I’ll never forget the day tornadoes tore through Alabama and left a permanent scar on the state and my heart. The 2011 Super Outbreak was one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks ever recorded. Four tornadoes were officially rated as EF-5 on the Enhanced Fujita scale that day, with winds between 260 mph and 320 mph. In Alabama alone, 238 tornado-related deaths were confirmed by the Storm Prediction Center and the Emergency Management Agency. This is video moment after the tornado barley missed downtown Birmingham and The Weather Channel’s Jeff Morrow asked me for an interview on the fly. I was there from the beginning, 28 hours of tracking severe weather. Since 1950, there have only been 59 confirmed EF-5 tornadoes in the United States.
