2014 GMC Sierra Denali 6.2L V8 Pickup First Drive Review

( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2014 GMC Sierra Denali with the 6.2L V8 is all new. General Motors has redesigned the pickup along with the also new Chevy Silverado HIgh Country to appeal to the top end of the luxury pickup buyer. On the inside and on the outside both trucks are new and redesigned. Both trucks also share the same 420 HP V8 and the same basic layout and components. In fact both trucks only differ slightly with their logos and their design. In another fun and informative TFLtruck video, Roman drives the brand new 2014 GMC Sierra Denali 6.2L V8 Pickup just outside of Austin, Texas to see how much GM has improved their most expensive and most powerful trucks.

I just purchased a new 2013 2wd gmc 1500 crew cab, with a 6.2L. Love the truck and have seen it over 20mpg, driving it at 70-75 mph with some city driving, it is averaging between 17.5-18mpg. Really like the 6.2L. Oh yeah, it was 39,000 before the rebates. Its an sle with the max tow package. Didn't want all the other crap that most people want, didn't need a sunroof or fancy console or navigation

Great video. But a 6.2L in a half ton seems like a bit of overkill. The 5.3L chevy we own always seems to have plenty of power and we run the hell out of it on the farm. We actually quit buying 2500 pickup because we found we could do everything with the more modern 1/2 tons that we could with the older 3/4 tons. We get a lot of funny looks pulling a gooseneck livestock trailer with the old girl but she get up and screams and will pull anything we got at 65MPH (or more hehe).

The purpose for their videos are focused on real world circumstances based on real world opinions and just those based on the opinions of professional drivers and journalists. They offer a balance of experience and normality that we don't get from the other magazines or Chris Harris. This like hearing from a local food critic about the new restaurant and not just Gordon Ramsay.

Apparently you haven't priced trucks recently, I've seen king ranch trucks well over 60k and 2500 and f250's upwards of 70k. But as far as being outrageous, yes i 100% agree

***** That mpg is what I get on my 01 burb 1500 (5.3, 4spd auto). The only difference is that configuration is 320hp/335ft/lb, versus 420hp/460hp.

Hell yeah. Get these new trucks home and put them through real world testing. Cant wait. One would argue that your Ike Gauntlet testing is not real world testing. For me it is because I live in Colorado.

Ah the new 2014 GMC Denali. Let us now forget that all GM LS based products will rattle around while cold like a diesel until they warm up, then instruct the dealers to deny all claims - "I don't hear anything". I've got a Denali, paid good money for it, rattles like marbles in a can. My advice, save your money and buy another brand - don't care who just not GM. They refuse to admit/fix this & still make the same design today.

Hey Tony: Ram is still a live axle, not independent suspension. It just has coil springs, not leaf springs. No wonder it is CAR and driver....

They would need to really lighten it up, but it could be done. What they are using is basically the Vette engine retuned for torque at lower RPM, which is better for a truck.

Back in the 70's when you went to a car dealer, 8 out of 10 trucks were work trucks no frills, two wheel drive. Now when you go to the dealer you can't hardly find those trucks. Buyer demand and manufacturers profits have turned the truck into something else. We should maybe call them Trux now. The X signifying luxury. Does anybody else have a name for the new Truck?

Loyal American truck owner here and u had me on this new model until u mentioned it has "cylinder deactivation". GM KNOWS they have a big prob with premature major engine failure with these cylinder deactivation engines and GM refuses to stop using these engines due to recent EPA regs. Buy 2007 model or older GM V8 or do NOT buy at all.

Watch Roman and Nathan put both engines through the ike gauntlet. And I do realize the 5.3 got jipped with the rear end. But its still not going to compete with the eco boost which was built by Ford with all intentions to tow. And I personally am a GM guy. But they need to figure some stuff out and catch up with everybody else. The new engines got good fuel mileage on the highway only keep in mind the 4 cylinder deactivation doesn't kick in till 45mph. And they get as bad a gas mileage around

Alright, let's say I want a 6.2 Sierra, and the only way to get a 6.2 Sierra is you have to choose the SLT body style. Now choosing the SLT body style, the chrome that comes on the doors is mandatory. I don't want a truck that's all chromed out. I like the SLE body style where the door handles match the paint of the truck and the grille isn't chrome. But I want the 6.2 engine which doesn't come in the SLE body style. So now what do I do?

GM really needs to go with a different cam grind in those LS based truck engines. Not making maximum torque until 4000 rpms is stupid for a truck that you are going to be towing with. I have to ring my 2012 5.3's neck all the time when towing. I miss the old vortec 5.7's from the mid to late 90's!
