On your video for the rear brakes you stated torque specs of 40ft/lbs for the caliber bolts, in this video you said 68-80? Are the torque specs different for the rear brakes than they are for the front? I'll probably look and see if I can find the manual for my 2013 Mazda CX5, But was just wondering. Awesome video has always appreciate your concise to the point information

Thanks for mentioning the details of this job, I have this same shimmy on my wife's CX5. So I'll have to do the same very soon. I'm surprised you didnt lube the slide pins. I'm wondering if the problem with these vehicles is the slide pins get stuck easily.

Will this work for the 2016-2023 CX-9?
@tomhelsby5546
@tomhelsby5546 Год назад
I am somewhat surprised that you did not take the sliding pins out, clean off the old grease (which hardens) and re-grease them. This will ensure that the callipers works correctly as a floating one!

Last time i changed my brake pads on my 2014 cx5 touring i could've swore the master cylinder required some special tool to compress. I think i had to make do with screwdriver. The one you show isn't like that though 🤔

Should the area behind the rotor be wire brush cleaned before installing the new ones?

What brands did you have before and end up replacing them with? I'm look at a Centric set, I wonder if it's any good.
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 3 года назад
Well they were the duralast brakes and rotors..i usually get brake pads locally cause of the warranty..it basically gives u free brake pads for as long as u own the vehicle..u can exchange em at any point as long as they didnt get down to metal....ive used centric brake rotors on a ctsv recently, so far they've been good.

My 2015 CX-5 needed a 8mm x 1.25 bolt to remove the rotor (not 10mm x 1.25). Also DO NOT attempt to use the caliper bolts for this. They seem like they might work, but are 8mm x 1.00. You will ruin the caliper bolt if you try (take my word for it).

Is there not a bolt that holds the rotor on? It seemed as if there is just a void you screw into to back the rotor off of the hub.
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 4 года назад
Its actually useful for getting the rotor off. On vehicles without those u gotta tap the rotor free, on this one, u just screw the bolt on and the rotor pops off.

The rotor is held firm once you put the wheel back on. The rotor slips in place over the wheel studs.The rear face of the wheel butts up against the center face of the rotor(called the hat). Once you tighten your wheels lug nuts the rotor will be nice and firm.

Why should we wipe off the coating on the rotors? I don't want them to rust
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 3 года назад
They put it so they wont rust on the shelves or in transport..its a sticky coating if it got on the brake pads it would contaminate em and they wont work as good
@lonniebeal6032
@lonniebeal6032 3 года назад
Some rotors have an oil coating to prevent rust, so yes. If you buy rotors with a zinc coating, no, it will wear off quickly where the pads contact it.

Using anti-seize on the bolts before you torque them is a good thing to do.
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 4 года назад
U dont wanna use anti seize on lug nuts or any critical bolts like brake components..on brake caliper bracket bolts many actually use loctite so they dont break loose.
@F3141592653589793239
@F3141592653589793239 26 дней назад
Using anti-seize or loctite or anything else will affect the torque when tightening the bolts! And pretty massively too, using the recommended torque may damage the bolts when “lubricated” like this.
@sophiemosley625
@sophiemosley625 2 года назад
If there is plenty of meat left on the Rotor it would be cheaper to get them machined.
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 2 года назад
Yes that is true, but normally when it comes to steering shake it doesnt always completely even out the rotor or maybe they dont turn em down enough..but other than that its definitely a good option
@skinner690
@skinner690 3 месяца назад
Fuck dude I'm a dumbest. Followed your video "to the T" and ended up only putting one pad on the front of the rotor and not one in the back lmfao. For some reason there wasn't anything on the back side of the rotor when I took it apart and your video only shows you installing front side of rotor brake pad so I just assumed one pad per tire. Lesson learned
