Tools used were the following:
- Plastic Trim/Bone pry tool
- 15mm socket for steering wheel bolt
- Flat head screwdriver (skinny) (for prying buttons out and the retaining tabs from the airbag)
- needle nose pliers (for disconnecting a connector)
- torq 15 if you need to secure the angle sensor for more tear down beyond this. (That tiny screw I referenced).
Steps:
Begin turning the wheel about 120 degrees to the right.
DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY!
Insert flat head screwdriver or pick into small holes on back of steering wheel and pry until the tabs unlock and the airbag shifts forward some. Repeat on the other side with wheel opposite.
Disconnect white and yellow connectors on back of airbag AFTER at least 10 mins has passed since battery disconnection
Disconnect green connection. Push down on the tab and pull toward you carefully.
If removing buttons remove the chrome trim carefully with equal force on both sides.
Pry up under buttons with pry tool and screwdriver.
Disconnect pop tab for wires and remove buttons with wiring.
Remove bolt holding wheel to car and take care to keep wheel as straight as possible. Try to not let angle sensor shift either direction.
Reinstall backwards, and pop airbag into the three slots, ensure no broken circular mounting tabs are in place or your horn assy may need replacement.
