Looking back you can't help but wonder if they were competing poorly because of what they were going through. So sad every single one of them deserved such better treatment.
these are incredible gymnasts who faced years of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. they weren't being properly treated for injuries. their bodies were hanging on a thread. keep this in mind before criticizing their performance.
I agree tremendously! I don’t like at all that they are in aw at someone who takes a step because they have extra power but when someone else does it it’s like ohhhhh that is a huge deduction it’s going to cost her the entire competition.🙄🙄😠cause I thing gymnastics is sometimes based on favoritism
Agree now you see gymnast smile their not so hard on themselves back than some of the coaches were jerks instead of lifting the gymnast spirits made them feel worse I’m sure it played a huge role in the performance they looked miserable it’s sad they had to go through that and that so many adults allowed it I hated them always talking about the karolies they caused a lot of the girls to have eating disorders and put stress upon them than that gave that sicko who’s now rotting in prison a way to go after these young ladies . So glad he’s rotting behind bars I can’t believe he did that science the 1990’s I rem Shannon miller hurting her ankle nasser went to her she got up right away she knew he wasn’t right and the karolies were abusive also it’s why Kim zameskial began coaching the way she got coached that type of coaching causes mistakes it doesn’t help it puts more pressure . I’m so glad how diff it is now you can see the girls are happy now
This has got to be my favorite US Championships purely because of how stacked the US team was, despite all the falls. So many legends in the building. Gabby, Jordyn, Aly, McKayla, Shawn, Chellsie, Alicia, Rebecca, and more all in one competition. We were just absolutely stacked with legends in the sport in this competition
Most only have 2 years, by the time they hit mid to.late teens their bodies are breaking due to injuries, overtraining, malnutrition, eating disorders and then just mentally being exhausted . The body isn't meant to go through this type of training with bad nutrition habits.
I think this championship was the breaker for Gabby Douglas...where she said she decided to give up(in her movie). It took the intervention of those around her to help her get her confidence back, and she never looked back since. Some people criticize her for whatever reason they think they may have...you may call her 'inconsistent' or what not. A gymnast who wasn't doing so well before and nearly called it quits, but found a way to pick herself up, psyche herself up enough, and change her whole gymnastics deserves respect. Where were your 'consistent' favourites on the day they were expected to bring it? Love her or hate her, her name has gone into history, her medals are hers...what is your own achievement???
The Gym Editor I agree! Her pak is so nice and flighty, and if she added some more difficult skills to her forward section before the piked jaeger, and connected that full pirouette to her dismount, she'd have a pretty difficult routine. The only thing is that Maloney. . . She would need to work on that a lot.
It's socially nice how they support each other with a hug. Fascinating that this is the first Visa's that Jordyn has competed in. I like the soundtrack that Alicia went with for her floor. Mckayla is indeed a beauty. Alexandra seems to have done perfect on her floor. I agree too that Jordyn floor was nicely done. I feel bad for Rebecca having three major errors on beam that in which she didn't get a good enough score. Alexandra did a perfect vault.
Looking back on this, it makes you wonder if maybe some of the athletes' heads weren't in the game and they made so many mistakes because they had just been abused by Nassar and they couldn't shake it enough to perform well.
iamkarenh she still won lol - meanwhile the so called better gymnasts aka the Russians are still crying over spilt milk. Lol and now simone biles is dominating. Lol #THEBLACKTAKEOVER LOOOOOL - this is just the beginning. There will be plenty of time for the haters to moan. Since 2012 we been on top baby. SO KEEP CRYING WHILE WE KEEP WINNING
Tim D says of Rebecca Bross, “she just looks tired to me, she looks overworked”. That’s exactly what she was because that’s what Velari Liukin did to her. Trying to make her an elite AA gymnast or push her to learn skills she clearly wasn’t able to do just to make the olympics in 2012. That’s why she failed. Every time I look at her all i see is unhappy. She like Riley McCusker looked the same. Good thing Riley had the chance to switch coaches and is now happier. We’ll see at the 21 trials if that’s made a difference. I believe it will.
He wasn't teaching her new skills, he was just trying to get her old skills back. Not saying he went about it the right way, but he wasn't adding anything significant in any Rebecca routine here.
Poor Gabby. She looked so defeated, you could see it in her face. So proud that she was able to go out to the Olympics a year later and take the gold tho!
I love watching these old meets it brings back so many memories of when I was in the gym, I miss it so much!!! Hey maybe I can comeback like Chelsea Memmel did..🤔🤔😂😂🤔🤔😳😳
It's good that Chellise made a come back to competing in gymnastics, for this Visa Championships. Along with two of her 2008 Olympic gymnastic teammates, Shawn and Alicia. Plus non Olympic teammates: Jordyn, Rebecca, Mckayla Alexandra. They're all my favorite. In addition, I loved how they did on their routines (for on both day 1 and day 2). Although if they had lost a points due to an errors, an injury on their routine, or didn't do four routines, at this Visa Championships.
I know this is years late but the music playing while Chellsie is preparing for her vault around 1:18:00 is from the Avatar score! It took me a sec to realize what it was from but I think it's specifically the piece called "Becoming one of the people". Such a stunning piece of music!
Every time the commentators were commenting on Gabbie’s youth and inconsistency and genuinely being doubtful, I just kept thinking that is your soon to be Olympic AA gold medal winner! It seemed so unlikely at this point. What an Olympics performance she put in!
These commentators literally make me sick. Criticise is all they are good for. Shawn Johnson performs a world-class vault after her comeback which is already extremely hard to do yet these two could not criticise fast enough how untidy it was and that sly comment on her smile... Which is why I love BBC commentators. They are encouraging, classy and give constructive critics that are both useful and supporting. No wonder she decided to not go through her comeback.
ajlove2013 myckayla for sure!!! alicia's first vault is huge but mykayla has a higher start value and she's excellent at it too. alicia's second vault though is too low compared to maroneys
I like a blunt analysis from commentators, but Tim and Elfi speak in absolutes too much and seem to like to perpetuate drama. Sometimes just down right nasty about the gymnasts. Littlest things are ‘disasters’ ugh
2nd roluation 2nd place Alexandra raisman 2nd place Shawn Johnson 2nd place Alicia sacramone 2nd place Anna li 2nd place Jordan wieber 2nd place Mackenzie caquatto 3rd place chelise memmel bridgette caquatto 5th place Rebecca bross 6th place Sabrina vega
So sad seeing Larry Nasser there helping them...So sick!! I bet he loves when someone got hurt you can see it in his eyes...I can't even look at him, what a Sicko!!!!
More space means ppl trying to add more stuff in. You will always get ppl going out of bounds. And plenty of ppl have done those passes(including them) and stayed in bounds.
1.Did you notice how Tim Daggot conflated Dads with coaches trying to make it seem like coaches are like Dads so if they touch you(like this or that) it’s only because they are Dadlike and not some MAJOR pervert?!…2.Why are the coaches always touching the girls?!They grab and seem to force hug and the girls usually look unsettled about it.3.Why would Ally’s coach grab her face like that?!WTH!!!!REALLY???!!!!
They were being sexually abused by the team doctor and many of them also starved and abused by their coaches. It is understandable they didn’t do well.
I'm sorry but I'm so annoyed with all these girls screaming "c'mon-- c'mon--" ENOUGH ALREADY!! It doesn't even have meaning anymore when everyone is screaming it all the time" save it for when it's poignant
What the bleep is wrong with these kids?! This was my a hot mess; you expect it at the juniors...having said that, in my inexpert opinion, maybe they're trying to cram in too much difficulty because of the code of points. Sacrificing artistry is too great a sacrifice.
@@beacanlas8704 that's literally NOT true, not even almost. Bross kept doing the Patterson because she actually could do the dismount VERY well. Oddly it was not translated often into competition
@@sashaandrov231 plus i think she had said she needed it to stay competitive. had rebecca not gotten injured, i think she could have hoped for alternate in 2012 at best, she just fell behind others difficulty and consistency wise once olympic time would have rolled around. she had a lot less competition 2009/2010
"2003, 2004...I thought those are Chellsie Memmel's years. Here it is 2011 and she's right back here in the mix." -John Well here we are in 2020 and IT'S A COMEBACK BABY!
That's what I'll never understand. Any physical therapist or orthopedic surgeon had to know back then that her internal hip rotation and inward knees could not allow her to land skills safely. In Europe where they scout for talent in kindergarten and elementary schools, they'd have taken one look at her and refused her for gymnastics. But instead, her parents were willing to pay the fees and the coaches were more than able to cash in, her pain be damned. What I see in this meet (I'm a former gymnast and retired kinesiologist) is that at that age the body grows and shifts all the time, her natural physiology was already rebelling against the rigors of the alignment requirements for gymnastics. The fact that she eventually blew out her kneecap does not surprise me in the least. The fact that she was encouraged to continue afterwards enrages me more than I can tell. I feel so bad for her.
i didn't think gabby had a chance of going to or winning the gold medal at the olympics in 2012 when i first watched this. but once i watched her at the 2012 nationals, i knew she was gonna make it. it's amazing how much she improved in almost a year.
She said competing at Worlds and doing so well in prelims, where she came something like 6th, but 3rd highest American, only not competing in AA finals due to the 2 per country rule. That is what gave her the confidence that she could do it and reach the top in 2012.
