I weld in and finish a patch panel on the right rear fender of a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country. See my similar video on a 2011 Town and Country. The patch panel is from Mill Supply part number 850848R and fits 08-14 Town and Country, Dodge Caravan and VW Routan right side.
Rocker trim removal is shown in more detail in this video: • 2011 Chrysler Town and...

All repair videos should be like this. Simple, quick, not a bunch of fluff or watching you cut, grind and paint. Great info

Thanks Nick. Just trying to help the next guy attempting this repair.

I have these on both sides of my wife's T&C. I plan on grinding it down, using body filler and painting it and it will go straight to one of those places that will buy the car on the spot.

The metal repair isn't that hard to do. You might want to give it a try!

There is a rubber grommet on inner door jam in front of this area you can spray under coat in might prevent rust from starting.

With my 2014 "Lancia Voyager" here in Europe the same. This is the same as the Town & Country only a different batch. Wheel arch right, plus rusty folds on the tailgate and driver's door.

Wow! I am planning on doing the wheel arch and driver's door on mine this spring! Funny how they rust in the same areas!

@@neilloughlin7080 They all went through the same exact automated painting process, nothing funny just pure engineering 😀😀😀

Is it worth looking in junk/salvage yards for entire quarter panels or fenders, or in rusty areas of the country are they all going to be rusted out like this? I need to fix my 2008 fenders (both) and quarter panels (both.) I've never welded or done body work.

If the rust is in the front fenders I would recommend looking for rust free fenders in a Pick-A-Part junkyard and bolt them on. Since the rear quarters are welded on I would use the patch panel I used in the video. If you don't have access to a welder and just want a functional repair that may not look perfect you could cut out the rust leaving a lip of solid metal and overlay the patch panel. Attach it with rivets or panel bond glue. You could use body filler to cover the overlap seam and smooth it over. Be sure to treat the rust underneath. I use POR 15. A little goes a long way. Hope this helps.

@@neilloughlin7080 Thanks! I had no idea the quarter panels are welded and structural. If I could get access to a welder, do you think this is something a DIY'er could do watching RU-vid videos, or is it something that shouldn't be attempted by a newbie?
@neilloughlin7080

@@royarl You could cut and fit the patch panel and remove the rust. Then take the car to a good body shop or local welder and pay them to weld it on. That should be a lot cheaper than purchasing a welder. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

There's a good view of your shock bracket at 6:09. If you had been replacing the shock, couldn't get anything to grip the nut on the back of the top of the shock even an S-style wrench due to the nut's corrosion, and had tried removing the 4 bolts holding that bracket on, and the 2 bolts you can see in your video at 6:09 had snapped off... What would you be doing? Bolt extracting has not gone well. I see some other people have had the same issue and have just welded the bracket on. Would love your opinion, since you seem to know welding. There must be some reason they chose bolts rather than welding. Also, would you buy a new $25 replacement bracket, or use the original bracket with some rust on it? Thanks! 😕

Here's my thoughts on that...I suspect that the upper shock mounting bolt is rusted into the shock bushing which is why it won't come out. I would have then gone after the 4 bolts holding the bracket to the floor. Since 2 of those broke and extraction isn't going well, I would go with the new bracket, weld it where the 2 bolts broke and use a new mounting bolt and nut on the upper shock. If you have a shop weld the patch panel, they could weld the bracket at the same time. You could install it using the 2 bolts that did come out and they could weld the other side. I suspect that the bracket was bolted at the factory so that the shocks and brackets could be assembled off-line, then the assembly could be bolted into the van. Just a guess. Good luck with your repair!

Just discovered rust on my 2014 T&C. Must be another design defect. No sign of rust until this year. Just outside of that 7 year/ 100,000 mile rust warranty. Meanwhile my wife’s 2005 Pontiac Vibe has no body panel rust. Go figure.

Yup! I've done this repair twice now. I look at other Van's in parking lots and I see the rust bubbles starting on them. We will see a lot of these rusting in the coming year.

You caught me! If you look through my videos, I made the same repair to my 2011 T+C van which is also gold, but a slightly darker shade. I had the paint for the 2011 van but didn't have the lighter shade for the 2014 so I said, "Close enough for today!". I have since purchased the correct shade of gold and have made a recent repair to the 2014 so you will be glad to know that I repainted it in the correct shade. I will be posting a video showing the new repair and you will be able to see the repaint. Good catch!
