2013 SURFER Poll - In Memory of Buttons 

Growing up in the 70s and 80s surfing Kaisers, I will always remember paddling out through the channel. Buttons taking off from the outside long shot right peak, 4 - 6 foot afternoon during the summers, bottom turn, snap off the top, race to the inside bowl, floater off the top, switch stance in the lip, land it backside no problem, race to the shoulder switch stance again layback snap, then kick out. Smiling the whole time. My surfing idol. A hui hou, Butts.

R.I.P. Buttons.I can relate to getting over addiction and making a come back.You did it man .Surfing in Heaven for sure.Amazing surfer.

I knew buttons through Access Surf and that bradda had the biggest heart. Always caring for others and very giving with his time and friendship.

I always knew he was great surfer seeing him in Many Classic Moments but until you see it for yourself he was amazing saw him one day out in V-Land he was ripping it up he'll yah heard he was a really cool guy wish I got to know him .

2 me, Buttons on a crowded perfect overhead Kaisers afternoon ,pulling into one the sickest barrels I've ever seen on a tanker ,no less! laughing,encouraging the lineup to GO! this was 1977 and to this day I can remember how great the vibe was all because of cousin Buttons. What memories I have as a grom being in the water watching Buttons style and flow. He was Incredible .....

He and his family were VERY kind to me and my daughters when we live in Oahu. I’m sad to hear he’s gone.

Just looked it up. He passed away clean, owner of a surfer shop and father, RIP your with god now.so many people fall in a rut with drugs and it destroys them and their loved ones, and most dont come out of it at the end, he did! #proudforButtons
