Just wanted to thank you Kevin. Watching this video enabled me to change the clutch on my 2010 T260 Transit last month. I also did the flywheel, ball joints and drive shaft seals at the same time. Saved myself hundreds of pounds in labour charges. Pretty hard going in the wet and the cold and it getting dark so early but I did a couple of hours a day for about a week and had it done! I regularly checked back on your video to make sure I hadn't missed anything. Bit harder with no Impact Driver (Oldskool!) and I wasn't strong enough to lift the gearbox back so had to jack it. Couldn't have done it without this brilliant video so thanks a million for sharing. A great advert for your services too. I wish you much success!
colintx800 thanks pal ... honestly sometimes the effort it takes just to get the light, camera, action going can get a bit tense 😬...😂😂.. thanks for the appreciation tho..
Another great video. Every time one of the younger guys complain in my shop that the Transmision Jack seems a little wobbly plus they have access to a two pole lift I’m going to play one of your videos during our lunch time. Be safe and keep up the great work.
Another mother of a box goes in effortlessly and in record time,,,, amazing stuff to watch really enjoy watching a professional making it look easy,,,,, Magic
Incredible workmanship. This guy does a relatively intensive work very easy. Others would speak and act if they had to move a mountain when performing this clutch job. Thanks
Thank you, that was a great tutorial excellent camera work too, especially liked the skill needed to pump the jack with your leg while holding the gearbox, great job and thank you again for the lesson.
Just been looking for a vid on this, me n 2 others did this 🤣 you make it look so easy, had to strip it all down again as was sold the wrong fly wheel, as didn't get to do it the same way with just 2 this time, so your way on my own looks the best way to go thanks again Kevin 👍😎
Man you must be loving your job , I've been fixing cars and vans for 40 years, saw you have a minute after getting the box back in , people don't appreciate what we do to our bodies heaving heavy parts dead weight off the floor back into their vehicles , do you like working in the rain , could do with another jack to take the weight of the g box take care of yourself when lifting , a proper job there , hope you charge properly for the job , don't throw away the clutch points , quite a lot of decent stuff on the Repexpert site , have a look if you're not registered with them , well done
I work on busses mostly - not always.. Usually I do stuff everyone else has passed on as "Impossible". My "Videos" would start with taking off the wheel - whereby nothing would budge using any form of impact wrench below a 3/4" and even then it would be a struggle.. I use a 9' breaker bar on 3/4" sockets as everyone tightens bus bolts waaay over tight "just in case"/"Insurance"/Lawsuits.. From there on in, it would be very similar crawling around underneath, cold, wet, covered in muck that falls off, eyes full of dust & debris, working on heavy stuff no sane person ought work on. Anyone that comes in asks am I mad seeing the sheer graft that is involved daily doing even the routine stuff - which is why I like this Channel - it's a Graft Channel - and Graft these days is rare. It pays well - but you earn it. Nobody much does it for good reason - it's fairly straightforward, but far from easy. Kevs Channel is one you go to remember you could be grafting harder if you tried. No fancy words, no soundtrack - but if you know, you just know. THIS.IS.SPARTA! Shoutout to all the Mechanical Warriors. Keep on keeping on. No swearing allowed - it's inanimate metal, it won't care & was sent to test you. Don't fear the clutch - make the clutch fear You. If you're near Kevin & need a clutch - ring him. Consider yourself privileged to have such a great service to hand.
Great video Kevin, i would never have attempted my mk7 6 gear fwd if i had'nt watched this. As for lifting the box i was lucky to have a genie handy at the time but still a hard job thankyou for your hard work in making this video i owe you a pint pal.
...to do all this work without the convenience of a mechanic shop....amazing..!!! Sincerely I do admire you..!!!! I did subscribe to your channel .... Greetings from US......
I was a Mobile Clutch Fitter for 30yrs, watching you gave me a little chuckle, that's how I would work, using my leg to operate the jack whiles removing/fitting gearbox, the only tip I can give you Kevin, 1, buy a big sheet of tarpaulin, back your van onto the vehicle with the back doors open, then clamp the tarpaulin to the back of the van, go straight over the car and tuck it in, you can then work without getting wet, plus you can then get things out of the van without getting wet, 2,Buy good thermal underwear (long johns). sadly your hands and shoulders will wear. Oh and 3, leave the vehicle running for as long as you can in the winter, just to take the sting out of the cold metal, other then that, all the best mate.
Alister West mate that was one of the quickest gearbox in and out so far I’ve done. Really nice layout and plenty of room. But my goodness it was a heavy lump of metal that gearbox was ...😆
Remember doing a few of these during the first few months when I started working at a shop back in 2014. One of them had an issue with the clutch master cylinder, it could not be bled from the new slave cylinder. It worked fine with the old clutch until the slave cylinder was replaced during the process. I was scratchin my head for an afternoon until I decided to order a new master cylinder for the clutch and behold it bled normally.
Wow great video and great detail - it shows you that the have a go guys / me - it’s well over my tools and skill level - I guess that’s why we need you Kevin - Top man 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
OMG!! Ive had to stop 23.59 In to say WOWWWW What a mechanic!! 🤩 I Think its WOW blowin me away here.. Jeeze what an artist and a amazing Knowlege! I am In AWE ANd is it possible to fall in love with someone watching their amazing work AYE!! Fantastic !!! Im away back to Watch the rest now lol WOW! 🤩🤩🤩
Another job well done Kevin just as a matter of interest what is the easiest and worst cars to work on changing clutches Back in the days I used to be able to change a Vauxhall’s viva clutch from start to finish in 3/4 of an hour like you working off the floor but didn’t have any power tools then
Wonderful work Fair Play You make it look easy, I've done them talk about a heavy box. I wonder If You built yourself some sort of trailer that opens out as a small shed even enough for around the front as shelter Your young but the body will age faster in the cold and damp.
Superb piece of work from a very skilled mechanic ! I now realize that when I need a new clutch this is not a job I can do. I will be calling Kevin. P.S. please use heavy duty axle stands. Reduce risks whenever possible. In cold weather wear wear more layers which can be removed if getting too hot !
mat kliko that’s really great to know. Do you do a bit of everything or just clutch like I. Really appreciate your feedback and for visiting the channel
@@WMCS I do almost everything, clutch, engine, brakes and it was in the first place a hobby. But i have also a job in a factory and now i have time to short. I cant wait to see the next video.
Absolutely nice work, thanks a lot! One question however: what exactly did you do at the end when you applied pressure to the clutch pedal and opened a screw to let oil/some fluid out?
Hi Kevin. Thanx a lot for posting those helpful videos. Never worked on my car on my own but thanks to your video I just removed the gearbox from my 2012 Transit 2.2 to get to first gear fixed!!! Took me 2 1/2 days, but hey... :) Could you please tell me what sort of red grease it is you put on the screws holes? And is it necessary to use a torque wrench? Cheers
Good man using the sealant around the csc , the amount of how to videos that don't, they must wonder why gearbox oil pisses through andcontaminates clutch
Brilliant video, I'm gonna tackle mine in the next few weeks. I used to work in a clutch center about 20 year ago so fingers crossed it goes OK. I think I need to change my flywheel as I have a slight shudder. Any advice on that Kevin? Not sure if it duel mass or flat. Its a 2011 fwd 2.2 140. And do I need a torque rench?
Wrench. Not needed but would do & always check torque specs. If it’s anything above the 100hp ones they all got the dual mass. Fuck the forums, go for the dual mass, puts less strain on everything & everything moves nice & smooth.
Hi Kevin, congratulations on the work you do, both mechanical and videographic, I wanted to ask you what is the red paste you put in the holes of the gearbox screws and in the gearbox pin that enters the crankshaft? and also what do you spray on the flywheel, water? Grazieeee, keep it up you are a Great
Al Dec thanks for the nice review. Red rubber grease stops oxidisation of metal to metal and it’ll definitely reduce clutch drag which is when the clutch plate gets stuck on the spline which is another cause for premature wear Brake cleaner is great for really washing out all the dust and any oil residue as it’s a solvent it air dry almost instantly.
another class video from the clutch master ! what is the black sealant stuff you put behind the bearing or is it ok to just put the bearing on without it ?
@@WMCS Thanks again ! I used the two clutch videos you have made to help me do my dads transit slave cylinder so helpful. This one has aircon pipes under it but managed to lower it enough to get it out. got it out last night and now struggling to lift it back in - with three of us😂 you really do make it look easy mate must be about 70kilo
Top work! Just wondering if you have thought about a motorcycle jack to lower and lift gearbox back up? I got one on wheels with pull handle, a god send for engine removal
@@WMCS Hi Kevin, in all fairness i didn't really think about the loading and unloading from van.... Durrrrr 🙄. I would say its about 20-25kg but might still be worth the hassle if you got one that just doesn't want to line up. Keep up the good work man 👍
This guy is HULK. I just fitted a new flywhell and getting the gearbox back in place with 2 of us near killed me. This guy threw it in like it was nothing, must be 60-70kgs. A word of advice if your doing it alone..... put a board on your chest then roll the gearbox onto the board.
Clear Flow Drainage LUK does the best heavy duty clutch kit for these engines. And SACHS manufactures the most reliable CSC(slave cylinder). It’s a fairly straight forward well designed and very accessible to reach bolts in these engines. The box is quite a unit tho. Might be a good idea to get an extra pair of hands manoeuvring it.
This looks like a SAC clutch. I see you don´t use the SAC tool, but just an ordinary aligner. «Experts» says you should never install a SAC clutch due to the possibillity of «resetting» it. What is your experience? Do you need the special tool or can it be done safely without it? Is there any fallpits you should avoid? Love your channel btw.
Geir Ove Tømmerbakk I’ve never used any other tool apart from this £10 clutch alignment tool .... I’ve seen some real fancy clutch tools worth about £600... At the end of the day all it’s doing is aligning the clutch plate to pressure plate. *One thing that you can do for free rather than use a high tech tool is to always tighten the clutch plate bolt oppositely with even pressure as you go along. All the clutch plate with wear adjustment won’t ever reset because they are locked until the engine has been started and it’s spinning over 1k revs. Thanks for your input on the channel. Much appreciated
