To all: There is now a service campaign in place for getting this door latch replaced at no cost. My driver's side door went first back in 2014 and thankfully it was still covered under warranty. Now 2 years later my front passenger door went. I called the dealership to ask had there been a recall yet as I know this is a common problem with Kia. That's when I was told it wasn't a recall, but a "service campaign" which is entirely voluntary and Kia is not required to notify the owners that this campaign even exists. I just came from picking my car up from the service department. If any of them give you any push back on this, the code used on my service invoice is CS1603B. Oh! There is also a campaign to replace the door handles because the silver coating is starting to peel and can give you a nasty cut. I've already been a victim of that. So they replaced the door handle at no charge as well. Hopes this helps!
I have the same problem , so is covered by a service campaign? . how can I find out more information about it . I called the dealer they do not know anything about it. thanks in advance for your help
They replaced my handles, but now, my rear door handle on the driver (L) side no longer works. The child safety latch was on so, I can't open if from the inside or outside. I am scared to take it to the dealer as they ALWAYS overcharge me for everything. A few times, work charged wasn't even done.
Wow! I had been getting very frustrated with this issue, and was actually just looking for a video on how to get the interior of the door apart. For whatever reason the video did not have sound for me, but I knew pretty quickly that you were fixing the same issue that I was having and through a little bit of scrubbing and pausing was able to locate the same problem on mine! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Wow thank you, you're a genius...saved me $500. Fixed my driver side door, same procedure. Also, I had to take the exterior key latch off to get the actuator out...took about 2 hours, but I'm a novice! Also forgot to put the rubber window screw covers, oh well!!
Merci Charlie, j'ai le même problème en France sur mon Sorento de 2009 ! Comme il est trop vieux le concessionnaire ne veut pas le changer, je vais essayer ta méthode, merci encore ! Thank you Charlie, I have the same problem in France on my 2009 Sorento! Since he is too old the dealer does not want to change it, I will try your method, thanks again!
Well, thanks for the video. I decided to do it coz the dealer wants $400 to fix it. I bought the replacement part for $50. I actually replaced the latch assembly completely by myself! It takes a lot of patience, and tiny hands but it can be done! I had to use impact wrench to remove two bolts holding the window before you can even remove the entire metal cover. And with the actuator, I actually have to fish out the little ball at the end.
This videos really did help me it works but the door wont lock so i did it for a temporary fix i just tossed it up and ordered a new lock set up off ebay for $55.69 and did this same process plus a few other steps and wah lah problem fixed permanently (hopefully) thanks for the video
keep the foam on the front part of the rotating tumbler to keep the plastic piece from falling worked so far...pain it the ass to get to it as doors always are the video was beneficial to see how it comes apart ....thanks charles
im about to make a video of myself doing the exact same thing as this guy only sound,, boom wayyyyy wayyy more hits and satisfaction once i figure this out .watch!
Our door is missing a bunch of pegs, and they are not keeping the interior held down...Any suggestions for that? How do I take the door off just to put the interior pegs into place? I attempted to do it (The door wasn't totally off) The pegs I bought broke while I was popping it back into place!! Grrrr
This seems to be a issue with many Kia Models . I had this serviced on Kia Rondo EX 2008 passenger rear for 400 + $ at dealer. Now I have similar problem Driver side rear door.
I had one break under warranty, them 2 back to back outside warranty so I called their head office, they paid for a free rental and fixed both for free. they had my dealership send them back for a check, then about a month later that national recall came out. I also have 4 10" woofers in my Sorento so that probably doesn't help either.
@@privatename3621 door handles stop working to get in, but work to get out. There was a national notice for it, they put a clip in them now to stop them from breaking
ok i have done this entire process even though there is no sound y? who knows? since this is literally the only video i have found to solve this particular problem which again has no sound, no, step to step process is stupid hands down. my door now will not shut, lock,or stay closed some insight/ problem solving would b great .
The foam pushes up the locking mechanism allowing you to open the door from the outside. My 2011 drivers broke and I drilled out the side of the door exactly where this white clip is, rather than taking apart the door. After manipulating white clip upward, I was able to open the door from the outside. However from what I saw is that if you insert the foam, you will no longer be able to keep the outside handle from being locked, it will always be unlocked. When you push up the white piece, it unlocks the latch on the inside of the door. Bummer.
followed this instruction and same thing. If you lodge a foam in there, it won't lock and will always be open. Again, if you do this video, you will be able to open the door from the outside BUT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO LOCK IT! just buy an actuator from amazon or something if you're going to open it.
Man, I am not gay but I swear I would give you a kiss with tongue for this solution😂. It works perfectly., Folks don't fool yourselves thinking this is a permanent solution, it will fail again eventually as the foam looses its elasticity inside.. I ordered the new actuator from korea for $90 shipped. I have a sorento 2010. God bless you. Thank you so much
Hi Folks, just an update here. I have received and installed the new actuator since this solution didnt last long for me. The actuator came with the wires inverted (common issue) so after installing, when I lock the car, the door with the new actuator unlocked and vice versa. The solution is to take everything apart again and at the connector that goes into the actuator invert the orange and blue and then it works beautifully. Hope this helps somebody out there. cheers
did you ever get to fix that? I'm stuck in the same position and can't seem to figure it out. it's my mither in law's truck and I'm afraid I have lost credibility with her for making false promises. I claimed it was too easy a job and It was a shame when I had to put the door panel back on in shame....help!
You will have to remove the window, to do so, you have to lower or upper the window with the control switch, like he did, until you see the 2 bolts align with the hole covered by a black round seal. Then you unscrew just enough to release the window clamp so you can take it off. Then, the silver panel could be tough to remove, i had to remove the outside handle.
how did you remove the metal frame? mine seems stuck or fixed to the window ...do i just pull it out or what man I'm stuck right where the video seems to miss that part when you pull it out. please share
Assuming you have followed the video right up to the point where it skips a number of steps, i.e. window glass should be removed at this point: When you get to that part of the disassembly, you need to then remove the external door handle. Under the door handle is another bolt that you need to remove. Then undo the three bolts holding the door latch on the side of the door. Then the metal plate on the door will come off. The door lock assembly is attached to that metal plate so it will take a bit of patient manipulating to get it all out, patience because you also will have to deal with all the wiring harnesses attached that restrict how much you can move the metal plate. There are plenty of other videos that show how to remove the door handle correctly, you don't want to break the door handle.
Our drivers side went, was covered by warranty, but the rear is not. What does the km's have to do with a door latch?..... They want $400 Canadian for a new one!!!
Does anyone know how to removed the glass on the rear door in order to get the metal door panel off. I unscrew the screw that is supposed to connect to the door glass holder but it doesn't seem to release the glass. Is there a trick? Also, the screw doesn't want to come the entire way out. I get it out about 1/4 inch and it jams (like it is captive). Should it come all of the way out?
Since there is no audio is there a way to get a description of what is happening with that foam getting stuffed into the mechanism? How/why does it work?
Goes too fast can't see how to take door panel off. I can remove all the screws but can't get the top of the panel close to the door latch off and sound would really help, but thanks
Reason why no sound is because its only showing u to take off door pannel and where the problem at of why the door wont open from the outside.. The end of the video is the last part showing u the little white part that needs to be push back up.. Reason why i put foam because thats the soft object i use to hold that up.. And it works ..
You could add pop-up text windows using RU-vid. One at the beginning to explain what you typed in. One later on to talk about how important the white tab is. etc.
Poor. No sound. Camera all over the place. Can't tell what is going on most of the time. I guess if you are just showing off how fast you can do this then OK but it you are trying to help others do the same thing not so much.
