2014 Chevy Cruze 1.8L How to replace thermostat housing and details of extra parts needed. 

That hose you replaced, you broke it taking it off by prying it off. The end that goes to the top of the housing is actually a c shaped retention clip that slides off to the side. It is not for snapping into place.

Hey man , I just want to add in. From knowledge that was drilled into my brain over the years, when tightening something down such as that type of part you always want to use a cross pattern. Same concept as when changing a tire and bolting it on. Meaning tighten the top left Bolt move to the bottom right bolt tighten the top right bolt move to the bottom left bolt. I was told if you Failed to remember that step you may potentially have a leak in the future due to flexing temperature in the metal. Correct if I’m wrong !

I've had that same thermostat you replaced the old one with break on me twice now. Don't recommend it at all. Also you don't have to take off the whole panel on the bottom to drain the coolant. I've been able to do it without even having to jack my car up lol.

I replaced my thermostat housing with the exact same aluminum part a year ago in my Cruze !!! Haven’t had a leak since 🙏

Also be careful with the oil cooler outlet pipe, I dinged mine up and had to replace it. Pretty sure it's made out of aluminum also.

I bought the same part with lifetime warranty. This is my third time replacing it. Check engine light disappears. About a month later, every time, fans kick on, and check engine light pops up. Its trash but I’m getting rid of the car soon, hopefully and I’m just glad I can go in and get a new part at no extra cost due to the lifetime warranty. Don’t buy a Cruze people, this car has been a leaking, breaking down nightmare.

Thanks for this how to. I did buy the gasket for the oil cooler line that you had suggested, but cheaped out and didn’t buy the throttle body cooling line you had suggested.. initially. I did have to buy it because it simply broke off inside the old housing when disconnecting.

There is an identical connection on the throttle body other side of the throttle plate. Replace the 5/16 o-ring to prevent a leak there.

Thank you so much for this video! We have had so much trouble with the coolant system on our ‘14 Cruze LS 1.8L For the last 3-4 months. It started with a crack in the coolant overflow reservoir, then the thermostat (we replaced the thermostat only, which you will see was a bad idea) and the sensors, followed by the water pump, and only 2 weeks after replacing the water pump, the idiot panel told me “A/C off due to high engine temp” & the fan was going nuts. There is plenty of coolant in the new overflow reservoir, and with all the new parts, I feel there are only 2 more possibilities: the thermostat housing assembly/water inlet or the head gasket. And it is definitely leaking from the housing. Hubby & I are both mechanically inclined, but had a hard time finding a video that showed this process on our exact model of Cruze. Your video has saved the day! So I’m off to pickup the Dorman housing as well as the gasket and a new hose, and get this done so I can be back on the road. So thank you SO much!!
