my dad bought one back at the end of 2008 when they first came to the States (a 2009 model). It turned over 168,000 mi this past week, and consistently averages 38-40 mpg, and everything works just fine. aside from the transmission needing replacement at 155,000 mi, he's had no problems with it. and it only cost $27K with the markup due to the exclusivity at the time.

1:52 Prius v (prius + in europe) is equipped with li-ion hybrid batteries in the centeral console between two front seats, the reason is the less volume and weight of those batteries

I know what you mean... My uncle has a '96 passat TDi that he got used some 3 years back. it has 140ish K miles on it but it averages some 45 MPG. not a typo 45 MPG. it's Mind-bendingly efficient. and he got it for 6 grand. (leather,heated,manual,alloys...) That means he has 30,000 left for gas! :)

Are these really loud when the ICE engine kicks on? I test drove a used Prius V and the engine noise (or something) was quite loud.

@Jferrari427 you could probably buy both a Fit Sport and Civic EX with a little haggling.

@jurisdukky around $27,000. $31-33,000 fully loaded.

That's a LOT of money for an economy car. The additional cost of the car will never outweigh the fuel savings.

Haha! You said "Junk in the trunk". Too funny. I'm not a hybrider type of guy, probably never will be. I'd save my greenbacks and put my junk in the trunk of a Jetta TDI wagon and blow those mileage claims away! Great job again to make a boring car fun to watch. Sans hybrid!

For $36,000 you can buy a new Honda Civic or Fit, and with the remaining $16,000-$20,000 you can fuel and maintain the car for the next 20 years.

$36k, plus dealer markup for this car since toyota will limit production. I could buy a 2012 Hyundai Elantra touring (the soon to be discounted wagon) and have about $19000 left over. Even if gas goes to $5/gallon, it would pay for 3800 gallons which would last about 100k. Therefore Instead of this car I could drive a Hyundai Elantra Wagon with no gasoline expense for 100k miles.

@mercmilan06 Absolutely agree with you. 36k is freaking ridiculous for a hybrid toyota. People will still buy it though just because "it's a prius"
@utubeyaw
@utubeyaw 12 лет назад
for that price, the Acura tsx wagon is a better buy
@techdude6693
@techdude6693 12 лет назад
$36K?? No thanks, For that kind of change I'll take a Jetta TDI SportWagen, or better yet, an Acura TSX Wagon

For that being a "new" model I would think Lithiom Ion batteries would be the way to go. However, it is really ugly.

@mercmilan06 I agree! The sportwagen also has some soul while this car is just boring!

$36k, how exactly does toyota justify that?? that's a huge chunk of cash for not much car. so many better choices out there.

I'd buy a loaded Volkswagen Jetta TDI SportWagen and save myself over $7,000. Who's with me?! Anybody who buys this car is a nut.

Geez $36,000 is way too much. I'd rather get a Civic Si and have some money left over.

@mercmilan06 I've had a Jetta. Piece of junk. Most expensive car per mile I've ever owned. About to buy a Prius V

For $36k, I'd consider a fully loaded Toyota Venza, or an entry level Highlander. Toyota makes the best hybrid SUV - the Highlander, but its exremely pricey -- over $47,000 fully loaded.
