My insurance increased, I was wondering why, no accidents or tickets $500 increase... Asked insurance for a report they get from LexisNexis... Turns out Chevrolet/Onstar or whatever sends your driving data to insurance companies! The Datee, Time, Distance travelled, Hard braking, Hard Accelerations, High Speed Events logged and sent to your insurance company! I bet they get paid for that information as well, I will never buy another Chevy or any Car with data recording; I'll buy an older pre 2000's car if necessary.

If you want to keep your Microphone for phone calls, and disable OnStar only take off the Purple/Burgundy antenna which he struggles with @2:21 into the video. I did just that testing, and everything works like normal, bluetooth (with Microphone for calls), and Onstar system does the same thing that video creator shows at the end.. simply tries to call OnStar and can't connect. Hope it helps others.

They can immobilize your vehicle with on star, perfect hack to do on a fleet or corporation. You never know what's in the works these days, hence the reason to have it removed.

@@B.I.-EIO_macdonald9786 No part of onstar is open source. You will never know what it is doing. Only by replacing it with your own hardware and software will you have any say on the data it provides GM and it's 3rd Party partners, including the government.

Part of the new infrastructure bill that was passed no long ago included making new vehicles with remote shut off / lockout. They want to control where we go and when we can go there. That's why they want all electric vehicles so we're 100% dependant on the government. Do some research. They want us on the same social credit system China is on

Worked. I did it by pulling the 3 prong fuse and using a 2 prong fuse. I had to bend the prongs closer and sort out the connection. Either no AC and heat or no Onstar. Got it first try. 2021 GMC Canyon

The microphone for your phone connected device will no longer work if you disable the onstar. All the more reason why people hate having onstar.

Excellent! I recall reading in a car magazine back in the early 90's how these OnStar systems were designed by DARPA....GM used to brag about it actually 🤔 I haven't liked this idea from the start, I like some GM vehicles but want nothing to do with their tracking devices...next the government will shut your car off, if you hold "unacceptable views" as our Canadian Prime Minister calls anything he disagrees with. Now you can't find anything on the internet about DARPA making the OnStar system. The info has been hidden; all there are now are videos of DARPA showing how they proudly hacked an early model GM (of course, they could do it, they designed the darn thing). This will only get worse and new models will probably begin to make the vehicle inoperable when you remove their tracking/hacking devices. The more I learn about automotive "cybersecurity" the less I want anything to do with connected vehicles and devices. Good riddance!

Just watch out on the 2018 silverado, it actually had dual antennas module. but if you do the fuse trick, you will loose your microphone for bluetooh. But with just the module pulled, make sure you set your time and date or android auto won't work.

There is a much easier way... Under your dash there is a communication card that hooks to the cellular antenna then to the satellite antenna. It takes 2 small t torque, to remove the chip... OnStar is still in, but, it can't communicate, no codes so far, Sirius radio works, my maps work, but, doesn't update location change. Took less than 5 minutes...

Excellent video. If I knew more about On Star I would have never bought my GMC Canyon. One question: does your procedure also disable the annoying warnings that appear on the plasma screen? You know the ones. When the outside temperature drops below 32, you get: “ Roads and overpasses can be slippery. You must slow down and drive carefully “. OR, my favorite: " Reading messages on the plasma screen while driving and taking your eyes off the road can cause a accident “. The last one is on a clock and appears exactly once a month. You MUST tap the OK button on the screen to get rid of the message. Thanks

Great vid , I agree don't want any body trackin me , I laughed at my car ins. saying if I let them put a tracking device in they'd give 10% discount.. NO THANX !!! Anyway I also have a bit of a sensitivity to wireless if close by for instance in a house if I'm sitting by wifi too long i get bad headaches , And I'm buying a new car the 2022 C8 Corvette now I really don't want any wireless stuff don't want wifi, OnStar any of it Can it al be disabled ? The 1LT has minimal so I may get that but the 2LT has alot more nice options but unfortunately has more wireless crap .. Do you think it's possible to disable all the wireless junk Thanx brotha

I know the video says Silverados up to 2021, but my ‘21 Silverado console doesn’t look like the older models. Has anyone tried it on a ‘21 Silverado? I disconnected my onstar by disconnecting the rooftop fin, but my dash still picks up 4G LTE while driving. Just not as much as before.

Why not just rip the GPS antenna out of the top of the truck or a van or car and be done. After the first mailed reminder, telling me how many miles I had and when the oil change was due, mine got ripped out along with a “Kompass”transducer.

Ugh isn’t there an easier way? 😭 I recently received a letter from my car insurance company telling me they basically purchased my data from someone else about my speed and breaking and I am assuming it would be sold by onstar rather than coming from apps on my phone because onstar data would be more accurate. Just ridiculous and pisses me off! I never gave anyone permission for this!

Dont get a GM… My 2017 Corvette and 2017 Camaro v6 both had the crappy 8-speed auto transmission shudder (basically your transmission kills itself over time). The fact that GM still hasnt been sued for it is insane. Waste of 2 cars for me, not to mention all the other people who have that issue. The Vette had 24k miles on it too, and was basically a lost cause. Local transmission mechanic told me that their TSBs dont actually fix the problem, and that on average, it’s about $6k in various parts (plus service) to stitch the transmission back together every 2ish years. And not the same set of parts are affected for every vehicle with the issue.

So where you able to keep your phone and be able to use hands free from the steering wheel. I notice when you disconnect the box you had no ONSTAR and no Phone, then you removed the ONSTAR motherboard and plugged everything back in and your Phone was lit back up.

2024 Equinox...yanked the 5 amp Onstar fuse. Only issue is I no longer have speaker phone with my bluetoothed phone....but bluetooth works. I can deal wit that

When you think about the number of tin foil hat privacy nuts there are in the world and how they outnumber all the possible people and companies that are interested in watching THEM you come to realize they wear the tin foil hat but NO ONE is actually watching them and likely wouldn't find them interesting enough to watch if they cared to do so. Removed the fuse and replace with spare 2 prong 10Amp fuse from driver fuse panel. This side has spares in the panel that you remove to access the fuse box. . Onstar not working now.

What did you mean when you said 2020 vehicles would be encrypted? Also can you make a little more detail video of what you were doing at the end? Do you need to replace the 3 prong with a 2 prong to fully get rid of on-star?

He means that they're going to integrate OnStar with the engine computer so that it can't be removed or disabled without taking the engine offline. They already do it with modern German cars.

Considering it disconnects the 4G, most likely can’t use the app to start anymore as the car no longer has a connection to the outside world so to speak

Seems like a decent tutorial for car thieves...🤔🤨 still if some cop or the repo guy wants to find you...your phone will do fine as a GPS tracker...even just using the cell phone towers themselves you can be found. That's how 911 finds you when you call from a cellphone.

My 16 sierra's circuit is different- the lityle one underneath is directly plugged into the top one and has a brown and a purple plug. The top circuit comes loose with the cover. I just put a piece of cellophane between the top and bottom connectors and put it back together. Onstar unavailable

Sure you could take it out, cover it up do the bodywork, match the paint, blend, but your getting past being reasonable. But if you just break it your literally just letting water in to soak the headliner. So i dont see what your point is. Only a theif would snap the antenna to keep onstar from tracking them weather its a car theif or loan dodger. You must be a loan dodger. Now if you want to get into my portfolio. Ive done 5 full afm/dod deletes on this generation of truck. Ive tuned about 20 of this generation alone, basic turnoffs, but i throw in a modified tourqe converter table into all to ease up on how much they are abused. Im wrapped up in about $10,000 in diagnostic scanners and gm programmers. I like loud/fast shit, hate shops, and am stubborn. So you bet your ass i became a mechanic. Anytime one of our cars breaks down i get to enjoy some beer and fixing it right the first time over the weekend.

The sister in law was a gang member,.....she wanted to be notified about my moms health,.......as soon as her phone rings she sends the cops to my house for a welfare check and the yell at me like a drill sergeant? I had mom change her hospital info now,..... the bitch has Adult protective service's threatening me. I need to get rid of the tracking device but can't find it. And also Onstar.

I have a Chevy traverse 2021. Its a lease car. Its easy to unplug the cable under the dashboard. Problem is that i can`t use the Bluetooth if i unplug the cable. Another big problem is RADIATION especially for kids. i don`t use the service but its always on and active. That`s crazy.

@@aemt4uYou don't know if they are going to shut it off for other reasons in the near future, laws change and those laws can be oppressive and totalitarian, there's tons of instances of that. But if you're fine with somebody having control of your vehicle that's your choice.
