This video was posted 2 years ago but, THANK YOU SO MUCH, Man!! You’re a life saver and that was the problem with my Accord! Thanks again and God Bless!!
I just came across your video after searching for the noise coming from my car too , its a good helpful video changed it in like 20 minutes myself ,thanks 👌
Hello from Aug 24, This helped me out on my 2014 same issue. That 8mm bolt so so hard to losen. Had to get my brother to help and he finally got it crack loose. The belt was a PITA to get back on as well. Cheers to you and this video
What a legend ⚡👍 I was going crazy trying to diagnose and finally found this video. True godsend. Will also be making a step-by-step video on this. Have a few on my Accord I was starting to get used to my Supercharger 💔
Update, I bought an Amazon brand one for around $38 and it went bad after about a year so will have to replace again. OEM is the way to go. Start-to-finish video now live on my channel
sometimes I see that the compressor stops and the sound goes away but often it comes back and stops the sound happens only when the air conditioning is on
Might be a failing air compressor , but sometimes when the air compressor comes on it puts an extra load on the surrounding components I would have it checked out to pin point the problem
I'm trying to diagnose my daughter's Honda Accord. I took it to the dealer, they said it was the alternator, I changed it and the rattling noise it makes on cold up start went away but came back within a few weeks. It does make this same noise as your vehicle but the rattle on cold start up is what gets me. Some videos specify it's the VVT Actuator but others say it's the whole timing belt/ water pump that needs to be replaced. Hondas are so expensive to fix, you don't really want the wrong diagnostic like the dealership gave me. Luckily I bought an after market and took it to my mechanic who only charged $45 to replace the alternator, not a big lose but it still wasn't the correct part to change.🤷♀️
Sounds as a possible vvt/ timing chain tensioner/ water pump issue mainly because of the indicated cold start issue. It’s been seen that some of those engines will have a loose chain rattle noise due wearing doing timing chain guides, and tensioner failure or degradation. It’s hard to really say with out hearing the engine personally. Best advice is to take it to a reliable shop or dealer who can pin point the issue and with proof.
Hi just bought an 2013 Honda accord and it gives something similar. Could I please send you a small video clip to get an understanding . Thank you in advance.
I HAVE A QUESTION.. I have a 2014 Honda Accord sport my electric power steering, my trac light and my tpms light comes on . But the tpms light blinks about 20 seconds and the other lights come straight on
Great job man! I do hate the little rattling of the engine during normal operation. I have an older Accord and its even louder due to wear and tear. I think my tensioner finally went out so I'm going to inspect it tomorrow. How long did it take you to complete this job? Thanks!
I’ve been going down a rabbit hole for my 2008 Honda accord noise. This video helped and could be part of my problem, too. But, your engine does still sound pretty loud. I think it might also be the hydraulic timing belt tensioner that needs to be replaced. I think this is also what is wrong with mine at the moment. Unfortunately it looks like a lot of work to get to the timing belt vs. the serpentine belt so I’m reluctant to change it just yet.
From the top , if you have trouble getting it on the crank sometime you can turn the wheel and remove the plastic wheel well and gain access to get the belt on the crank or compressor but you should be able to get it from on top
Nice video..are the 8mm hex bolt and 12mm strut bolt reverse thread or regular thread? .im doing it to my sons car and dont want to shear the bolt off ..thanks
@@Mechaniclyfe awesome. Thanks for the response..do you know what the torque specs for those bolts are..i read somewhere its either 19ft lbs or 31ft lbs
Just want to say thank you for your video again..i just did the tensioner today and new serpentine belt. Everything went perfect..just a tip for anyone having a hard time with the 8mm hex bolt..use a breaker bar. So much easier when you have leverage..thanks again 🍻
I just changed all the pulleys to my Honda Pilot, power steering, compressor, and swapped out the alternator, and even the tensioner twice. I'm still getting that whining noise again. Looks like it's the tensioner. Both time I've bought replacements on Amazon. I'm gonna go with OEM Honda this time, hopefully it will fix my problem. I'm also gonna replace the belt for shits and giggles.
hey just bought a 2012 accord I have a video of a sound similar to this. Also has slight seepage on rack and pinion but that is not the cause of the noise. Can I send a video?
I’d say it is up to you , personally I like to buy the oem parts because I feel I get more quality for my money, but if your on a budget I’d say you can’t go wrong with an aftermarket unit.
I am an aftermarket person if it failed early. If the part lasted quite a long time then go OEM. Just my 2 cents. If it failed early then the OEM has a problem with its manufacturing and will probably fail again, so I go with another brand.
For rockauto, AC Delco normally has a limited liftetime warranty so when it goes bad again you can do a warranty claim and either send in the bad one for another or buy a new one and send in the old one and get your money back for the 2nd purchase. They will split the shipping by selling you a shipping label for the return.
My 2014 accord is making like a loud whine kind of like a supercharger whine while accelerating. Could this be it? Also I’m getting poor gas milage too from a 4 cyl. Bought used with 86k miles. Tires good, tire pressure good, air filter new, brake calipers good. Any thoughts
I have the supercharger noise video on my channel as well as how to replace the tensioner pulley and the serpentine belt with all the parts needed in the description
@@Mechaniclyfe I'm afraid I order the wrong part. did you just walk into a dealer and get it right away? Or you have to order through dealer? Man I can't stand the noise from my car.
@@Striker50_ last year I replaced my tensioner pulley with an OEM one I bought from the dealer and after one year I’m back with a supercharged tensioner I was hoping to see in the comments if I’m better off buying an aftermarket tensioner
How was it fixed? This is exactly what I am experiencing. I changed the tensioner but the noise is still there. The noise goes away when the gear is in drive or when the AC is on
Forgot to give an update, super quiet now 🙌🏼 got the part for just under 100$ at autozone for anyone who wants to do it themselves 👍🏼 piece of advice though make sure you have a wrench longer than the average sized ones or your gunna need a cheater bar and some muscle milk for your tensioner 🤣
Can this be done by someone who has NOOOOO experience on working on cars? like me. The only things i do is oil change and like bulb replacement. That about it.
Heck, I couldn't even get the T50 bolt loose from the pulley I was originally trying to change out. My first epic mechanical fail at the age of 40. Honestly thinking I have to surrender my man card. 😩.
BTW the secret for putting the serpentine belt is to route the grooved pulleys first, then the smooth pulle. Also get help pulling the the tensioner when putting the belt onto the final pulley.
I have a 2006 Acura TSX K24 and whenever I accelerate to 4,000 rpm or hard acceleration, it makes a supercharged whine. I thought it was the power steering pump. Is the whine normal lol, belt seems okay
The whine is not normal, the whine is from the bearing in the beginning stages of failure. I believe the early k engines have a different tensioner than this design, but I have seen them fail on those engines as well, also make sure your water pump is not the culprit, I have been fooled once before from a noisey waterpump
I woulld say get a long screw driver and listen for noises around the engine, to be certain don’t want to recommend something that I’m not 100% is your problem
Sure man , email me @ justamechanic86@gmail.com The bearing will eventually fail and throw off the belt from circulation to key components like alternator and water pump
Overspray Hey man thanks for the video. Just changed alternator and I’m seeing the check charge system indicator. Dealership told me they replaced the sensor before I bought it. Any thoughts on why it’s coming up. Took it to the shop and the battery tested fine.
Anyone know the torque settings to tighten. Honda Dealer told me that is important. I have the 8mm hex and 12mm bolt off but not sure what torque to tighten to
I don't think it's no torch to tighten just pull the tensioner screw towards you and the tension will get tight. Just replaced my alternator and those bolts be tight on there.
Turn it to your left, if you are using an Allen key you will need more leverage because it’s a bit snug you can use a small pipe to break it loose if I’m that helps
@@Mechaniclyfe do your saying just find the whole assembly or keep looking? I’m having issue now no lubricant or something before actually having to replace the whole thing?
@@Mechaniclyfe Thinking back the car has a lot of miles it may of been better to buy the whole assembly but my main issue was i was watching the belt wobble on the pulley. New pulley no more wobble. So it thankfully worked out. If its a newer car id say go just pulley if its older spend the extra time and replace the assembly.
Unfortunately it doesnt work like that, this is a sealed bearing which means it isn’t serviceable , also once a bearing is dried from grease , damage has already been done and packing the grease will not fix the already compromised bearing.
