I was having horn trouble on my 2017 Silverado 2500 HD Duramax. So I checked all the fuses and everything was good so I checked RU-vid to find out where it was located and came across your channel. I was going to replace the horn. I did everything thing you said to do and now the horn works perfectly fine now. I had the contact cleaner and dielectric grease already. It took me less than an hour to take it apart fix it and put it back together and refer to your video on how to get the connector apart. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! Your video was very informative and the camera work was clear and spot on. I fixed it on 3/9/2021 so in conclusion thanks again.

It looks to me like when the vehicle is in motion, a lot of the water dripping straight down around the headlight would get blown back and some of it probably would hit that connector. I'm planning to try this fix on my own Tahoe tomorrow morning then if it works, I might design and 3-D print a simple shroud to keep it dry. Or I might just wrap it in a few layers of electrician's tape.

On another truck I cut 1/8" ABS plastic and made a shroud for it. Should still pack the connector with dielectric grease.

Thank you for posting this video. My low tone horn stopped working in my 2015 Silverado 2500HD. Upon pulling everything apart, I found the horn connections were just caked with corrosion. One of the contacts for the low tone actually broke off when I pulled the connection off. OEM replacements weren't available, so I wired in aftermarket Wolo horns and added a Motohorn. With all three horns going at the same time, my truck sounds almost like a freight train, love it! Your video gave me the confidence to do the job myself. Well done!

@@AnthonyJ350 id be tempted to swap out the connector for something more water tight or even just hard wiring it if it were my personal vehicle. This worked for me. The horn was an absolute pain to get to on my 2016 GMC. Definitely a two person job. The GMC has a fairing below the headlight that has to come out in order to remove the headlight assembly. I couldn't figure out how to remove it without taking the bumper off, so we did it the hard way with the headlight installed. This issue just started with my 2018 2500HD. I'll list what I tried and what I have found so far. Maybe someone here can help me. 1. Horn doesn't work by pressing on steering wheel switch nor does it work with the key fob 2. I do not hear any clicking from mentioned relay. Where is the relay and what is it's name/marking? 3. Fuse #48 is good 4. Checking voltage at the fuse - I have 12 volts when steering wheel horn button is pressed 5. I've removed the grill and checked the connection at the horn on the driver's side. Connection looks very clean and no sign of corrosion. 6. Attached volt/ohm meter to connector at horn and depressed horn button. No voltage at connector. Assuming one pin is + and the other is -.

I'll give this a look as my '17 has lost one of the 2 tones. As stated in the video, the horns are daisy chained, so I'll look for corrosion on the connectors. My question is whether the 2 terminals shown are both hot or if one is a ground (some OEMs use the 10mm mounting bolt as the ground). And, you'd be better off placing a piece of generic body molding (rubber) on the left front fender to channel water as GM won't be doing squat to resolve that issue.
@AnthonyJ350
@AnthonyJ350 2 года назад
Let us know what you find out.
@glee181
@glee181 2 года назад
@@AnthonyJ350 Definitely corrosion on the "downstream" horn (the daisy chained one). The first horn has the OEM connector on it which does a fair job of keeping moisture out. (Cleaned those contacts and added dielectric grease.) The second horn's connector is 2 small, round receptacles that slide over 2 posts on the horn. No weather protection. Both posts were badly corroded to the point the connection was rusted in place. I cleaned up as much of the rust as possible and made a "crude" fix and got both horns working, but a lack of weather strip along the front edge of the left front fender has to be facilitating water intrusion, leading to the horn failure. As an aside, on a 2017 Silverado 2500HD, the entire head light assembly MUST come out- it cannot be moved out of the way to access the horns (individually mounted). The head light assembly has 4 10mm bolts that need to be removed- one of which is a PITA, accessible from the wheel well (with partial removal of the fender liner)! Thanks GM!!!!
