A step-by-step description of what I did to repair the cupholders in my 2012 VW Beetle. This includes removing the front seats, the middle console, the gear shift knob, and the climate control module. I have purposely kept all task in this video even though it's a bit long.
See below for each task by time stamp;
Problem description: 0:26
Battery disconnect/reconnect: 1:00 / 31:45
Front seat remove/install: 1:28 / 28:10
Center Console remove/install: 4:30 / 15:45
Gearshift Knob remove/install: 7:00 / 25:00 (ends at 27:05)
Climate control console remove/install: 9:50 / 19:40 (ends at 23:25)
Cupholder repair: 13:30

Great video. I've got a beetle about the same as yours so seeing your videos is very helpful. My cup holders have broken as well so I need to repair them sometime just like you did here.

So I'm having a similar issue, but my holder hasnt fallen all the way in. The front part is still connected but the back keep falling down. I'm guessing the clips on yhe back got broken when someone slammed the arm rest down on a cup/drink.

Do we actually need to remove the seats? It looked as if we’d be able to remove the center console without having to remove the seats or was it to be able to access everything easier?

It can probably be done with the seats in but, the seats are so easy to remove and, with them out, there is so much more working space to be had. To me, its worth it to take them out if you can.
