2014+ Silverado OnStar Disable/Remove & Location

Great video (here's some changes) the 3 wiring clips he took off leave the top one connected ! The top one goes to the XM satellite. You notice he only tried regular radio stations on video. So leave top harness connected and take the other two off as directed. Also down in the bottom left corner you'll notice in the video as well when you get your dash apart there are two more larger harness clips. Remove or unplug the one to the left (bottom left). This one kills OnStar ! You'll notice in video he has light on mirror that's gone from green to red and he can still try to call Onstar. Removing this larger clip there is NO LIGHT, NO ABILITY TO CALL and NO WIFI ...... SYSTEM IS DEAD ! PERFECT 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍

thanks alot!!! I heard of OnStar tracking the truck's every move speed and location to aid police in ticketing... I don't agree with that what so ever so I disabled it. I greatly appreciate it! 😁👌

Hey man I hear ya. I'm no criminal but that doesnt mean I like anyone having access to my location or any electrical system on my truck. Something about paying 50 grand for a truck that someone else has the built in ability to disable if they so choose.

Delete on Star from rear view mirror; Pry out the rubber buttons. You’ll see a micro switch on the circuit board. With a razor blade, carve out a cavity on the back side of each button. When the buttons are pushed, they won’t make contact with the micro switch. Push buttons back into place.

You only need to remove the purple one. If u disconnect the other two u will loose navigation if you got it.

This data is being collected and used against us. Allowing it it basically anti-american. This information is being sent to servers in China. Because the unit has GPS it should still being able to track you but can't listen and collect that much data. If you sync your phone with it, it does bluetooth information from your device to their servers. Thanks for the video I just got a truck today and am disconnecting it but will be looking for another option for radio if I keep this truck very long. At least my phone I can put different ROMS on and block many things from tracking. I don't do anything wrong but these things are even sending information to insurance companies and your driving habits can change increase your policy. There are a million bad things people don't think about.by data collection

The GPS antenna is the one on the right, it is passive. You can either just unplug the cell modem, or remove the board and replace the gps antenna with an $8 one and hide it inside the top of the dash or find/make an extension cable for the lead behind the screen and run it down to the HMI box underneath the bottom glovebox. Before doing this call and insist onstar remove their services to the point that it turns off their darned lights as well. Best of both worlds! Private and GPS works.

We live in a free society. If you don't want to be tracked this is your right. People fought and died for this. It's one thing if they used it for safety only. But to track for any other reason than that is unacceptable in my view.

So deactivating the OnStar will disable the GPS tracking system?

It can still track. Because you never removed the contector to on star that's in side of LG mod.

Thieves appreciate this video!! Had my new truck 21 FN hours before thieves stole it! ONSTAR had apparently been disabled by them. They have yet to locate my truck now nearly a month later.

I recently got a 2015 Sierra at an auction, but now I can't get it to start. It was previously stolen before ending up at the auction. Do you think the On Star module has anything to do with it not starting?

Nope. 2017 GMC 3500. I did exactly as the poster said and disconnected all 3 antennas. Onstar is still reporting though the geolocation is off by a radius of maybe 20 miles. Start and end times of trips are still being reported as are my driving habits. This sucks....

My 2016 2500 won't start. Can you confirm its because of the OnStar Module.

All you have to do is find ur onstar box which also controls other stuff. Unscrew the cover go to motherboard and take out the biggest chip and put back and u have everything working except OnStar..smh..after that take out ur information fuse..bam..

I just want to use my basic gps without it asking for the OnStar start location.

A genuine question.... I notice most people just disabled their onstar.... why not just take the whole box out completely and use it for target practice? Is there a legitimate reason people put the box back in and just leave cables unplugged?

Unplugging those cables disabled all kinds of stuff. There are two boxes behind my radio in my 16 Colorado. Wish somebody could make a specific video for newer Colorado's 15-18.

This method DOES NOT WORK!! Obviously a plant. You have to remove the chip connector in the box. I don't like OnStar constantly calling me because they knew the truck was running and moving. They were always trying to get me to renew my subscription.
