Thank you for this tutorial. I’m another guy who saved over $200 from following along with your video. Replaced both of my key fobs for my 2015 Ford Fusion with some replacements I found on amazon.
I found it easier to push the pin out when the fob was already out. Also, easier to snap together, when the battery is out first, than put battery in. Great video! Saved me over 200$. The baby Allen key is 1.6mm. Thank god I’m into RC cars. I had an MIP wrench ready.
Thank you so much for your video. I was using a pair of pliers to start my 2015 Ford Fusion. I got the kind of replacements you show on your video from Amazon and I was able to put two key fobs together for $19.00 as opposed to what the dealership wanted. One thing though, I thought it was easier to replace the key when I had the whole fob already taken apart. Thanks again!
@@aircapthank you. I was a bit worried about this too as I noticed my key isn't recognized without first attaching and slightly turning it with my broken fob before turning the rest of the way with my screwdriver.
Thank you Michael Carmody for your video, and the e-bay link! 2013 Ford Fusion key fob with blade that broke at the base. This is the exact key fob that my friend needed!
I would think a little cell phone sim tool could be useful to remove the little pin. I have one of those as a screwdriver bit in my ifixit kit and it fits in that littke hole perfectly.
THANK YOU so very much for this DIY video! I knew all I needed was a new shell, the fob itself still worked fine, it was just the hinge that holds the blade that had broken….. Of course, going to a dealership they tried to convince me I needed a whole new fob that cost a small fortune. Again, THANK YOU!👍
little bit more simple to push the pin out while the blade and spring are out of the fob, not so much beating up on the case, and you may have notice the pin hole is smaller on one side. That beating on the case is may be the reason the spring lost its tension.
What might help the speed of the new one's opening is tensioning the spring. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K3qwG-iara0.html seems like this video would be relevant for how to do that.
The little screw is pretty important, it holds the plastic case together, without it in place you run the risk of the whole key suddenly falling apart, probably when you twist it to start the car.
"I'm kind of a bear." 😆 Yes you are. You're probably the guy that doesn’t know his own strength and breaks everything, lol. You probably turned the key so hard in the ignition that you broke it off! 😂😅 Thanks for making the tutorial and blazing the trail sir!
Open with box cutter on skinny side, driver on other side. Used cheap TEMU (online store..China)battery checker to see my used battery worked but was bleeding down to zero if you hold it and wait , watching needle go down .. New battery from TEMU, one was bad four were good…almost no bleed off… Same picture and battery on Amazon for $6 Two day shipping. TEMU $1.97..10 day wait…1/3 the price on many Amazon products, Same products longer wait, huge savings. Not made in America stuff… But sold from China by American middlemen 😂
The screw was supposed to hold two pieces together. I didn’t put mine in either because I didn’t have that type of small screwdriver tip to drive it in.
I lost the key part on my key fob but I’ve got the fob still ? Bought a new one like this but wasn’t sure if I could have the key itself cut And put on the new one ?
When you had it all apart, that spring can be twisted prob one more time to make it stronger by pushing back area in and turning it. But you don’t really need to. I had to figure that out because spring popped out.I’m talking about the flip key open and close positioning.
What do u mean push back area in? When u have the key removed from the fob do you press down on the side that’s the actual button or on the opposite side? I know you said back area but it doesn’t seem like there is anything push on the back side. Mine has almost no spring tension and I have to manually pull the key out with my finger. Annoying to say the least
@@aircap - Who did you get to cut your key. I saw that the new one was not cut. So how did you get it cut and what did it cost. Thank you in advance. I totally appreciate this video. My key just broke today.
@Michael Carmody - Okay, thank you, I saw another video where the locksmith used his device to swap the key. I ordered the fob from Amazon its arriving today.
@@ldmaze517 once you take it apart, the blank key blade in the new unit comes right out and you just put the cut one from your old fob in its place. Before you take it out tho, look at it close, maybe take a picture, so you put it back together right… otherwise the spring loaded mechanism may not flip your key out when you press the button
Yes this is a great fix, but sir u are misguiding some of us. As u say u remove the key by hitting the back of the hole with a nail. It is not from the back for all of us. I been here hours trying to remove it from the back and it was very simple to remove from the front. After throwing a tantrum. I am very upset with your video. 😡
I am sorry but if that is the case, then this was clearly not the correct video to watch for the unit you ordered. If you read the comments here you will see that this method has worked for many others - for THIS particular model. It sounds like you figured it out eventually, at least.
