This just happened to me on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. My battery went dead yesterday and I didn't know why and it was daylight. It got night time and I seen my break lights were not shutting off. THIS VIDEO DEFINITELY HELPED A LOT. Definitely saved it in my list. UPDATE....I JUST CHECKED AND IT WAS THE BREAK SWITCH STOPPER, I FOUND THE PIECES ON THE FLOOR.....EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID IT WAS. THANK SOOOOO MUCH
@@jsmileyakamssunshine4700 I just had this happen to me on my 2012 Elantra, same exact scenario, grommet in pieces on the floorboard too. Thank God for people like this guy & their content!
@@brizzybuccimi6494 I swear it's extremely easy. You have to get squat down and get right under where the break pedal is. You will need a flashlight and you will see where you have to put the RUBBER BREAK STOPPER IN THE HOLE. PUSH THE BREAK PEDAL BACK TO STICK IT IN. Honestly you can rig it as well cause I did 🤣 I still. Just as long as u have something thick enough to stick between it and it will not fall out I use a car air freshener I could fold up n it's still in there. You can fine the RUBBER BREAK STOPPER ON AMAZON, TEMU OR WALMART BUT U WILL HAVE TO ORDER IT. You do get more than two as well especially on temu for cheap cheap!!!!!
@@421jrsI swear ...I always go through comments as well just in case I may have missed something. I recommend that anyone who has a car to make a specific playlist for the car they have and save videos for future reference!!!!!!
Brake lights were staying on and draining my battery, watched this video, grabbed a flashlight and found the grommet broken on the floor under the brake pedal. I'm not a car person but I'm going to try and order the new part and install it myself. Thanks for all the help and explaining it so perfectly.
I had this problem twice, first time in 2018 dealer did it under recall; Second time happened this week instead of using another grommet that will dry out and disintegrate, I placed a magnet same size as the grommet on top of the pedal arm under the switch. That's pretty much a permanent fix, won't dry out or wear out; that little grommet can affect cruise control, Dole light, loss of speed as you drive , turns off your anti skid, etc.
I have a 2013 Hyundi Accent, and just had the brake lights come on like this. I NEVER seen this before, so thanks for this video; i was able to find the 15 volt stop fuse, to prevent battery from dying! Thank you! i'll be calling to my mechanic tomorrow to see if they have the brake switch to get it changed out, hopefully. Of course, this happens the day before i was going to Daytona for the race. THANKS again! Your tutorial was the BEST i saw on the subject!!
Very late on this I know you’re specific issue is probably solved, but a lot of the time with these kind of old Hyundais, that grommet he’s talking about simple falls off and won’t hold the switch down. Look on the floor of your car in the drivers seat and it’s probably somewhere, just a tiny black rubber doughnut looking thing. It’s easy to put it back
After changing fuses, bulbs and the brake light switch, I finally landed on this video and found the problem was the grommet had completely came off. Thanks for the tip, wish I had watched this sooner! 😆
2013 Elantra, My back left break taillight is stuck on, blew the bulb once. Replaced and blew again. Was this your issue? I want to order new tail lights but don’t want this to fuck up the new ones
A++ Short. To the point. Good focus and lighting. Hyundai has a RECALL on the rubber bumper (p/n 32876-4B000 $2.08 ) under the "stoplamp switch." The black stopper falls apart. The new stopper is clear/yellow. A++
It was very helpful to learn of the additional fuses under the hood… nowhere did I find this simple information. Fixed my brakes in one minute, thank you!
I just seen my car break lights on, its too late to visit a garage, i started my journey to garage but realised i forgot my wallet 😅 on way back just checked this video after typing my problem to Google. Really Thanks for sharing such information 😀 😊
Your video is well informative and easy to follow. Because your video, I found my break light issue.( the grommet was broken in half)I'm a new subscriber from today . Thank you so much. You save me big time.
Thanks so much. After watching your video it took me seconds to replace my brake stopper on my Hyundai Elantra vs me trying for an hour & still came up short.
Hi I’m trying to check my brake lights I’ve done all the fuses and they are good but I’m trying to do the bottle part but I can’t remove the safety clip
Very good video, great explanation. Can you tell me where the headlight fuse is located? I have looked in the owners manual and it is not obvious. Thank you!
The rear lights on my wife's Elantra wouldn't go off. I would never have known about the grommet without your video. I found that it had popped off and was on the floormat. I put it back in place and fixed the issue. Thanks again!
You a goat bro! Thank you for this video. Like others I looked around my dirty floor mat and found the grommet in pieces. Glad I haven’t vacuumed it yet 😂
Thank you for the video. What are the signs of a bad brakelight switch. Previously my brakelight stayed on. I replaced the rubber stopper. Brakelight turns off but battery still drains.
My 3rd brake light is not going on even after replacing the bulb. Is there any seperate fuses that could be the problem with just that light? All the other brake lights are fine.
Question please - My car has a code for brake lamp relay. But my lights are working except the front right turn signal and the bulb is definitely good. Could this affect the front and not the back and come back with that code? Also where does the brake lamp relay go? I have a hard time even finding the part available
Hi!! Thank you so much for your video. Silly questions, my brake lights are working fine it’s the taillight that’s out. Is the 15 and 10 amp fuse the same for the tail lights on the Hyundai Elantra? Thank you!!
For cars that have a push button start, can the brake sensor switch be the cause of a "delay" in the starting process? Sometimes i get in, put my foot on the brake, press the start button, and it could take 30 seconds or multiple tries before it starts up. For clarity, i have a 2015 Hyundai Azera.
Any tips on getting the white clip back in. I’m in Aus and I’m assuming being back to front that is why yours was so easy to get in and out. Took me a hot minute to get but I did it, just can’t get it back in now😢
I’m a 68 year old lady dealing with mechanics where I may as well Vaseline myself for extra protection. I own a 2016 Hyundai Elantra still under 10 year warranty,i know my car needs engine/transmission mounts, has been recalled for ANTI THEFT UPDATE and was due for maintenance BEING at 33,000 miles. I took it to a mechanic to get an PRE-estimate before I took it to the dealer. This particular mechanic gave me an outrageous estimate OF 3k stating I needed brakes, rotors, belts & mounts. It was a different story when I took it up the dealer. After waiting 8 1/2 hours at the dealer the only thing they did was the “anti theft update” and came back with a different story. Yes I do need mounts ( I already know that) They said I need spark plugs every 5k, tire rotation and that’s it, I asked them about the brakes they said they were fine, Next day less than 24 hours later I noticed my brake lights stayed on once I turned car off. I unplugged the lights in order to do some reading/ searching and not kill my battery . Videos Point to the brake switch and one video said if you see broken plastic pieces on floor under brake foot likely it’s a broken connector piece. Then I found your video. BEST VIDEO ON THE ISSUE IM HAVING. Your vid pointed exactly to the piece that I found on my floor mat. Here’s my question. Since I have an appointment at the car dealer in a couples days 5/29/24 how do I convince them it’s not a huge issue and just the small broken piece? Additionally since the Anti theft update my abs warning light pops up when I go to park but turns off once I restart the car. I’ve heard horror stories about this update how it screws your car. Any how now you know my whole life history when really what I wanted to do was THANK YOU VERY MUCH FIR THR EXPERT VIDEO AND ADVICE. I Widh you lived in Miami🌞
Would this switch, if bad, ever cause a no crank and no start condition? I have a 2011 Sonata 38,000 miles (yes just 38) with new battery and starter but still no power at all to anywhere and when button is pushed it will not crank at all. Thanks!
Only one of my break lights are stuck on.. right passenger that is, driver side break light works fine, cant find information anywhere, any tips or answers?
I lost brake lights. Changed the switcher with a new part from auto zone and brake lights still not on. Took it to mechanic and said it was the switcher. Why didn't it work for me when i plugged in the new part? The plunger was completely out so the lights should have come on, correct. Went from a $25 part to a $300 repair 😢
Aren't you going to do the whole history of brake lights what about a biography of yourself? This should only take about 10 minutes. I'm kidding this is a great video you earned a subscriber
So, my god daughters 2012 Elantra Limited has the brake lights stuck on. I removed the brake switch and replaced it. Then tried pressing and releasing the switch and it did not cause the brake lights to come on. I checked the fuse in the engine. I did not check the one under the dash. (Did this all before seeing your video). Could a bad fuse under the dash keep the lights on as well?
Trying to figure out why my brake lights stopped working I checked the fuses they all looked good I'm going to change the stoplight switch today. The only reason I don't think it's the bulbs is because the two sides driver and passenger stopped working at the same time and the center still works
@@jaredthomas4469 I did change the brake light switch it actually did turn out to be the bulbs I've never had a car that both lights burned out at the same time but it happened
Hi, thanks for the video. Quick question- I upgraded my Hyundai Elantra 2018 SE base radio to a touchscreen 7" display radio. In this process I connected ignition wire to the battery for the radio and now it's draining my battery. I was wondering if I can tap it into a fuse which turn on only when the car is ON. Can you tell which fuse location I should go for? Thanks for your response.
I just noticed by someone who helped me check out the lights, the brake light inside the car on the back side of back windshield come on,but the ones at out side on lamps don't,I'd have power going to the tail end lamps but not brake lights.
I have changed out the bulb for the drivers side break light, but the breaklight still will not work on that side. The center & passenger side work fine. How do I fix that?
Hy thanks for your great info. I'm having a difficulty with hyundai santafe 19 front light are permanently on and can't turn them of I've checked all the fuss they are all ok. Anyway salutations please?
I have a 2013 elantra gls and my switch connector plug is smaller on my car and not like the one shown in this video. I was given the one in your video as a replacement and the connection on the switch is not compatible. I have a different switch with a smaller plug attachment. Are there different switch types for these models?
I have an issue where my brake lights don’t work at all, even after replacing the bulbs on all 3, I’m wondering if the brake switch might be the problem
I have a 14' Hyundai Elantra the passenger turn signal doesn't come on, when the lights are turned fully on the dashboard lights up the turn signal light. How do I remove the 60A fuse to test it from the multi fuse link?
Yeah the brake lights were staying on and I found lil pieces of the grommet on the floor directly under the brake pedal,,I ordered a new one off Amazon, They call it a "Pedal Stopper" 10 bucks free shipping how can you go wrong and it's a Hyundai Genuine Part for the 2012 Elantra which is probably the same on the 2013,, Great post and it saved me I'm guessing at least $100,, most electrical problems on cars they seem to charge though the ying yang for,,,lol,,thanks for a great post
I also took a wooden paint stirring stick and made a disk the same diameter and temporarily glued it on the metal plate until the part comes,, The paint stirring stick is pretty close in thickness to the grommet,, and it's working fine for now lol
I have 2014 Elantra and all my bulbs work but only one of them will turn on when mashing the brake? No matter what side I put that bulb on? Does that mean my other bulbs could be bad? I just don't get it if they were bad why would they turn on first of all?
can you pls share your thoughts on the manual transmission clutch pedal?. The problem is I can not shift the transmissionthou the fluid is ok. Is ther an electrical switch that controls the shifting even I pressed the pedal? would appreciate your reply on this. Thanks for the earlier info, it helps a lot. and informative too.
I have a 2014 Hyundai Accent and my brake lights aren’t coming on when I press the brake pedal. I replaced the brake light switch and the grommet is still in place. All my fuses are good for the brake lights. I have no idea what’s wrong.
I have a 2013 Elantra. When the headlights are turned off, the brake lights work properly. When the headlights are turned on, both brake lights are on. When you press the brake pedal, the driver's side turns off and the passenger side stays on. I've replaced bulbs, tested fuses and checked the switch. Any ideas? Thank you!
Hello , My name is Mario, and I'd have the problem with my break light, I just replaced the brake switch and still have the problem, then check both of the fuses , the one on engine first, then the under the dashboard after and I'm still have the problem. Do you have any other ideas????
So I’m having some weird issues with my driver side brake lights… when the car is driving/idling, the brake light is on. But when I brake the light turns off. This is a new issue, it wasn’t always like this. Also when I hit my brakes my left rear turn signal doesn’t work either. But when I am not pressing my brakes my turn signal works. Also, I just looked under the hood and my car does not even have that first blue fuze you show in the video. I am new to cars and would love some help if anyone has any input!
My break lights work during the day when I do not have my lights on, but when I have my Day running lights, or lights on that is when my break lights won't shut off. Can you help?
need some help here: 2013 Elantra, 3rd brake light, left and right brake lights ALL not working. however, turning signal lights, spoiler brake light, and reverse lights are all fine I've checked engine bay fuse, interior fuse, and brake switch. Could the issue be the brake switch even though the spoiler brake light works? what should I be looking for? I'm at a total loss here, all 3 brake lights went out seemingly at once so i know it's an electrical problem.
@@idiotsontheroad39 i changed both lower brake light bulbs at the same time and that fixed it. however, i was never able to figure out the issue with the high mounted brake light.
Hi, both my side break light are not working but the middle one is working. Both fuse are good, I change the bulb light but it still doesn't work. Any ideas? Thank you!
Hate to say it but you're more than likely going to have to get a different vehicle cause I did the same thing for my brake light and only 1 of them works I'm going to look for a different car
Okay so, what if it's just one tail light .. just one stays on (my driverside) only has been a few days this happening and now my higher mount tail light isn't coming on .. my bulbs are good, otherwise they would illuminate but i was told maybe my brake switch or circuit problem but wouldn't this affect BOTH lights, not jus one ??
why does one of my brake lights not go on but the other works fine? i checked the bulbs and they are fine because when i turn on the tail lights they all light up but that right brake light light won’t register when i step on the brakes
Thanks. Mine all 3 brake lights doesn't turn on. But I can turn on and off the rear light. Hyundai Reina 2019 Manual. So this will help me isolate it. I may need to check the brake light switch first and see if it may just be stuck. since all 3 light doesn't lit up when I step on the brake. ^_^ Thanks for this.
@@ravierkonan1694 Yes. I remove the brake light switch. I found out that it was stuck. Sprayed it with WD40 and it's working now. Possible dirt made a friction. it's clean and all back to normal.
My Hyundai Elantra 2012 have a problem with tail light behind the car when engine turned off the tail light and brake light still on I don’t know why ?If you know this You can help me how to fix that.Thank you so much and appreciate.
Hi, I have Kia Sportage 2013 and brake lights make me crazy, sometimes working and sometimes not working I changed the brake lights switch then now they are saying it is a fuse and no one can know the real issue Any idea?
Would it be possible for an amateur to do this on their own? I'm pretty handy, but afraid that anything to fix by myself especially with the break could be dangerous.
Thank you so much! Given me a few troubleshooting steps to check before a costly diagnosis for my wonky break light. My bulb is fine but depending on if lights are on/mid/off one light doesn’t function correctly. I subbed because of this!
2014 Elantra Stop/Brake lights don’t come on unless city lights or low beams are on. I replaced the bulbs (1157 led) Any suggestions? Is there a fuse or something I should check?
