2013 Chevrolet Equinox engine removal from the top.
I removed the engine from the top, it does fit snuggly but comes out. This engine had catastrophic failure on one cylinder and was locked up tight.
part 2 will be swapping over all accessories and wiring harness. The timing chain and water pump replacement video is already out and i will link it at the end of this video.

I want to also give you a medal on how I didn’t have to find another video over others that I cannot watch with my wife or children sitting beside me over the cussing. I am using your videos as a model for my project, I will be finishing up today on the exact same engine removal preparing for a complete overhaul on a 2011 equinox and your expertise and instruction has helped tremendously. Concerning that power steering plug I believe Ima cut them in half, then on replacing I will clean and solder them back together, I have knowledge in soldering down to computer circuit board level so that will come in handy, good deal bro

The awd is much more difficult to pull from the top. But it too can be pulled up instead of dropping the front frame. It's just as easy to pull it out the bottom.

One other thing l would like to mention is if you put the Gm vented oil filler cap on the equinox that you will eliminate any chance of blowing the rear main seal! Gm should have recalled all the equinox vehicles and changed the oil filler caps to eliminate costly repairs because of their crapy PVC system.

I am the owner of Caine's car care in dubois pa this has been THE best video I have seen on the internet im about to pull the same motor for a rear main seal just put a new head and timing set with water pump then the rear main started leaking mine is California emissions.oh and my name is Mark

How could you possibly miss that last heater hose ? Can't you see through dense jungles, and around corners, in the dark? Great video, great attitude. Thanks for doing this. It helps me to know how to get to some of the hidden bolts, and to get the catalytic converter down. The lower bolt on the axle support can be removed without removing the axle - pry the CV joints as compressed as you can, and two objects can nearly occupy the same space at the same time. Thanks to Philip Bailey's excellent video for that information.

Yes sir!! I am hoping to have the wire harness and accessory swap video out by next week. I have a Subaru motor to rebuild plus a grasshopper lawn more engine rebuild for a customer this weekend. Fingers crossed they go smoothly. You’re vehicle sounds like it is definitely worth getting either the engine repairs or a new remanufactured engine swap. @@happ3182 it is possible to work around the front differential. Just strap it up like I did and you’ll be good to go!!

my 2013 is going thru this right now. being replaced with a remanufactured engine. I thought the engine blew, but it looks like the timing chain went. Prior to this, i bought it a couple years ago and its been burning a quart of oil every 4-500 miles. I knew I was in trouble. But out of nowhere, no warning whatsoever, blewey. Sounded like marbles in a clothes dryer. Mechanic said, we could buy a timing kit to install. With the oil burn rate it has, Im like, lets just change the engine out. The remanufactured engine has a 5 year 100k mile warranty. If I didnt do this, no warranty and the bad oil consumption would continue. So i thought it in my best interest to change it out while i had the money to do so. Great car! Bad engine, obviously. Bad from the manufacturer. Im also making sure the water pump gets changed out, as if it goes bad (its 12 years old), i looked around and its a 1 thousand dollar repair if it needs done. So killing that issue before it starts.

Excellent camera detail for this pull. Not many vids out there pulling from the top except some with time lapse showing a single camera view (not helpful at all). Really appreciate it since I think I have a main seal leak. Did you ever figure out after pulling the motor what would have been the easiest way to disconnect the P/S plug? Also, mine is FWD so I'm thinking there might be a little more room... this was AWD correct?

Sorry it took so long to respond, holidays were keeping us busy :) Thanks so much for the kind words! The power steering plug, that one beat me up, it seemed like there was an adhesive like super glue holding it in. The reason I say that is because there were clear flakes that I was scraping off the plug when I finally got it out. I think next time or if yours is tight also, I would use a heat gun to warm up the plug and see if that releases the adhesive. This was an all wheel drive unit. I definitely agree that you will have a ton more room underneath to remove those trans to engine bolts and brackets. I’ve got a rear main seal out. Mechanic wants 2k. I could do this myself, I think. But then I still have to pay them 1600 to make the ac work again? I’m hoping you’ll reply , I need to fix this car. I don’t have 2k or 1600. And idk if you’ve driven one of these things but on the interstate windows down isn’t much of an option. If you do reply, thank you for your time sir. Rear main is a fairly large job, I’m not sure if you’d be better off dropping the entire engine trans carriage or not. Either way it sounds like your vehicle needs some tlc! Good luck with whatever direction you go, but if your not pouring oil out of the rear main then save up some money and do the repairs next year. Probably have to suffer a summer with out air but it could be worse.

In the future put the Gm vented oil filler cap on the valve cover and then you will never blow the rear main seal. They only pop because the PVC system is plugged!

I cant get that power steering plug off, the first one the one on top, have the red slider off, pressing down but she wont slide .

That’s the one that I destroyed. I would try a heat gun, not a torch, and try warming it up. It seemed like there was some type of glue on mine.

I went back over the video and for sure you lift the tab in the front of the plug and pull back. Opposite the wire side. If you need the part number for a new replacement plug hit me up I’ll get it for you. Good luck!!

So i gave up on that one plug i think i can push it aside enough to get by the wires, however I was wondering i saw another guy taking the bolts out on the big gear through the starter hole is that necessary?

I would think there would have to be motor mount changes and perhaps engine bay changes because the block would be 2 cylinders bigger. I think you cannot without modifications.

I may be doing another one here soon. However first I’m going to see if I can replace the con rod bearing from the bottom with the oil pan out. It has a pretty solid knock, as long as it’s not the crank bearing.

So 24 hours work and a used Motor comes out to 2400 labour and 2500 for a good low mileage engine after changing the timing chain and water pump exhaust manifold and gaskets so $5000 to fix a car worth $5000 in okay condition? No thanks l would have scrapped it for the $600 and bought another vehicle. This is the result of poor maintenance! Change your oil people! Do it often and mobile one synthetic dextos additive like it is suppose to have and do not buy cheap filters! When the oil monitor says 30% left you change it. GM Is off on the timeframes. I bet the used engine will need the intake valves blasted aswell.

Sorry for the delay. I believe it was a 10mm for the heat shield hardware and then you need a o2 sensor socket. You have to remove the sensor to get the top heat shield off.

@@whatsnextgarage thanks man! Last question, where do you bolt the engine lift? I will do this in a parking lot, is this possible with just one lift? I know I have to switch the electrical harness and the oil pan and valve cover, is there anything else I’m missing? Engine model is DCEW on autozone

@@kyosdaddocumentary7790 on the flywheel side I hooked up on the a bolt hole that sits about 3 inches above the thermostat housing. So it’s drivers side rear corner. The passenger side I think I’ll just used a bolt hole for one of the accessories on the front left corner. I believe it’s doable in a parking lot.
