2012 Audi Q5 sunroof shade replacement The dealership wanted $1500 for the job but I decided to do it on my own and it took about 2 hours to complete. If you need any help comment below
WARNING: DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY!!!!!!! The metal slip that has to slide into the track actually REQUIRES you to take off the entire roof liner from the front of the car to the rear, AS WELL AS removing the entire panoramic roof assembly. Other wise you CAN NOT slide the metal into the enclosed railing!!! “Service Mode” is for Service, NOT repair. This guy will absolutely destroy the value of your Audi if you do it this way! TAKE IT TO A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL OR TRADE IT IN IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD THE REPAIR!!!
So I too am to the last step but the roll of mesh will not fit through the back nor through the roof with the glass removed. How did you feed the new piece, which is just over 1 1/2” or so in diameter into the slot where it goes?
R H , thank you for the video. can you please explain how you got the shade part in the rail( i understand where how it sits on the blue tracker)? where im stuck is trying to get the shade in the rails- i was able to do with gray plastic tabs off and then was able to put them on when shade coil was in track , but wasn't able to get gray plastic thing attached to coil hole ( need some wiggling room to do it , but once coil is the track there is no room). then i tried with plastic tabs ON right away, hooked in the coil , but its too wide ( literally about 2 millimeters on each side ) to get through the back , it hits the shade cable area (bracket) before blue tabs. (if you look from the back) . Anyhow, wondering which way you did yours. thank you
the second half of video is taking it to a dealership. It is not possible to put the shade back in without taking the headliner down. Thats why he didn't show it going back in.
Why do you have to take the blue plastic out? leave it there and install the shade grey plastic clip onto it. I bought a shade shipped from china for $25 total cost and successfully installed on my Q5 after watching this video and some others. This video is good but does not show in details. I have to figure it out by my self how to do it specially the way to install the 2 end plastic clips to the aluminum bar. I wish there is an option to post the photo on youtube to make easier explanation. I took some photos but no way for me to upload.
it's interesting to me that there are about 3 videos on this (and some tiguan videos) that show how to break down the car to get to the shade compartment and then they stop there. what is that all about? i did what you said step by step and then theres no information on how to get the shade into the compartment, then what to do after that because it appears that there are some channels in there to feed the shade through that you can't do without taking it out. then when i finally did get the shade in there, i couldn't get the plastic tabs to work with metal ribbon attached to it. it would be very helpful to see all of that. in fact, i was videoing and if successful i was going to upload that part of it. sadly i was not, i ended up tearing up the shade that i wasted $60 bucks on and broke one of the plastic pieces that you take out after the glass removal. i have no doubt you were successful, but there are some major steps missing that would have been very helpful to see before i wasted two days and sixty bucks and i'm still going to have to get someone to fix it because i'm going to sell the car. no disrespect intended but it would have been nice to see what you (and others) did before attempting this. i will never buy another audi again, at least not with a shade like this.
I was able to get through all the steps in the video and pull the old torn one out. From the top toward the back of the sunroof I slid out the black rubber piece that holds the piece that goes back and forth. From the trunk I was able to take out white plastic roller that holds the sunshade together. I haven’t ordered a new one yet. But put the whole thing back together sans the sunshade. I have the same question as some other people. How do you get the new one in? I assume it comes in rolled on the white plastic. The front has the slid in from the top. But what about the actual white roller? Do you put it in from the trunk or the top from the sunroof side? Please help

I love my audi, but this mesh thing is just a proxy cheap-Arse idea in my opinion. The rest of the car oozes class, but this looks like the work experience kid designed it That’s not a slur on your video, I commend you on your video and that you could replace this shade with kids in hearing distance. My whole neighbourhood is going to be able to swear like a bullocky driver if I attempt this

(My personal advice: If you can’t afford it and you’re worried about it becoming too hot in the day, go get the roof glass tinted as dark as you can to where you can still see through it. Much cheaper and still has the same effect)
