I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and I installed the bags inside the coil. They made a big difference in how the truck rides when pulling our 31' travel trailer. Definitely worth the time and money.

I don't even own a 2500 and I still loved this video! I subscribed a while back, mainly because I came across your great Subaru videos, but I always appreciate any video you put up. I would tie both of those air lines together with a T fitting so that I can use just one valve. If the line should develop a leak, It would be better if they both deflate at the same time instead of having one full while the other one sags. I would put another T fitting in it and connect a small 12 volt compressor w a check valve somewhere in the cab and have the power wires for the compressor running to a switch on the dashboard. The beauty of this is that you can also have a valve in the cab to deflate them from inside. You can also put a PSI gauge in the cab to see what pressure you have.
@MPGamingCentral
@MPGamingCentral 9 лет назад
The only downside to plumbing them both together is it would make the truck very unstable. if all the weight goes to one side, it would deflate that side and inflate the other. almost like tipping a tray of water to one side.

I love people that say this^^^ Clearly they have never tried forcing much air through a 1/4 NPT orifice, its next to impossible to move a very large volume of air quickly through 2 air fittings a tee and 6 feet of tubing. hahaha The Air-Lift brand has Tee install notes lol

GREAT write up as you were a guinea pig for an early kit! Just ordered for my 2015 2500. I have a Superlift 4" coil lift that only raised the rear 1.5" so when I tow or haul I get a LOT of droop. I plan on using a 1.5-2" spacer between the bag and included bracket to compensate for the lift. Also installing remote inflation kit.

I just installed a set today on my 2016 power wagon. You can install the bottom bolt from front to back without cross threading, but holy hell is it tough to line up. It literally took my about an hour just to get one of those bastards in. Time wise, probably a lot shorter just to do what you did. I considered drilling, but I would have had to remove the shock to get that done. I am by no means a mechanic, but after I watched your video it looked fairly simple, which it was, except for the stupid bottom bolts. I found the kit was pretty bad for fitting, but its doable. Thanks for the video!

I've got a Firestone on my 96 Silverado 454 Extended cab 2 door Dually (2 WD). Mine has the compressor for adding air mounted under the hood and hooked up to the controller with the pressure gauge mounted under the dash (next to the brake controller). This way I can adjust by adding or releasing the air while driving. Never did the install for it but had to get it back to useable running condition when I got it. Great video, well done

Tyler Stewart.....When I first started looking at airbags for my trucks, it seemed obvious that putting in a "T' would make air bags so much easier and better. One fill valve. Perfect balance of the vehicle. But one fill isn't all that great. There is no "evil tee" argument. Using the "T" isn't going to ruin the system. It's just that bags work a lot better when they are independent. How much extra work is it to inflate each side separately? Put the Schrader valves right next to each other. It takes very little air to inflate the bags so its really just seconds per side to do the job. It just functions better. Firestone has been manufacturing these systems for decades, and they suggest using seperate bags is preferred. They make on-board inflation systems that are single and dual, so they obviously think its OK to use a single fill, but they do say the system will give maximum functional benefit if separate. Makes sense to me and the benefits far outweigh the very minor drawbacks.

I work at a sod farm, I cant tell you how many people yelled at me and my guys to keep loading their trucks and cars up so they don't have to make an additional trip. Mind you sod balls wet are around 45lbs a piece. One guy went down the road with his leaf springs flattened out. Its a miracle the guy made it home. Sure its not safe at all to let them go down the road. But when your getting yelled at , after a while you just say screw it, and good luck lol.

Hey Brian, I've enjoyed your video's for quite some time now, and just subscribed to your channel. Your information is very valuable to me and many others i'm sure. I think you should do a video on a 2003 Dodge 3500 Cummins Clutch replacement, I just happen to know a guy who has such a vehicle. (hint hint wink wink) Its really tough to find a good honest thourogh Machanic, I know this because i used to be one, and have worked for a few shops that were less than honest. I do most of my own wrenching, but can't do the heavy stuff anymore, as my body is much older than my mind :) I think your in Utah, and i'm not that far from you, well worth the drive for me to have piece of mind about the guy working on my truck. BTW, I also have a Subaru that the wifey drives (01 Forester) so your subaru vids are worth thier weight in gold. Thanks for all you do, your needed, and highly appreciated.

Google brought your excellent video to my electronic fire window. I'll most likely choose a Ram/Cummins 2500 with coil spring rears as my next truck. Seeing your install and review help me choose between factory coils and auto air leveling. One question: Have you lifted your truck on the rack by the frame or only the axle? The Firestone installation manual says not to lift by the frame but if you do, fully deflate the bags. The only concern is if I leave the truck at a shop and the tech decides to lift the truck by the frame possibly damaging the bags. Cheers.

Well done- why is there two valves, I would have thought one valve to fill would suffice and stabilize the pressure between each bag.

NO it doesn't hahaha I guess everyone that buys a tee has a truck tipped over on the side of the road?
@michaeldoherty2289
@michaeldoherty2289 5 лет назад
@@tylerstewart6011 Even Firestone says it does make the truck unstable and not to use a "T". It's not going to tip your truck over, but it will not perform like individual valves do.
@tylerstewart6011
@tylerstewart6011 5 лет назад
@@michaeldoherty2289 The Tee is completely safe to run in the correct situation. Scenario one " Correct Usage" Customer is hauling centered weight in bed or behind truck (AKA) Four Wheeler, 5th wheel, Goose-neck, Bumper pull, Frame hitch, dirt, gravel, boat and anything else that won't cause a off center load. Scenario Two "Incorrect Usage" Anything that would cause the load to be off center or shift (AKA) water tank, crane, welder, in-bed off center. Another situation that a Tee would not be recommended would be if the customer has something in the bed with a high center of gravity (In-bed camper). The tee would be considered with common sense, will the truck see an off centered load (If no, use Tee) (If yes, choose to keep them separate). I'm not really sure where the evil tee fitting phenomenon comes from, somewhere on the dark internet must be a forum filled with people who must talk about this on the daily. I personally feel that if this was truly an issue big name suppliers (Summit Racing, Jegs, Napa, AutoZone, Fastenal, SD truck, Etrailer.com, Autoanything, Amazon) wouldn't sell an item if they felt it would cause and issue. These air-spring manufactures have been around since the 30's and 40's and i'm sure the use of a Tee fitting soon followed after. I feel like some consumers misunderstand how it all works and before getting out of the neighborhood they think the truck will just TIP OVER lol If this was the case we'd have trucks and SUV scattered all over the interstates. Could you imagine the madness? Just one ton trucks everywhere, all over as far as the eyes could see HAHAHA If only there was a business that's been around for half a century, backed by the government and employed like 50,000+ people to investigate motor vehicle issues. You know. Sort of LIKE the U.S. Department of Transportation. Just highly educated and highly paid individuals looking into issues. Now, don’t you think if the use of the Tee was incorrect they would of stepped in by now? When Adding anything to a vehicle its entirely up to the customer to do their due diligence and fully understand the parameters of what they are getting into. Again, taking the time to step back and consider the load situations of the vehicle. Some positive features of the tee when used properly would be that its convenient to fill at one singular point rather than going back-and-forth back-and-forth. Another plus is that in the event that you may have an air leak the springs will evenly deflate and not cause the vehicle to be all jacked up on one side. The argument with that is that if they are kept individual that its possible the other side will be able to help carry some of the weight and allow the customer to get to a safe location to fix the air loss.

Brian, If i remember correctly etrailer.com put out an installation video for this kit or one similar on an F-250 within the last week or two. Might be helpful to anyone else out there planning or considering airbags. Also, check out elderlyiron's recent video on a 1941 PowerWagon. "tough to get the airline in"... It seems to me that you reversed the top plates as that flair out on the bracket seems to be where the air hose was designed to run through so it wouldn't be hindered by the bolts and as it doesn't seem to serve any other purpose. If this is the case it might cause an airbag misalignment which may be why the bag looked cockeyed when it was deflated. No disrespect to your experience or skills intended.

Brian, My name is Tyler and I work for Firestones Tech support line. I would like to help point out just a few items about the video. The installation of the lower bolt should have been installed from front to rear. In "Figure A" of the install guide is shows the bolt installing from front to rear, the reason for that is the rear side of that jounce block is threaded. As you can see the entire bolt that we supplied is not threaded, the neck of the bolt had to of been forced through the treaded side of the jounce block which is why you most likely had an issue. The bolt is designed to go in from the front so that the threads in the rear of the block can guide it through and allow you to run the nut down to hold the brake line on. All of this is discussed in step 4 of the install guide.. If anyone needs photos to better understand the correct installation of the lower bolt please feel free to contact us @ rrtech@fsip.com The second item I would like to cover is the coating on the brackets, I have been pushing for a better coating for some time now and understand that when a customer opens a brand new item they don’t want to see chipped paint. The third and last thing I want to cover is that it seems as if your kit didn’t come with the inflation mounting hardware to keep from having to drill any holes in the truck. The kit can be performed as a 100% no drill item. I would like to send you a pair of Firestone gloves and mounting kit if you would like to contact me @ rrtech@fsip.com Great video by the way and were happy the kit has performed so well for you. Thank you, Tyler This link might get you to the photo. scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/p235x350/10917442_10153088658254379_5774860327760644018_n.jpg?oh=f16f65bcd603752ccc4592a414da6d52&oe=55286FCC
