I'm in a similar situation as I purchased a 2008 Avalon Limited with 68,000 one owner miles back in June of 2022. I wanted a dependable daily to keep the miles and wear/tear off my new 2022 Avalon Limited. In roughly seventeen months, I have driven the '08 about 23,000 as it's now at 91,000. The '22 has been driven about 900 miles during the same time frame. No regrets whatsoever. There are thousands of us who cherish these Generation 3 Avalons. Unless you have had/have one, you don't know just how good these cars are!
I bought my 2007 Limited Avalon with 193,000 miles on it December 2022, for $3600 and now it currently has 243,133 miles on it. The only parts I had to replace was the thermostat. I elected to have the water pump, radiator and belts replaced (since belts had to be removed to access water pump and thermostat). I still have the stock radio which plays well... Extremely Well! I also put four brand new tires the same month I purchased it, and still have the same tires. I have the same issue with my electric rear curtains, but to me a minor problem not worth investing money to have repaired. The "ONLY" issue I have with this car is, NO AUXILIARY INPUT, or BLUETOOTH AVAILABILITY. I have use aftermarket crap to be piped over FM frequency. I definitely love your "MIRROR DASH CAM", as I have the windshield mount. You spoke trying or will purchase another car...BMW?.......DON'T DO IT! I have a neighbor that had the 750il, and had to have his fuel line pressurized and recalibrated. It cost him more than the cost of my car. He sold it through Facebook afterwards, because another problem arose. He saw the writing on the wall. But, if you honestly wanna give it a spin and sell your Avalon within a year from my post..contact me so I Can get dibs on it . Spyryder@gmail.com I also live in Pennsylvania.
I bought my 07 Avalon in 09 with just under 25k miles, it only has 92k miles on it now. I'll never sell it. Best car I've ever owned. I agree with you on the unbelievable power from the 3.5 liter engine. I don't know what's causing your shift problems and why it's not down shifting for passing. In my car at 40 mph if I floor it to pass another car, it immediately down shifts and will start spinning the front tires as I'mpassing, it will go from 40 to 80 mph in a flash while making the pass. As far as top speed I've had mine up to 130 mph, and backed off. That was as fast as I wanted to go. You're at the mileage now that you should probably do a transmission fluid and filter change. That's part of the normal maintenance for the car. If that doesn't correct the shifting then I'd say take it to a trusted mechanic, I wouldn't go to a dealership. You'll just get overcharged and may not even get satisfactory service. The last thing I'd say is on your next car plan, if you're thinking of trading the Avalon for a BMW, you're probably going to regret that, especially if the BMW is anywhere near the 100k mile mark, that's about the time all German cars start to have breakdowns. Keep that Toyota and happy driving to you.
Thanks for the radio always display trick I just used it on my 2011 Highlander I had no idea however the navigation isn't useless I just don't want to see it all the time my 09 Avalon Limited has a way to turn the screen completely off BTW if you're planning on buy a BMW seriously have a repair shop on speed dial and roadside assistance
I got the exact same car with a hundred and ninety five thousand miles on it and it runs like a dream.. Same issue with the transmission. It's a rough a little rough when is cold but when it warms up it's beautiful... Super quiet super smooth and it's fast..
What brand camera, if you don't mind sharing? I have the 06, looks just like yours, but lighter wood color. The tinting on my rear window is so dark, it's hard to see well. I hate losing the mirror with the compass, but it could always be put back. So, are you happy with the brand of camera that you installed? Would you please share the name of it?
I just bought a 2012 Toyota Avalon with 115k miles a month ago. Nicest car i’ve ever owned! I feel like my 115k mile Toyota is in the same mechanical condition as a 60k mile Ford or GM product. It just blows my mind how good these cars are… I’m not used to it! It looks like our Avalons are the same spec, mine is a Limited model too. I do agree with you and everyone else, you should get your transmission looked at/serviced. The 2GR in these cars are wicked fun! I never have issues passing on the highway and i’ll throw my Avalon into sport mode and beat a lot of people at red lights or on the highway. Obviously it’s no hellcat or mustang so i’m not gonna try racing them but the 2GR and 6 speed auto is a very competent drivetrain from what i’ve experienced. My only complaint with mine, is I hate the automatic rain sensing wipers. I think they suck! I wish mine had regular variable intermittent wipers. Most of the time when I try using the automatic wipers they just stop wiping randomly and I have to switch it to the regular wiping mode. It’s annoying! But considering how horrible all my Fords treated me in the past, i’ll take that complaint with me and run with it LOL Also, I hope you trade that Avalon for a BMW thats at least relatively new or comes with a really good and long warranty. I have absolutely no interest in those vehicles haha. I’m hoping I can keep my Avalon for the next 10 years as long as it doesn’t get wrecked or rust out or blow up on me… Which I don’t think will happen. Enjoy, and good luck!
Yeah I’m looking at a 12 Avalon limited with 117 k miles. I’ve heard that it’s got a V6 with 267 hp. Big car with plenty of power? Good acceleration? The particular car I’m looking at going for $7800 and has a very beautiful exterior ❤
I just bought a 2011 avalon limited with 37,800 miles. The transmission shifts nice. You might need yors serviced. However, i have a bad audio amp. I agree the GPS is outdated. I really prefer the old Garman I have in my 08 Seinna. Keep up the reports 😊
Don't buy a BMW, you think you have problems with the transmission on this Avalon? Well the BMW is twice as bad. Everyone i know that owns a BMW has had transmission problems.
Sadly, Toyota is discontinuing the Avalon. I wanted one, but I couldn't find one that I could afford. People who sell them these days overprice them like crazy.
Maybe you can consider a transmission oil change? Don't flush it just change it. Do some research on it and then do it, maybe you just need an updated software for the transmission
He said "the car has never given me any troubles" but the transmission fails to kick down to a lower gear on the freeway. Sounds like he should change the fluid and the transmission filter.
Get that fluid out of transmission use dealer fluid and filter. Trans fluid is probably trash. Check sensors and other electronics or cable that might kick down performance but ditch old fluid first then test drive.
