I met Paul Newman years ago when he was driving this car at a testing day at LRP (and blowing past my BMW 2002 racer). The car is a piece of Motorsport history great to see Adam driving it regularly.
the 300 zx chassis were built in a barn in Western New York, the body panels also, a new factory 300 was stripped bare and used as a plug for the mock up, the fenders were all built up with foam, shaped, sanded, bondo-ed, primed, and the coated with a release agent, covered with fiberglass cloth, to build up as molds for the fenders for the car, the chassis was tig welded, by a friend of mine, and the builder also fabricated out of aluminum the motor mount/ suspension mount. I was lucky to know the guys at the shop, and had a hand in delivering the chassis and molds to Bob Sharpe Racing, Danbury Conn. where the cars were assembled and finished. Didn't get to meet the driver, but I get the nickle tour of the race shop, just as they were dyno testing one of the motors for those cars
That car is such a BEAST! Just fantastic! His genuine love of cars and racing really endears me to Corolla; not just racing, but classic race car racing. It’s a special thing and really separates Corolla from just a “rich guy going racing”, much like Newman himself. You can tell he does it because he loves it, not because he loves how he looks doing it 👍👍
Adam, thanks for doing this, it's a treat to be able to watch and listen to you and the cars racing! I've always loved auto racing since I was a kid. And the era of the Nissan you're driving I remember well! I will never do what you do. So, for me to sit at my desk, have a drink and some snacks is great fun! Keep doing what you love keep posting your racing and keep buying the cool cars I will never buy! :) Thanks again!!!

Cool. I remember watching PLN driving the earlier (and wild) 1981 280ZX version of that car at Lime Rock. Unfortunately something failed on the car and he drove off the track at the "S's" (turn-3) and disappeared without a trace into the brush. He walked out a couple of minutes later and watched the race from the flagging station.
934 is a 1976 production car with a narrow body and a CIS motor. Had to closely resemble the street 1976 street 930. It had electric windows, door panels and I think a lighter. All my 934's were converted to full 935 spec so not sure on the lighter:) The 1977 was the 934.5 with larger wing, fender flares and a mechanically injected motor. The white #7 Lawrence brothers Porsche is a 934.5
Great drive - smooth and fast. Good commentary - could do with more driving comments if poss (e.g. here I just touched the kerb/that looks like oil (Corkscrew)/this understeers here/slippy corner here/power comes in at x revs etc.)

When you are sliding into it, Dukes of Hazzard style, I like that it says, "Paul Newman" on the roof, and it is legit. Those were some very cool cars you were with out there on that most excellent track. I saw those GTR tailghts getting a little squirrely and thought, damn, that Giulia is fast, ha. That was a neat little 914. That black one you did a thing about that belonged to Wayne Dempsey got stolen, then he got it back a few years later, which was a bit of a shocker. The guy just did not see you coming at the start, and yes, he did block you. Did anyone get hurt in that wreck when the guy's wheel came apart? There are parts of that track where you could really be flying. The fire shooting out the side is my favorite part.
Like watching this Z in action, damn nice car. A couple of good passes 5:22 and 9:00 but yes, loses time through the Corkscrew compared with other cars.
Adam, It kind of looks like you are babying the car. Not seeing a very aggressive accel at corner exit, no heel toeing and seems like the upshifts are a bit lazy. Is this just how the car is supposed to be driven based on the big turbo or is this just not a super competitive race?
most accidents happen from aggressive passes in the corner making up for being blocked. LOL from blocks at the gate especially going into turn 1....granted this is a for fun event....you could bet if there was more than pride on the line.......what would/could happen
AC- the 934.5 Porsche had one turbo and some extra rear bodywork, but the front still looks like a 911. The #7 car where you discuss this in this video is a 934.5/935 and has two turbo's (each adjusted different; to first lessen turbo drag which was a problem in the single turbo, and 2nd to give top end). #7 has the 935 rear (needed for coolers for two turbo's) but retains the 911 looking front, so is not quite a 935. All 935's originally were 934's updated to 935 spec. This all might not be exactly correct, but it is close, and along the right lines. DM-
almost.....the rear 935 flares had no intercoolers in them. The twin turbos were both the same size. #7 is what they call a 934.5 and not all 935s started out as 934s, but some were upgraded to 935 spec.
Wes Tipton Nobody is perfect but he looks comparatively slow through the Corkscrew to me, what caught my eye was that effete little flick he gives when shifting lol. It's great to see this car in action, truly, it just seems to me that the lap times should be a little bit better than they are given the history of the car.
