I wish everyone had studied voice and a musical instrument so they would have a fuller appreciation for exactly what it is we're witnessing in these videos. Artistry in every form is expressed by subtleties. Listen to this a few times and you still will miss some. Truly incredible troupe of talent.
I've watched Sound Of Music when I was just 8 years old, I remember Julie Andrews singing this but Joan is such a jazz genius, this is excitingly fantastic!
Terrific performance and arrangement. And Ignasi, what can I say. His introduction was superb, the solo sublime. Or maybe the other way around. Or both. Wow.
Nunca me cansaré de decirlo: el señor Ignasi Terraza es un genio, y un regalo para nuestros oídos. Un toque muy fino, y un lenguaje muy sofisticado, a los que aspiro como pianista.
Ms Fernandez doesn't get enough credit for her sax playing. That solo was excellent! The arrangement reminded me of Coltrane's version. Her vocal was just the iceing on the cake!
I didn’t rush to play this video as, although I loved the movie, this particular song can sometimes be so “cheesy”, but here it is, from the engaging piano into to the last plaintive note, transformed to a fresh and exciting experience. Thanks to all the musicians.
Great happiness brought to us by Sant Andreu with Eva, Joan, Ignasi, Andrea, Josep, Esteve --- in a difficult time made so much brighter by all of you!
I’m happy that you published this at last ! It’s old but very good and shows how long she has been talented. Her diction in English on a very difficult song is perfect !
Eva Fernandez is my favorite singer and Musicians 💯 Also all the young ladies Musicians all have gifts. Eve voice is so smooth and Soothing. Awesome musicians who are on this video. Thank You.💯💯💯💯💯👍.
Oh, my! This is a beautiful rendition of this piece. That lovely and smooth voice takes my heart away to the spheres. Thank you Maestro Joan et al. ¡Viva Catalunya!
FLAWLESS, Perfect tempo...beautiful harmonies betwen the trumpet and the sax, nice swingin singin, mr piano...Well ...This is one of the most enchanting versions of this song i ever heard😍 Keep up the good work guys.
What a refreshing version of this old, well-worn tune. Strikingly beautiful, unsweetened singing, magnificent sax solo! Splendid intro and solos by everyone, Ignasi, Andrea, Josep. Rocksolid rhythm, Joan smiling, wow! Making my day again and again!
Joan, this is definitely a very good presentation. You keep producing very good musicians. If there is an award for teachers , you will be the first on the list.
Eva’s playing is underrated. The alto solo was very tasteful. And the interplay between Eva and Andrea was marvelous! The percussive piano was very McCoy Tyner ish. The more I listen to this cover the more I like it!
I listen to Eva Fernandez over and over. Her rendition of this piece is wonderful. I am also very impressed with her vocal agility. I can see Eva getting better as she picks up tips from great sax musicians like John Coltrane, Stan Getz and Paul Desmond, to name a few. Each of the three jazz greats aforementioned left their unique stamp on jazz. And so can Andrea Motis and Eva Fernandez. iVale! I am also noticing the increasing mastery of the trumpet by Andrea. She does marvelous yet effortless tone variations with the instrument, to stamp her jazz with her own uniqueness; like Chet Baker and Miles Davis, one can tell it is Andrea on the trumpet. She’s just an incredible artist. I tell you, Maestro Joan Chamorro is a great teacher and mentor. Man, Catalunya and St. Andreu have “duende” (soul)! I would like to hear Andrea record Miles Davis’ “So What”...and to use the mute on “My Funny Valentine” ... Andrea should stamp her unique sound on Bruno Martino’s “Estate” and also team up with Eva Fernandez on an up tempo of Kosma’s “Autumn Leaves”...then close the session with Michael Buble’s “The Way You Look Tonight”.
Thank you Joan for gifting us with this hidden gem !!! I’ve seen several videos of this tune from Andrea and a live one with Eva and Andrea from 6 or 7 years ago but I love this studio version, the split screen, the girls masterful horn work and your fantastic band!!! A & E are definitely two of My Favorite Things !!! Happy Holidays 🙏🏽❤️🎄
Believe this will be my last pairing of a Joan star with a jazz great from the past. Eva Fernandez gave me an easy choice...Helen O' Connell the lovely big band singer par ex'cellence with Jimmy Dorsey. Met Helen once back stage found her warm, bright and beautiful.Just like Eva, Bill Burrows.
The sound of the saxophone and phrasing made me speechless. The solo was simple, unobtrusive. Disbelief rushed through my head, followed by jealousy. I finally fell in love with Eva.
That first guitar chord 0:40 is devistating. Eva perfectly carries the theme and Andrea totally gets the syncopated feel. I will sing "pretty girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes with this cadence every time.Very cool.
Beautiful creative singing by Eva, and see how intensively Andrea is watching in this song! In my distant imagination, they are BFFs, leading and pushing each other to an incredible musical development from Sant Andreu to the world!
Ignassi is a magician on the piano. His 'intro' is delicious. I love Eva with her sultry voice and subtle riff at the end to close the piece...Eva is musically creative. By the way, I always enjoy the musical conversations between Andrea's trumpet and Eva's sax. But what else can I say? I really enjoy the music of Joan Chamorro and his fabulous musicians, especially when I am on the Gulf and the sea is tranquil and illuminated by the moon...¡Graciés, Catalunya!
"My Favorite Things" - The best it has ever been performed, IMHO. That duet at 2:40 between 2 gifted musicians who grew up together is pure gold. And the phrasing and vocal riffs by Eva are unique and wonderful.
Simply amazing! Singing this well, at this age, in a non-native language. You want to say something like, "this is a once in a generation talent", and then you remember, she has half a dozen equally talented peers. I don't know how you do it, but don't stop Maestro Chamorro!
That's Ignasi Terraza - this is fairly representative of his playing. I can't think of any other pianist that plays this way; there are so many different emotions that he expresses in his solos - happiness, sadness, longing and hopefulness and all at the same time. Joan Chamorro's channel has dozens of video where Ignasi plays piano, they're well worth checking out. This song in particular always effects me deeply - this for me was always a song that sat somewhere between show tune and novelty song. But with this cover, it's been elevated to soaring heights and all the performances are spectacular!
Excellente version et quel swing! Bravo surtout à toute cette jeune génération de musiciens si talentueuse! Bravo au responsable pédagogique de cette école et aux professeurs !
Joan keeps the discoveries coming, over the years, as new young musical and vocal masters come to the fore out of the St. Andrew Orchestra. Welcome, Eva. Thank you, Mr Chamorro. ❤
Thank you EVA, excellent, lovely, fun! And of course, Thank you Joan, Ignaci, Josef, Andrea, and Esteve for giving Eva a chance to show her best. Just lovely.
Hermosa versión... Siempre es un deleite y un gusto ver el trabajo de estás jóvenes ... Eva y Andrea ...me hizo falta ver a Magaly ...gracias al maestro Joan por este trabajo y sus grandes amigos y maestros !!!
Oh God!!!!! This is why I love Jazz for more than sixty years. Also one of my favourite songs. Oh what did you all play this beautifully, am I still on earth?
Great work byEva. The more I hear her the higher I place her on a higher pedestal. Her talent on sax adds to her stature! Excellent solos by members of the band with Joan conducting. Of course Taraza, Joseph and Pee always stand out extraordinaire!
Just got my Spotify year-end report. The 8 songs from Eva's "Yo Pregunto" album finished in the top 17, including the first five slots. Hard to say I don't have a favorite -- though the continuing wonderful SAJB output dominates here on RU-vid.
