2012 Nexus 7 Will not Turn on or Charge - Easy fix to bring it back to life

I am not saying this will work for everyone, but my particular device, this is what I have to do every time the battery dies. So make sure your Nexus 7 never gets too low!

Here are the steps summed up that I covered in the video.
1)Plug into computer or USB outlet, if you have the original charger it came with, that is best. Let it charge for several hours, do not touch it! If the screen is flashing, that is okay.
2)Try to turn it on. Try different methods. Try holding the power button down with it plugged in, try without it plugged in, try holding it down as your plugging it in. You get the idea, just try every possible way. If you are lucky like me, you will finally see a charging icon, this means the device is finally pulling in power!
3)After you see the charging icon, let it be for a little bit, then try to turn it on. It should boot up just fine. Now, when you are not using the device, put it in airplane mode, so that battery doesn't die too fast, or just always leave it on the charger, this is a known issue with the 2012 nexus, and it is a pain! But this is the bet fix for this problem.
Maybe you can possibly get someones "bad" device for really cheap and use this method and bring it back to life!

Adeniyi Ibitoye I tried opening mine after 4+ years of no life signs. Turns out the charging port was split in half at the top. Replaced charger board, still no life. I just want my old files back

My mom got me one for my 16th birthday before she passed away i just found it cracked screed didnt wanna charge but honestly im gonna tear it apart and buy a new batter and screen or pay up the butt to send it in and get it repaired has sentimental value have had it for 10 years im sure i have videos and pictures of me and her so hoping i can get it going.

This is DEFINITELY A FIX!! My sons each had a nexus 7, and this happened to both of them! I have done this on one now and it worked... on to the second! (although we already replaced one of my sons because even the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy told me it was NO GOOD. :-( (But it was doing exactly this same thing as my other sons). So I am hopeful it will work as well. Thank you sooooo much for saving me the money of having to buy another one!! YOU ROCK!!!

I was wondering if I should be looking for a power indicator light, telling me if it was charging or something, so this video helped. It had been too long and all I remembered is that it was a pain to charge from dead and my charger is long fried. Sometimes we need something simple, and don't want to dig through thick manuals or irrelevant search results to find it. So, thanks for sharing!

Obviously the one animation means it's charging, but I THINK when you saw just the battery icon outline, the firmware is telling you the battery is so flat that it cannot support booting. As you saw, after the remove-power-reconnect-within-10-seconds trick, if you let it charge for a few hours, you should be good to go. The only thing which might prevent that is if the battery is end-of-life, and won't hold a charge no matter WHAT is done to it. The visuals are fairly good, but I wish each of those conditions were clearly documented somewhere prominent so we wouldn't have to guess.

This definitely has gave me hope to have mine hopefully turn on! I haven’t touched mine in like forever because of the charging issues like you mentioned and that’s when it was running a lot more when I was actually using the tablet. Plus this thing is like my baby. It was one of my very first electronics I have ever owned!

Mlg_Foxy_99 Get a beefier 2amps charger instead of plugging it into your computer or an iPhone charger. Usually 2amps chargers are for tablets and are physically bigger.

So, for me plugging it into a higher output charger did the trick. In my case a huawei 35w fast charger. I'd imagine it would work too with an equivalent Samsung or other model.

If your original nexus 7 (2012) is slow clear update cache and run lagfix trimmer but if it does not work then download nexus root toolkit and example USB debuuging on device and also click USB charging to USB file transfer if ur turned off or in bootloop then no need for USB debugging or changing from charging to file transfer also I recommend downloading custom aosp ROM i would say omni ROM or slimkat but no android 5 ROMs nexus root toolkit unlocks boot loader and backups data eg NANDroid backup if your choosing custom ROM I would go to XDA for this or if normal stock ROM search stockromfiles nexus 7 WiFi (not 2013) just nexus 7 WiFi and try 4.2 or 4.3 or 4.4 if ur using Stock ROM click flash stock unroot and u can browse your own file (for some reason the built in downloaded er doesn't work) if ur choosing custom ROM GOTO advanced settings or something then click flash custom ROM or something and find your own ROM where you saved it eg download Also don't download nexus root toolkit (NRT) from sketchy sites try real ones like softpedia or wugfresh site If u don't understand this very long comment watch a video about this

Thanks very nearly went to jump start the battery. But percerveid and charged it for 2 hours and then unplugged the sub cable and plugged it back in while holding down the volume up key and power key. My nexus 7 had been off for nearly a year and I had just replaced the usb charging port myself.

Awesome....Thank you!! That is what worked for me. After a couple of hours charging, still didn't respond. Opened case, reseated battery connector tab. Then held down volume UP key and power key at same time, while plugging in the usb cable from the the pc.

My 2012 model ME37OT has died, I tried hammering down the microUSB 2.0 unit inside the tablet, because it had a loose zip, and when I plugged in the microUSB, the tablet wouldn't charge. PLEASE REPLY!

READ THIS : For anyone who ever has this problem, just hold down the power button (sometimes more than 2 minutes, sometimes much less) until the screen comes on. That's it.

If, like mine, the USB port has been munted, just get a wireless charger and sit it on that overnight. Make sure the led on the charger turns from red to blue to show it is charging. Worked on mine after four years sitting in a drawer.

If plugging it into the wall socket does not appear to be working, try plugging it into the USB port on your computer. You will immediately see it start to charge back up...

My Nexus 7 suddenly died after I had bought Terraria on it, so I had 4 theories on how it may have died. 1. Battery was completely dead and was no longer working. 2. The charger port was screwed. (It's slightly bent) 3. Terraria broke it from too much memory (Or something like that) 4. Roblox murdered it. Any ideas on how to fix it?

My first Nexus 7 developed a problem with its USB port where the connector was too sloppy to make good contact. I ended up buying a replacement module and putting it in. Surgery on the guts of the Nexus 7 is not for the faint of heart, but it fixed the problem. Another thing to know about the original Nexus 7 is that its USB connection is a flawed design anyway. The case prevents a standard USB cable connector from seating firmly. I got so fed up with it that I sought out a special cable whose micro USB connector is a millimeter longer than normal. That made a big difference, and it would reliably charge the tablet and not fall out.

Had my Nexus 7 2012 for 3 years and replaced the board and battery recently (the old board was an 8GB model and the one I have is 32GB, used, and the new battery is the same spec as the old one). Then, when I was watching my shows on my tablet, the battery died and I forgot to bring my charger. Went to CVS on my break and bought a Micro USB cable, 2.1A charger, and a 3-prong extension cord.

What I do when this happens is put the tablet on the charger & press and hold the power on button at the same time that I press and hold the volume down button. Do this until the recovery screen comes up (Android lying on its back.) Then use the volume down button to scroll thru the choices until you get to power off. Then once it turns off, unplug it from the charger then plug it back in. Anyone know a fix for my Nexus 7 2012 - have got it charged fine but the booting up screen doesn't get past the animated colour dots. Hadn't use in a good 18months or so and it did take a couple minutes at the time to boot up but have left this for hours and doesn't progress beyond that point. It's not frozen as the 4 coloured dots animation plays fine. Have done multiple soft resets to no luck. Should I restart the bootloader? I'm reluctant to hard reset/factory wipe it but will as a last resort. Thanks

Its possible that android system could be corrupted somehow just download nexus root toolkit on PC and either flash stock android I'd recommended any version of android 4 don't try android 5 as it kills the device

Really ? I agree with Makhate Makhate, you need 3 minutes to say that when the battery of your tablet is empty, you have to charge it and that it won't start if the battery is not charged enough ? What worries me most is that some people found this video helpful.

Press the volume down button and power button at the same time for a few seconds. You should see the bootloader menu with the android show up.

Happened to me also, My original Asus adapter went dead. I used my LG phone adapter & works fine just takes long time to fully charge like 5-7 hrs. DO NOT UPDATE TO ANDROID 5.1 as it will make the tablet slow as hell.
