Welcome to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we'll show you how to change the transfer case fluid on our 2015 Chevy Silverado. This procedure should be the same for the GMC Sierra's as well as the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade. You will need to buy two quarts of DEXRON VI ATF. There is also a magnetic drain plug you can buy just in case yours doesn't have one. The GM part number is 19133162.
Thank you for watching! If you have any questions, please let us know in the comments!

would it be ok if you didnt let it drip out after the test run and be a little on the over filled side?

It will probably be alright, as long as you didn't purposely try to overfill it. Thanks for watching! 👍

2019 silverado 8L90 transmission...im changing the fluid to mobile 1 synthetic, do i use the same for the transfer case?
@TrickShiftGarage

I'm not sure for the 8L90 transmission. But I know for the 6L80 transmission, the transfer case uses the same Dexron VI transmission fluid. The fluid specification might be listed on the owners manual. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 🙂

Can you tell by visual inspection if the transfercase shares fluid with the transmission or not? How can you tell?
@TrickShiftGarage

Hello, the transmission and transfer case don't physically share the same fluid, just the same type of fluid which is Dexron 6. They are closed off from each other. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! ☺️

Pardon me if you mentioned and I missed it, but at what mileage or age would you recommend changing this fluid? If you rarely use 4WD would this make a difference?

I am coming up on 180,000 miles on my ‘17 Sierra and it is part of the recommended service for 180k.

Hello! So it can range depending on how often you use 4WD and the conditions you use it. In severe conditons, GM recommends changing the fluid every 22,500 miles. That's if you do a lot of towing and are in 4WD the majority of the time. If you rarely use 4WD, GM recommends changing the fluid every 97,500 miles. So, it really depends on your driving situation. I hope this helps! 🤟

@@TrickShiftGarage Perfect, thanks. I'm at 92K in my 2016 and I only use 4WD a handful of times on brief trips in winter. This makes me feel better. Thanks.
