In this video I replace the rear leaf springs on a f550 superduty.
I attribute my successes to god and give him the glory. The eyes of the lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. (Proverbs 15:3)

Looking at those trucks reminds me of municipalities along the shoreline here in CT. Salt water and winter sanding/plowing puts.a beating on those trucks.

Is sure does. We have a 2012 550 and it doesn’t plow, and that truck is actually in really good condition. The frame is still black. The only rust is on the service body.

Thank you. I have a bit of ocd. If I don’t do it this way it will keep running around my head making me worry something would go wrong and come apart. I had to explain it to the snap on guy when he caught me torquing an exhaust band clamp. 😁

Thank you. The springs in these trucks have their challenges, but I’d prefer them over the bigger 6 wheeler springs.

Well three main components a side and only one is made in the USA. (at least its the biggest piece.) Mexico and China get the other pieces. Man I miss the old days when we made everything. Congress and Multi nationals sold the people out. Americans making things and working for good company are what we need now..

I agree. I miss quality, I’d rather pay more and get good parts. Now the good parts are the old cheap parts and they just cost more. Finding skilled workers is becoming difficult now too.

For a smooth ride It's very important to take it apart look at the contact surfaces, polish and remove sharp jagged edges, round off the corners, install slipper pads in-between the leafs if not already there and grease everything with a salt water marine grade grease

Any reason you didn’t do springs when changed breaks? Good video , think my dump truck needs new rear springs, nice to see what is involved.
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic 3 года назад
Thank you. The spring wasn’t broken when I changed the rear brakes. It must have broken about a week or two after the brakes. There was a pretty good run of repairs on this one. With the brakes, the hydraulic valve, and the springs, I think I did an oil and fuel filter service at the same time too. That’s when I noticed the spring when I was under it changing the fuel filter and looking it over.

Nice job ! Ya assembled in the usa, sad really, anyone else see a new Snapon ratchet recently ? Anybody else notice the USA missing from the ratchet ?
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic

I don’t have a newer ratchet but I’ll have to ask the snap on guy about it next time I see him.

do 2012 long bed f250 use the same as regular beds?
@DeVoN420zz
@DeVoN420zz 11 месяцев назад
30:20 looks like it has a progressive top link but all that does is prevent chattering/clunking, the bolts are pretty small and the main leaf is too thin, looks like it's not strong and would break when loaded up and loose traction, dangerous!
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic

These springs are heavier with thicker leaf’s than the stock ones. The bolts are the ford bolts so that’s what it was designed for. Don’t know what your comparing them to, and I don’t see what is dangerous about them.

@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic good job! Enjoyed the video! truck is rated for about 6500+LBS in the bed just seems optimistic given the design

Ford truck with metric bolts? Who'd have thought...
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic 3 года назад
There isn’t much that doesn’t use metric anymore..... of course there isn’t much built in this country anymore either. If it is it’s from over seas parts so they can say it’s assembled here.
@Frank-bh3cm
@Frank-bh3cm 3 года назад
Ohh and I thought it was because of metrics ease of use & simplicity Mercedes ought to start using imperial bolts any day now... 😂
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic 3 года назад
I don’t mind metric bolts now because they are so common, but I don’t have any real problems with sae fasteners either. You get used to it. I actually prefer imperial measurement when measuring over metric though.
@Frank-bh3cm
@Frank-bh3cm 3 года назад
Yes, I guess it's what you're familiar with that works best. When encountering standard bolts, I always seem to have the wrong size spanner in hand. Then its 5mins of calculating what size I should be looking for, was 7/16 larger or smaller than 5/8 and how many thousands am I off this time 🤪
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic

I have a small executive pocket caliper that I will use and measure the bolt sometimes if I’m far away and don’t want to make the back and forth. Or I’ll grab a few sockets at a time if I’m unsure of the size. The rust around here has a tendency to make the fasteners in between sized. I usually read the hardness marks to tell if it’s metric or standard. Numbers are metric and lines are sae.
