.
Considering the stage of development that mercedes was at compared to mclaren and redbull it just shows how schumacher was on another level compared to the rest.
Button was a master at tyre preservation. His driving was always elegant. Remember this like yesterday, can’t believe it was 2011! One of my favourite GPs!
@@AZBCDEEthe “Fraud” has 7 world championships and Rosberg only has 1. He was way past his prime at Mercedes and the car was setup way too understeery which didnt suit his driving style.
I remember this race like it was yesterday it was a thrilling Grand Prix from start to finish and the racing was unbelievable Buttons comeback drive was incredible The great Micheal Schumacher who is my hero drove brilliantly in that Mercedes and the rain 🌧 was unbelievable You can't go wrong with a good old wet race 🏎🌧
You are not going to believe me, but I was in the grandstand right where Seb ran wide!!! We all jumped up at once!! Suprising to see the stands didn't collapse!!😁😁🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏁🍺
If it rained a bit more, if the track didn't dry that quickly, Schumacher would be the winner for sure. That year's Merc was an awful car and his talent made him stand out in the rain. What a shame :c
cant even be bothered to look in his mirrors to not hit his team mate, then takes out his team mate unquestionably being his fault, then blames his team mate lol
I've been a hardcore F1 fan since 1992/1993 and have attended many a Grand Prix live since and I rate this as the best Grand Prix since at least 1990, it has everything. Rain, controversial on track incidents, the hours of delay between parts one and two, the thrill of watching Jenson carve the field, seeing Schumi remind us how good he is, the position changes on the last lap and even the comedy moments of a marshall falling over to collect broken debris... You can't help but not be captivated.
you're not a fan. Racing used to be better, not this circus of 2011. They took a normal race and cut it down. If it were completely in rainy conditions, then it would be considered normal. And the 2 best cars win. what has changed?
My greatest childhood memories, and it seems that action like that is back in this year, certainly what I saw in Imola. So Canada 2011, Brazil 2012 and now Imola 2021 are my favourite races of all time. Also I think the best in the past 10 years
Martin is a phenomenal colour commentator, however 2011 showed he wasn't suited to the lead role. You need that 'Crofty like' voice to project when something big happens. You can hear Martin basically straining his voice at points.
Have you ever seen Monza 1971? At least that's the best F1 race I've seen in 50 years following the sport. This one, although, surely qualifies top five.
What made this race so fantastic is that we had such a long break with the red flag, we thought it would not get restarted. I was there in the FREEZING rain for 2 hours and we stayed even tho we were beginning to doubt it would even restart. Well that made it all the more sweeter to stay till the end and living one of the greatest race ever! It was our reward for staying at our seats although I couldn't even feel my fingers at the time xD. It must have been different for those who watched on tv but actually being there made you realize how special that race was.
Such an exciting race i remember watching it live on the TV and not for one moment was i calm constantly on the edge of my seat you don't get moments like this in Formula 1 nowadays.
Think would have been unlikely as was behind schumi at the time think P5 would have been the max which is where petrov finished. Was a good drive until that incident.
Not sure why that’s significant? He got 11 others I think including one earlier in the year. A podium for Kobayashi or Schumacher would’ve been far more important
@@drybones7475 He did amazing in Valencia 2012 too. So many overtakes in the last laps and he kept Mark Webber behind him. That was his best drive after his return imo.
Absolutely the best race I’ve witnessed of formula one. Even including the massive delay which I actually enjoyed from all the commentary chat. Shame we have much shorter race time limits now. Wasn’t a huge Button fan but his comeback to win was just incredible.
