Update on the MDX Ownership as of 05/14/2024, Since Feb of 2023 I’ve put 21K miles on it without any issues, Oil changes every 5K, As of Jan 2024 I sold the car to my mom who is still driving it and it’s now at 134K miles. With no outstanding issues and just oil changes. Some issues that have occurred have been cosmetic related, Headlights started to fade, Seats started to wear and the steering wheel leather has almost completely worn off. I replaced it a few months ago with a Wood/Leather one, which was a rare option for MDXs. Best decision I ever made. These Facelift Mdx’s start to burn oil but it’s not too severe and it is covered under recall if your miles are low. Other than that no issues, it’s towed 2 cars, a boat, fit a couch in the back, had bikes on the back, Surfboard. We recently took it on a 9hr road trip with no issues! This thing has been a beast, only other complaints would be the gas mileage, AVG: 16.5 Combined 😬 That being said, The 2nd gen MDX is awesome.
I just bought one of these (2012) last night. I went my local Honda dealer and test drove some different used vehicles and this is the one that felt the best. A very smooth SUV with a lot of bells and whistles
@Honda Accord Guy 05 Only downside (to me) there's no Bluetooth, but I do use the CD Player all the time (I'm old-school 🤣) and the ELS Sound System is Insane In a Good Way of course!!
11:50 - That's an aftermarket tow hitch; the factory one sits higher in that removable-panel area. Still super nice to have a hitch with a vehicle that can tow 5k lbs, for trailers, bike mounts, etc! Thanks for sharing!
I just sold my 11 MDX Adv+Entertainment with +155,000 miles. Very comfy hwy cruiser, plenty of space, decent hwy mpgs, and it had the first gen Acurawatch (ACC, CMBS, BSI). Downsides for me was it is a very wide SUV, 360 degree visibility is a little limited, city mpgs in the 14-16 mpg range at best, back-up camera sucked at night, and you must use 91 octane. I had issues with the magnetic struts/shocks that was replaced under warranty and my oil consumption was only 1.5 qts per 9000 mile oil change interval (always used Mobil 1 oil). Side Note: Acura garage Homelink are always active. Someone can open your garage door(s) if they break into your Acura parked in the driveway. I ended up deleting the Homelink buttons and adding a key fob garage door opener for my Acura parked outside.
So far, owning my 12 Tech for 3 months. I have the oil consumption issue. Mines pretty bad, 1-1.5Q per 1K miles. I’ve contacted Acura and they have launched their investigation on my engine and it’s consumption. They’ve done 3 tests and have “apparently” started the process. Reading online Acura should be replacing my engine with no cost to me and putting me in a new Acura loaner for 6 weeks. Not sure when this will happen. My only gripes with the vehicle are the gas mileage, It gets 14-16 City (like you mentioned with yours) And a max of 19-20 on the highway. But realistically my combined average has fluctuations between 16-18. The premium gas is a pain, because it’s 91, not very many gas stations carry 91, it’s all 93, so you have to pay even extra. I really wish I would’ve gotten the Advance model, instead of the tech. I would love to have adaptive cruise and ventilated seats. I’m highly considering upgrading to a 2014-15 MDX Advance SH-AWD or a 2014-15 TLX Advance with the 8spd. As the gas mileage on both these cars are much better than mine. Overall I’m pleased with my mdx but I probably should’ve done more research and considered the gas mileage beforehand.
@@HondaAccordguy05 My 11 MDX Adv was my main travel vehicle at +18,000 miles per year. Wasn't as bad mpg wise since I was usually 19-22 mpg on the hwy. I just hated when I got to my destination and was back in the 14-16 mpg range with city driving. Only the 14-15 MDX Adv came with full Acurawatch and no active damper system. You have to get a 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid or 19-20 MDX Adv for the electronic damper system. I purchased a 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid back in 2019 and had the 11 MDX at the same time. The 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid solved my mpg issue with always getting 25-28 in city/combined/hwy mpgs, 321hp, and always 400-425 miles between fill-ups with the 19.4 gal gas tank on 87-91 octane. The 3.5L +2014 MDX has waaaay less issues, runs on 87-91 octane, LED headlights, updated tech, improved back up camera, and you can see 26-28 hwy mpgs. The +14 MDX city mpgs can be same or higher than the 07-13 MDX hwy mpgs. The 3.5L 13-18 Acura RDX is pretty much a two row version of the 14-20 MDX (you only get the CR-V based awd and no sh-awd available for the 13-18 Acura RDX).
Acura is still willing to replace the engine on a 12 year old vehicle? Shocking. My 2012 has slight oil consumption. Maybe about half of yours.@@HondaAccordguy05
The 1st gen is not horrible. Yes, they’ve been known to have the infamous transmission issues. But those engines are bulletproof I recently checked one out with 450k miles and in immaculate condition. I’ve seen more of these 2nd gen MDX’s with electrical and engine issues. The first generation had more headroom than this 2nd gen. So Yes, This may look flashier, but the quality and ergonomics can’t beat the 1st gen.
It’s crazy my 2008 is Set Up the same exact way as yours. Same color and all. It also has the rear TV folding from the ceiling with the headphones. Don’t forget to change your transmission fluid it’s got 120 K and I paid 2500 for it.
I still see these everywhere where I live with the tech package as well, rare to see one with the advanced package and perforated seats. I have an aunt and uncle with an mdx tech package 2016 black paint and black interior with the front seat headrests shaped differently.
Congratulations I have i one too the same trim but it’s in black and black interior same rims tho it held up since 2012 when I bought it off the Acura dealer it held up really strong edit: LOL 15:55 You got me rolling when you said if you don’t like someone like lives on Ericson drive there a missile feature kind of reminds me of North Korea at that part and hopefully you were okay in the crash when you totaled your x3
Plenty of people have MDXs like this at my School, and they are pretty great cars. When I was looking for my car, there was a number of TLs and RLs I looked into, but I was hooked on Mercedes. Ended up with my 05 E320 and haven’t looked back since. (Also, I understand your fuel economy pain… Im getting like 13mpg right now 🥲)
The parchment seats are the same color like the ones in my outback, but mine area perforated with 4 way headrests and the steering wheel is black with the steering wheel buttons are only on the left and right sides.
Calling the ZDX “ugly” while fawning over the 2nd Gen “beak”, bashing the beloved 07-09 grill, and actually calling your white/tan color scheme, “gorgeous”, is a level of comedy I did not expect from your video. Bravo.
Mine still running strong everyone fits have a egg on top ready to travel 160k miles on it nothing major done to it jus oil time chain and tires 🛞 awd with dvd lot of gas but also lot of hrsprrs power
I have a 2011 MDX with 161K miles on it, just had timing belt, pulleys, tensioner, water pump and oil pump replaced. It was $3444.09 which my aftermarket warranty covered $2037.37 and I covered $1406.72 out of my own pocket. Now my MDX is going to be solid for another 100k+ and it was well worth it. The warranty is $146.43/month. Anyone buying used I say get a aftermarket warranty unless you do your own mechanic work. Love my MDX!!
I’m working on making a recreation video with a backstory. Long story short, I was doing about 45mph and it had just rained, Took a turn and my front tires were pretty baled (I had new ones on delivery 🤦♂️) When I turned the car just kept going straight, loss control and hit a guardrail then spun into a ditch

@@HondaAccordguy05 Well you made it out safely that’s important. No worries but yea it would make for good content. I recall being in a neighborhood I’ve never been and my friend was giving directions, came upon a Y in the road, he said go right, I said no left, locked them up and skidded straight into the curb blowing a front tire. I removed the spare from the back put it on the ground and spent 30 min looking for the jack. It was inside the spare wheel. 😡
Factory stereo in my 2011 MDX is very excellent surround sound audo, depending on the package I believe it is 8 to 10 Speaker system depending on the base or tech package you have. Clear audio deep base
It was $14k out the door, bought it from a dealer in Gaithersburg MD, 100K miles one owner, with new tires, floormats, coils, spark plugs, timing belt, water pump, oil change etc.. So the amount of money I’d save in the future on maintenance was worth it by spending a bit more for a nice condition, well maintained vehicle. It now has 122K miles, I sold it to my mom who is driving it and I’m driving a 2010 Prius, Mainly because the MDX gas mileage was becoming a bit ridiculous (17Mpg Combined) And I wanted to downsize from a 3 row SUV. It’s been great and has had no issues other than an oil burning issue which was since fixed. If you don’t need a MDX, get the RDX, just as many features and gets better mpg, still fast, still luxurious and still good looking. But still the 2nd gen MDX is awesome!
@HondaAccordguy05 you're all over the place. Goes from a mdx to a prius, you don't buy an suv with a 3.7 for gas mileage nor buy an suv with a 4 cylinder
