This is my honest review and I am glad you are here.
Today, I'm going to be replacing the transmission fluid in my Honda Civic and I figure I would bring you along for the ride. I aim to change my fluid every 30,000 miles and it's now time to do the service.
It is important that only a drain and refill is done here. I personally do not believe that "flushing" a transmission is good for your car, so I stick with this simple method you see in the video.
And I always stick with OEM transmission fluid due to the tight specifications and complicated inner workings of today's transmissions/transaxles. And in my case, that's going to be Honda DW-1 fluid, 2.9 quarts.
Safety is super important, so make sure you use jack stands, or at least put a block of wood under the front tires like I did. Chock those back tires as well. Use safety glasses, and use gloves.
The best part about a procedure like this is that it is totally DIY (Do It Yourself). There's no need to take you car into a shop as long as you have a place to work. So invest a little in a few simple hand tools, and get outside in your driveway and save some money!
Transmissions are expensive, fluid is CHEAP, so don't skimp on your transmission service at regular intervals.
2 Tips...
1. Make sure to check the drain plug for excessive metal shavings when you are cleaning it.
2. And make sure to check your fluid for the proper level by driving your car for about 15 minutes, then cutting engine off & letting it sit for a few minutes and check the fluid while hot (and on level ground).
This review is for the Honda 08200-9008 DW1 Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF -1 Quart 6pack, found on Amazon.

See the description of the video for more detailed info. I hope you get something out of this tutorial, and I hope you have the confidence now to change your own transmission fluid.

Could be wrong but believe there is a transmission fluid filter, “25430-PLR-003” is the part number. Look behind the engine air filter housing, back behind the right side of the engine.

@@kevinschmitz123 Yes you are correct, I discovered this after I made this video. I still have not replaced mine yet, but I will. Local parts stores here don't carry them but here it is on Amazon: amzn.to/3WfrZz2 (OEM) or amzn.to/3zwdWw1 It's funny, the service manual makes no mention of it, but after awhile, it should be replaced I feel like. Thanks for making mention of it!

Why does Honda specify 2.5 quarts for this car?

It's actually 2.9 qts, so just a tad will be left in that 3rd qt.
