Thanks for the vid Brother. My handle did not come off like yours. It didn't come off at all. So I just took the entire apparatus out. Used vice grips to pull the cable into the new backing. I know he didn't show how to connect it, but once you see it, you will understand how it works. If your buying this from Amazon, don't put on the handle until connected everything and screwed in the new backing. Finally. Return the carpet to its previous position. It will make things much easier. The Amazon handle snaps on and locks into place. Peace.
Dude! Many thanks! Ford wanted to do just that, charge 300 for parts and labor! Wouldn’t even give me the part number to look around. Said they pay a lot for the catalog 😆 so thank you for showing the part number. Cost 40 for both mechanism and handle on Amazon!
To remove the handle, there are two spring loaded tabs inside the hole that is exposed after you pull off the cover. You need to push those tabs in while pulling on the handle to get it off. I used a small screwdriver but a small needle nose pliers would be better. To remove the cable, you need to push that little cylinder at the end of the cable out using a small screwdriver. To put it back, you need to use small pliers to pick up the cylinder to fit it back in. The cable is really tight so you need the pliers for leverage.
Thanks for posting this! I figured it wasn't too hard, but wasn't sure. Just pulled mine out to confirm that it was the same issue. Ford is overnighting the part. $21.03 total. Wish me luck tomorrow.
This was very helpful when Jiffy Lube broke the handle off. Parts from Ford dealer were $56 for both the bracket (p/n HS7Z-99042C74-A) and handle (p/n HS7Z-16B626-A). These components are much stronger than original. Tab foot that hooks into sidewall is thicker and had to be wiggle to sit down in slot. To connect cable I opened the hood latch so I got mor slack. I pushed cable and sleeve through bracket and then extended cable as much as possible. I held cable in extended position with duck bill pliers and used small needle nose to push the plug in the holder while drawing the cable into the slot.
To release the handle just use a small socket. I forget the size I used but it was a 1/4" drive. Stick the socket down inside the hole and the will release the tabs allowing the handle to be removed very easily.
In my Fusion half way to the hood latch, under the hood, there is a small access box. Inside the box the cable to the lever unions with a cable section going out to the hood latch. Here you can easily release the cable to the lever giving you enough slack to attach the cable at the new lever inside. Then in the half way box it is really easy to reconnect the cable. Don't have to pry the end of the cable around the levers holder.
This video did help out but I just fixed the problem myself.. all you need to do is remove liner over the hood latch peace, unscrew it from the car, take off the latch, replace with new, bring cable all the way through hole and make a loop with hood cable to connect it smoothly, screw it back to vehicle, put liner back over peice and your done.
On the 2013 Ford Fusion. You don't have to remove the handle . Just unscrew the screw off on the left hand side. Then remove the wire from the right. Bam! It's done.
Got through most EXCEPT getting the cable to fit into the replacement bracket without breaking it again. Trying everything and just can't to get the cable to sit right. Any more specific tips on that piece specifically?
Yeah this wasn't the best design from Ford. My first one only lasted a few months before breaking again. I ended up replacing it again and sold the car.
I don't understand how you're supposed go get the handle off. The two taps on the new part I have are really sturdy and don't push down easily. I'm stuck in the very beginning and I can't get the handle off.
It is tricky, I dont have the car anymore and its been a while. But I think you just have to use force to push down one of the sides for it to release. I used a tiny screwdriver to push the tab down.
I am having a similar problem to yours, when you pulled your latch to pop the hood open, did your hood not open at all? I pulled my interior lever shown in your video, heard a bit of a click with some resistance, but the hood did not pop open. Did you experience similar and if so was it just the part shown in the video?
Jay Hammond yes you can access the cable inside the car unless your knob broke off that goes inside the latch. The cable is easier seen if you lift the latch release and you should see the cable. If the knob broke off then youll have to get a new cable. I dont know the process of replacing that if thats your issue.
Yeah after the second Time this broke on me and after the transmission issues, I got rid of the car. This car made me hate Fords after that experience.
@@tallmanflex I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing. This part on my car broke because I accidentally snapped it off because I had to look over my shoulder while reversing. I bough the part last night. Hopefully I can buy the 10mm bolt at Home Depot.
@@tallmanflex I ended up having to repair almost my entire suspension 3 separate times. My a.c. compressor seized up 2x. First time I was able to recover the cover plate and my a.c. Started back up. The second time I wasn't so lucky and that happened immediately after having my temp sensor replaced. I could go on. But I won't. Looking for a replacement car today. 😁
