( www.TFLcar.com ) This is a first drive review of the 2012 Volkswagen Golf R 4motion all-wheel- drive coming a VW dealership near you at the start of 2012
here from the 2022 video, crazy to see how long you have been doing this and how much the channel has grown and changed. your old video style is almost reminiscent of old uk top gear.
@boy638 The car is only in Europe right now where they are sold out of production for 6 months...so getting one here will take until the end of the year.
Roman, this is a very good first drive review and I am happy you guys were able to achieve something like this... It is a shame that some of your 2012 videos are not as good as this one. Please re-focus as this was really good and keep up the constant flow of new content.
@lardauk No it doesn't. The European car has 270, the American version only gets 256 because VW considers the US to be a hot country. In other words, we have a hot climate in parts that could cause the Golf R to overheat according to VW so that's why they de-tuned it.
DSG used by VW is a manual trans it just has a different clutch and does the clutching and shifting for you but it has gears not drivin by fluid. so its not much heavier and shifts faster than you could.
This video showed the Golf R with the reverse camera popping out of the rear VW symbol. My understanding was US/Canada didn't get the reverse camera in the 2012. Correct?
Someone once said "Driving a performance car with an automatic (any transmission in which you do not have to shift gear yourself) is like getting yor wife pregnant through insemination, you get the same result but you miss all the fun!"
@thewatcherM4 Same reason why I'm glad I got a manual in my GTI. It's easy to replace or upgrade a clutch to handle extra power and hard driving... I don't even want to imagine how much it would cost to fix a broke DSG.
Loving your videos. Although I might hate you guys cause you get to drive fun and fast cars or just cars that handle well (most). But keep up the good work.
Love this car. You have a rocket under the hood, and 5 doors are perfect for a car that show off when needed. 3 Doors are a pain! I use this car for work and it rocks when needed. Great deal, not too expensive in the US
Amazing stout little performer. I just wish they stuck to the V6 setup, that was a sound to die for. Performance will still be excellent in this though.
@PetarVN Sure but can you "pres a pedal and move a lever" within the tens of milliseconds if takes the DSG shift? ...and that is why there is DSG. Also by the way, Lamborghini's can also come with an automatic transmission. As far as I know, you can't get a manual on something like a Lamborghini Aventador.
@clairvale2000 What's that APR reflash? Was thinking of buying the Golf R but also considering the Subaru WRX STI, not sure which to choose. What would you go for? Also I live in Australia as well!! :)
@Psythik notorious for shoddy automatics? Maybe 10 years ago. Have you ever driven a DSG? I have and it shifts lightning fast and so smooth! Haven't had any problems with it either
@SoberGeorge Yea we get DSG but its a 9-12 month wait for one here in Australia right now, although realistically its 5 months and you can get one much sooner if you push for the dealer to look around. I still need to test drive one but even thats a bit of a challenge, need to do a lot of ringing around.
@GuerrillaMuchacho I wouldn't know. But if you really want an AWD car, I would consider an Audi A5, Subaru STI, or Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. All three are roughly the same price as the Golf R, yet are faster off the line and have substantially larger brakes (not to mention other features, depending on the model).
@romanmicagearguy Just wondering where you got yout info. Since the Golf R is already available (with 270hp) in other hot countries such as Australia, South Africa, and parts of Asia.
The German aftermarket specialists, Siemoneit Racing has has unveiled a new performance package for the Volkswagen Golf R that called the R20 Black Pearl. The Siemoneit Volkswagen Golf R20 come with extensive modifications, includes a revised ECU, the DSG transmission, the exhaust and intake systems, the center intercooler and the high pressure fuel pump. The Siemoneit Volkswagen Golf R20 is capable of delivering 350 hp and 485 Nm (358 lb-ft) of torque, which represents an increase
@kevind15 Are you sure? This car with DSG transmission runs faster 0-62mph and faster 1/4 mile. A lot of it because of launch control which the manual doesn't have.
@disengagejam U know if u did a lil research here on youtube u can easily find videos featuring the lauch control of a cobalt ss/tc and i have almost no torque steer in my cobalt. Yes the interior is better than my cobalt ill give u that one but that not the point i was making.
So what? During daily driving when is lightning fast shifting going to matter? Unless you track your car I don't see how that's an argument for dsg being better than manual.
@ezbg i'll tell you why... my mk5 gti with a giac chip took out a stock r32 by at least a couple cars lengths at a .75 mile straight... now im running 278 on the gti and the r32 has no chance in hell... the only way an r32 would be amazing is a supercharger add-age... dont get me wrong, it's still an amazing car, i just wish it had a bit more power... maybe 270ish till 300... you know?
@romanmicagearguy I don't think so, man. VW didn't de-tune it at all. The difference in HP is due to the different types of petrol used in Europe and the States. The petrol we have here in Europe is much more purified and therefore able to deliver better fuel efficiency and power-output as well :)
@LAwrx03 Here's why I would get this over an STI or Evo. The interior is actually really nice. I expect more than an econobox interior (EVO and STI) on a car with a $35,000 price tag. The body on the Golf R isn't in your face like the other two. Don't get me wrong I like the styling of the EVO and STI but I want a car that looks a little classier. Yeah the Golf R is slower but you're buying a lot more car for the money in the end. That's just me though.
@rtyler91 Agreed i had a chance to get a MKV r32 and the only thing that stopped me was the DSG, i don't care if it is a tenth of a second faster i want a real manual
@xXDrumingMonkeyXx the gti is way cheaper but the r out performs better.since the r is awd the tires will wear out faster and will cost more for gas.I would get the gti with many options(navi, alloys, etc) gti is cheaper and better
@BigOwnz however, there is also a lot more of a journey from Germany to Australia than it is to the states. also, i bet that australia has more tariffs. and taxes on cars. Among other things. Trust me, i feel your pain, i live in canada and am used to paying a lot more than the americans, lol. but its a vw, and is totally worth it. i love my golf mkv more than any other cars than ive been in. The vw golf R is my fream car. I WANT! :P
@omidool That is because the R has more power loss in drivetrain then the GTI. Now take the R in the corners and you will see why you spend the extra money. Power is cheap...cornering is not.
@Mudig Dsg is alot faster than a manual. Its the best auto system in the world. the only downside is if you plan on tuning the motor it can only take so much.
