Are we gonna ignore the fact that Elizabeth Price got a 16.050 on her second vault? Poor girl tried out for the olympics at the worst time. She peaked the same time McKayla Maroney peaked. She would’ve made the team any other Olympics. She was basically in the exact same scenario MyKayla Skinner was in in 2016.
@ciara beth considering she made it as an alternate, had some of the highest difficulty, then proceeded to become one of the best gymnasts in NCAA, clearly she doesn't 'suck'
@ciara beth she's a terrible person? Have you ever even met the girl? Her form wasn't perfect, but these days very few gymnasts have perfect form. Not to mention, she did NOT fall constantly, and I'm pretty sure she has the record for most consecutive hit routines in the NCAA, so clearly falling isn't her issue
@ciara beth name a gymnast who hasn't fallen.... I'll wait. I'm pretty sure falling is built into the sport. Second: at least in April of this year she had the record with 161, I can't find what Maggie Nichols has. Either way, she at least had the record, and that's a lot. Third: character attacks do nobody any good, fourth: can you prove it? Do you know her? What EXACTLY has she said that proves she's racist or homophobic?
@ciara beth okay first of all I have this thing called a job. Believe it or not I don't live in the comments section of RU-vid. And again I ask, what SPECIFICALLY makes her racist or homophobic? You can't just accuse someone, you have to prove it. And yes. I'm aware she fell multiple times. But again I say: EVERYONE FALLS SOMETIMES. That's the nature of the sport. It happens. Every gymnast falls. You can find multiple videos of every gymnast currently competing falling. That's not unique to her. You can not like her all you want, but you can't deny that the girl is talented and determined.
@Michelle simone was the first to do three turns in a row in that position and doing also faster than everybody did or before. Then yes it justifies that it is now one of her many signatures...
Can we talk about Elizabeth Price for a second?? HOW was she not picked for the team?? She was amazing all around and her coaches have to be the cutest thing I've ever seen.
@@KatieLHall-fy1hw Agreed. Plus she fell on the vault with the lower difficulty. Her amanar is what really set the bar high for her, especially since she stuck it better than I've seen anyone ever do. Vault is so underscored now, that'd probably be impossible unless you use a super difficult vault like the produnova or biles
The lead picture is so sad. You could see in NASTIA's face she knew she didn't have it in her enough to pull it out. She was exhausted, upset, angry and just plain embarrassed I think. The time off and the injuries were all just too much to overcome on the time till London. She knew she would be a negative to the team, not a positive. I have no doubts that if she has had few extra months she would have been in great shape. I was so happy to see the way the crowd responded to her at the end of the last event. A class lady with grace and they treated her as such. Bravo.
“There's two things that pressure can do. Pressure could either break, or it could make diamonds. Pressure could either bust pipes or it can create and make diamonds. You choose what to do for it, or what to do with it, remember that.” Only competition brings out the best performance. Unfortunately, that requires winners AND losers.
I think Nastia deserved more credit, love, and respect for her performance during those 2 days of trials given her short time of training. Not a successful comeback but her existence in gymnastics really brought me joy ❤️❤️❤️ love you Nastia!
Right? It hurts even more knowing how injured she was during this time and at the Olympics and the horrors she went through thanks to that sick "doctor". For her to have not only the physical but mental strength too to be able to still compete is just insane.
Why didn't they like Gabby? Man, I don't understand why she had to go through these types of comments, she was always an excellent athlete. 😞 Was it racism?
@@tatilalima2874 people hated on her mainly because of how her hair looked at the Olympics (which was really stupid and sad of people to do because why does hair matter when they're at the OLYMPICS competing for their country?) And because she beat komova and people felt that she only got "lucky" even though komova was inconsistent during that time and Gabby won fair and square. Another reason could be her saying on an aly post that what women wear can affect them being sexually assaulted sometimes which is NOT OK, especially given what happened to many US gymnasts. She apologized and said she was a victim too though and that she didn't mean it in a negative way. That still wasn't cool but she definitely doesn't deserve nearly as much hate as she gets
@@murasakino101 I personally felt that Gabby's AA bars were quite overscored because she had missed a few handstands that would take around 0.3-0.5 off, it was pretty much identical to her team finals routine, which I believed scored in the 15.200s, yet in the AA it ballooned up to a 15.733. Nonetheless, the vault really sealed the deal, I love Vika, but it was sad that she just stopped fighting for the landing. I had no idea about the hairdo part, that's just not right for people to hate on her for that. My only reason for slightly disliking her was because of her comment on what women wear. I kind of understand what she means, but it's still not cool, women should be able to wear whatever they want without worrying about men
Still upset that Chellsie Memmel wasn’t allowed to advance to trials. Tim once said that Marta didn’t care what you’d done in the past, the only thing that mattered was how you were doing now and I don’t think that’s true at all. Nastia definitely would not have made it to trials had she not been who she was in 2008. Chellsie had a far greater chance to make the 2012 team than Nastia (in my opinion) and they didn’t let her go to trials :/
With Marta picking the team Chellsie unfortunately did not have a better chance to make the team than even out of shape Nastia. Marta even admitted if Nastia hit just one bar routine she was putting her on the team. She couldn't even manage that so missed it. Still that gives her far higher odds than Chellsie had.
Huh? Simone landed that vault incredibly TONS of times. Watch the compilation of her nailing Amanars. McKayla rarely landed it without a big step. Simone was far more consistent on it.
It’s a fantastic thing that Larry Nassar is now behind bars for the rest of his life. What he did to these women was so unbelievably wrong. He also sexually abused and molested them. He does not deserve to be released from jail any time soon.
I don’t understand why Rebecca Bross would keep a dismount on beam that she cannot land 99% of the time. Choose a different dismount that you can land!
Queen Bee at times she would get balance checks when standing riht before the dismount, almost shaking , it shows how scared she is and unprepared to do it , valeri seems to be a coach who doesnt really listen to his gymnasts and that showed in ohashi and bross and ivana hong , theres a difference between pushing them and pacing too hard and breaking them causing injuries
Cole Smith Makes me mad that Valeri completely fucked her yet she tried to discredit Katelyn Ohashi by defending Valeri for his unethical coaching techniques
Did she say she’s trying for 2020?! If so, you’re definitely right. She looks like she’s definitely been focusing more on enjoying life than gymnastics (which isn’t bad at all! Just don’t think she’s anywhere close to Olympic level )
Jasmine Leopard She has said in the past that she will try to come back to elite, but now that you mention it, I haven’t heard her say anything more recently 🤔
No 6 months seem right, she was pretty ready on beam , bars was her biggest problem, she would just avoid that by downgrading but she never did so it showed since endurance and strength werent her main qualities
@@MeganDurka I feel like shes been doing the same routine since like 2004 or so but adding a few different twists and turns throughout the years. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that too lol
Pretty nice and lovely. For the first part we see, how the intro goes, the way the gymnasts are shown training for the trails, and what Marta Karolyi says about them. It's good to see that Mckayla Maroney recovered just in time from her injury at day 2 of the Visa Championships. I felt sorry for her.
Nastia was so beautiful here. I think she said that someone pointed out that she gained weight around this point, but she honestly never looked better than right here. Nowadays she looks much older than her 30 years.
Felt bad for Bross, but even if she was healthy, I don't know if she could have made the team. Weiber, Douglas, Raisman, and Ross were all peaking by 2012. Nastia Liukin though, I didn't really sympathize with -- she's an Olympic all-around champ, and to think she can just come back to world-class form in just a few months was a little arrogant....
I wonder how much added pressure Nastia had from her dad and her success in 2008. Did she really want to make a comeback or did she feel like she had to do it for someone other than herself?
That McKayla Maroney fall was definitely rough but it was probably the best way for her to land opposed to her neck, head, or legs that could've given her a much more serious injury.
Those girls are the real super heroes. After Having to put up with that Slime Larry and still perform. Amazing ❤️ and determination. Larry God looking for you!!! He coming
Seanzie P hahaha I will say that in her defense, this was 2012 when NOBODY did wolf turns (especially triple wolf turns). At the time they were still pretty unique, and different from the standing turns
@@ItsSeanzie same!!! like they're highly rated turns for a reason lol. nowadays tim and nastia always hate on them and its so annoying, like during 2018 nationals or worlds everytime someone did a wolf turn nastia would be like "NoT mY FaVoRiTe SkIlL" like girl shut up we heard you the first 10,000 times you said that
The Liukin Gym had a tough meet here: Bross faltering (that horrific knee injury before the Trials just sucked the wind out of her momentum) and Nastia being out of shape. I was really surprised that Nastia made her decision for a comeback as late as she did (kind of arrogant on her part, really) -- she knew what type of commitment and hard work such an endeavor would entail so it was disappointing to watch her not at her best, smh....
It is awful how the commentaries are so lost as mic is most set to capture people cheering and screaming. The sport is beautiful but is a shame not to be able to hear the comments 99% of the video.
I've tried looking it up...but no help.....i was just wondering what Shannon's code of points would be today as her 92 olympic beam....can anyone help?? would love to know what it would be worth today
Al, Tim, and Elfi are brutal...nbc gymnastics commentary has improved but yikes-hard to watch knowing what was going on behind the scenes. I feel for these girls/women 😔
Who else misses the 1 1/2 step outs? I feel like we don't see things like that anymore, and it really shows who can generate a lot of power from such a small step.
Nathaniel Halls I think the requirement was to have at least two saltos in one tumbling pass. So it could be directly connected or you could use a step out
i wanna know whats with gage and forcing their gymnasts to do ring elements on beam when most of the time the deductions wayyy outweigh the small bonus
I’m always amazed at Nastia’s arrogance in thinking she could make a comeback with so little preparation. When you think about Ali Raisman and how hard she worked to be even better for 2016 than 2012 and it just puts Nastia’s lame effort to shame.
Biles is going to be another one who took some time off gymnastics and came back better than she was in Rio. She and Aly definitely deserve the accolades for their determination. It's not easy make it to another Olympics team, as Nastia can well attest. I think the same thing is going to happen to Laurie in 2020 because she didn't give herself enough time to train elite gymnastics.
I don't understand why Nastia and Valeri decided to keep her 2008 bar routine. He could've modified it to better suit the 2009-12 COP and make it more energy efficient
Gymnastics is hands down ONE OF THE MOST, if not THE MOST beautiful, strongest, and elegant sports in THE WORLD. This and rodeo are the sports that ALWAYS find me holding my breath from the moment they step on the floor, or from the moment the chute opens. Each contestant, I'm all like "oh, don't fall off!" Love them both. But gymnastics is my favorite, especially women's gymnastics. Just absolutely mesmerizing. 💙💙
