Have a 2010 with tech package. You can connect your phone to Bluetooth using the buttons on the radio, you keep pushing the right scroll wheel in until you get to Bluetooth options, turn it right to select it and so on without even using your voice. It’s a lot less annoying. Also the tech package had a way better quality screen with embedded nav, and the fuel mileage font isn’t as pixely and 90s looking. Overall I think for its year it’s pretty technology advanced if it had the tech package.

I found your 2019 review to have misplaced criticism on a seven-year old audio interface considering the huge transformation in the way we use handheld technology and iPhones. Not a big deal really, but I felt this feedback was deserved because you did spend some time discussing the audio interface and Bluetooth features. Pressing "Aux" will switch to Bluetooth if no 3.5mm auxiliary input is connected. It's essentially an "Aux/Bluetooth" button. The car was designed in 2010-2011 so wireless audio was not as ubiquitous as it is now. In fact, at that time most people were still using iPods/MP3 Players or CDs while Bluetooth was used more for hands-free phone use. So the interface was designed precisely to favor CDs (with its built-in multiple disc changer you did not mention), auxiliary audio input, Bluetooth Hands Free Phone operation, and satellite radio (Sirius XM was still big back then or maybe on its way out, and the car came with a free trial of the service) It's not an afterthought or dealer-installed option, but there was an optional "technology package" that may had included more contemporary features. You can also connect to Bluetooth by using the controls on the steering wheel, not just the Bluetooth Speech Recognition method that you described. Once paired, the device will function as both an audio player and hands-free phone, but the interface's built-in phone system is definitely dated. You can manually insert phone numbers as contacts in the car's "Phonebook," but any newer Bluetooth-enabled vehicle will simply automatically sync your contacts, recent calls, and even text messages. I doubt anyone uses the car's hands-free mode versus directly using their phone. There are also two 12-V DC outlets. One is directly below the AC controls while the other is inside the center console. The former should definitely fit a phone charger. Neither are "cigarette lighters" - they are both outlets that you could perhaps insert a cigarette lighter into. While we're on interior, doesn't the 2012 Mazda 3 lack the leather and accents that the Speed 3 has? I don't think there's much else, but kind of weird you didn't mention the actual upgrades between the models' interior, and of course the vastly superior turbocharged engine. Also - I agree a temperature gauge would be nice, but the red-blue light is pretty standard for Mazdas. When the blue light turns off, the car is 100% ready to drive and the interior heating will function. Obviously I love my Speed3, but some honest criticism is the intense torque steering while gunning it, the premium fuel costs over time, and the tight clutch if stuck in traffic PS an aux cord is cheaper and better than a FM radio transmitter, and you should vacuum before you do a video review

Nice review, Zack! I just got a 2013 Skyactiv 3 a couple of weeks ago. It's my first manual and replaces an '01 Stratus as my daily, so it's a massive step up. It's not as peppy as the Speed 3, but I still smile like an idiot just having fun driving and shifting all the time. Also, you can pair your bluetooth device without using the voice command. You can scroll through the radio options with the right radio knob and find the bluetooth pairing in there. It's a bit of a hassle, but I figured it out through the owner's manual. All in all, though, it's a one-time process. I've only found it annoying that it doesn't display the song information in your radio screen, and the lag between the car and your device is pretty bad.

@tayv3 5 лет назад
Older Bluetooth devices would actually show the song playing, but Bluetooth has updated over the years and no contemporary Bluetooth device has this compatibility anymore.

Awesome car but things you should know that weren’t mentioned- the hpfp that comes stock sucks, like really, also the rods that come in the stock engine aren’t that strong, so they tend to go zoom zoom boom if you tune it up or drive it hard. Also paint fade is very common with these cars, mine was left in the Aussie sun for years and the roof paint is pretty much gone. Turbo seals go after about 100k miles as well.

Wrong you can't really tell if the hoodscoop on the gen2 adds more air into the intercooler... since the Gen1 had the same amount of air.. from the front of the car but no visible big hooscoop ^^ that's all... No coolant temp... not the biggest lack in terms of equipment, the most important is the lack of Oil temperature! For sure, especially on trackdays You do complain about the 12v charger in front of the gearshifter but you should have a second one between the seats, that's the one I use :) the one on the dashboard is only used when I connect the compressor to inflat my tires lol I have a MS3 gen2 stage 2 and am from France ;) cool review dude, glad that you liked that car so much in the end of the video... and I smile too when I drive it ! ^^

@@MPSFrance Lol you’re telling yourself that to reaffirm your confidence in the gen1. Weaker rods, more turbo and VVT issues, if you really wanna go there bud 😂
@MPSFrance
@MPSFrance 2 года назад
@@tylerFC1 Turbo issues not that much on Gen1s VVT it's well known from all around the world that the VVT has to be changed on the Gen1 Weaker rods maybe but mostly because the Gen1 had owners / tuners who weren't aware yet of the rods that could bend anytime if pushing throttle too hard at low/mid rpm.. I'm not claiming any confidence in the gen1, the best Mazda MPS is a mix of both ... and a forged engine is the target any MPS fan would love to have ! (means vvt upgraded, no more vvt issues... and with built engine of course bigger turbo)

well... yes you can ^^ with forged internal components and can reach high boost pressures on bigger turbos
@weebingdanperformance4594

@@MPSFrance well when you go and do that then yes but a car that's turbo super sport driving should already have those kind of internals in it why would I want to sink in more money horsepower. They don't build cars like they used to like the supras, 300zx, eclipse gsx and so on
@MPSFrance
@MPSFrance 5 лет назад
@@weebingdanperformance4594 well... You compare the sport version of a hatchback... To some of the most famous sport coupés , that's not a good comparison. Sedans with a huge potential without forged internals and 'hatch ack' can you give me some examples? 😅 ... Just see the 2.0 tfsi from golf GTI / R that can be slightly modified to 400++ and sometimes no need to forge

@weebingdanperformance4594 5 лет назад
@@BrownyTheGamer your engine only has a forged crank everything else is cast. That's good that your car is running hopefully on good tune. But for some serious power I would redo that engine. Just like the Mazdaspeed protege doing stuff half-fast everything was cast they threw a little turbo on it and turned it and that was it
