Finally an honest video regarding 1/4 mile times. In some videos they claim a purely stock GTX 440ci 390hp that runs 12.40. This time is not possible without a hotter cam and some additional engine work, lower gears and high octane fuel. The cars in this video are running honest stock times.
This happened a number of times, not just at that time. I think somebody screwed up the wiring cause you can clearly see the red light in one lane at the tree, but the automatic win light in the other. Sucks if you were in the money but lost cause of a technical screwup. The starter wasn't doing his job, should have halted the races until it was fixed .
yes I believe some have been tuned that is the thing when running this class you never knowabout a car, you can tune it and not see any modifications but I think the 11's and 12's have been tuned beyond pure stock
I had a stock 1969 Camaro with the optional 350ci 295hp engine. It had an automatic transmission. I had .410 gears installed and a B&M shift kit. That’s all!! My best e.t ever was 14.77. These videos showing cars running in the low 12’s or high 11’s have major modifications. I owned the car in 1981. I wish I had the car when it was completely stock. It still had the original air cleaner with the sticker 350ci - 295hp. I bet that car would be worth 15k today.
Andrew Tschoepe Your times were solid. Just think about how much your car weighed. I took my Camaro to a truck stop that had a scale and if my memory is correct that Camaro weighed 3900lbs. Your Chevelle had to weigh the same. So running low 14’s is quite an accomplishment.

This is fun to watch for me. Its more realistic to a car I might have. The big time guys loose my interest becouse its so far out of my league. & I get this "pure" stock but even back in the day of these cars alot of them were being modified in some way. So today with reproduction camshafts even then they are generally improved in someway with technology. So to get a truelly "pure" stock class & not have some leaniances would very very hard.
@phuc ewe it's fish in a tin can jk. lol. Tuner means that they've done performance modifications to the engine and/or drive train, suspension basically tuned up or suped up
98% of these cars were lucky to break into the 13's from the factory.. only the very elite cracked the 12's.. and 11's off the showroom floor ?? is laughable. Hardly "pure stock". Cool video tho.👍
Most of the cars in the video are stock and those hitting the 11 and 12 second marks have very little modifications and not to mention tuned extremely well by the owners.
You forgot to finish the sentence: *"isn't allowed."* Per this venues "pure stock rules" [which are similar at most every track], that's not allowed. This will give you some idea of just how strict the rules are at one of the tracks: bedfordspeedway.com/PS_Rules.pdf
