Only 15.2hrs on bike since showroom. Lunges forward when revved in neutral. No noise when in any gear. Turned out to be some bad bearings and a couple worn parts. Thanks to RAY for saving the day on the rebuild!!
It’s a very common problem in all Yamaha bikes of a later model , the clutch housing is too close to the pressure plate causing it to run up against the inner cover and cause a screech sound , my professional suggestion is to buy a beefed up gasket for the outer clutch cover , boom problem solved
I accidentally ran the oil level low because I was checking the oil on the triangle stand and not level on a normal stand. Anyway, it trashed the main bearings. It's been years but I'd have to ask my buddy what all it trashed but it wasn't much. He put everything back together as it was. Still on original clutch and top end cause everything was, and still is, in perfect shape.
Your video and comments helped me. Just bought a 2015 and it did this 10 min after I got home from buying it. 1 trip around the neighborhood, pulled in garage and revved it twice. 2nd time it clanked and started to sound EXACTLY like yours. Pull in clutch and goes away. Just ordered all bearings for the trans. Thanks for following up with your fix
My 02 yz125 was making this noise It was jus rebuilt ,the people that rebuilt didn’t put enough Oil I guess because when I drained it dripped out ,I put new oil Nd the noise stopped I drove it around for a hour in it was perfectly fine
Hey man so did you ever have any issues with it after that because mine is doing the same after changing the oil i changed the oil again started it rode it and now its fine but im a lilttle worried its going to leave me stranded or something
Hunter Hess change your countershaft cause the end bearing is broken already on the countershaft you will only hear it on 1st and 2nd at first but it worsten u will hear it on all gears
The main bearings were trashed because I accidentally ran it low on oil because of the bullshit fill procedure as listed in the manual. From now on, I drain out the oil and add almost a full bottle of oil and call it good. That "checking to see if oil comes out of check bolt" bullshit fucked me.
@ceetwarrior so my bike makes kind of a similar sound but its only when I'm riding and let off the throttle slowing down. If I pull the clutch in, it goes away right away. Do you have any idea if it's the same issue you think. You said it was the main bearing? The main bearing for the clutch, sorry im not very mechanically inclined
Yamaha bearing #'s, 93306-90504-00, 93306-90501-00, 93306-20562-00, 93306-20540-00, 93306-00442-00, 93306-00426-00 were all the bearings that needed to be replaced because of this problem.
@@chrisbeck7361the clutch cover was touching the pressure plate. Not much at all, just enough to sound like it was going to lock up or something crazy. I pulled the cover off and sanded down the little casting buttons on the back of the case and haven't had a problem since

s870.photobucket.com/user/yzgoat15/media/YZparts.jpg.html is a pic of all the parts needed to fix mine. I opted to have my friend change out 3rd, 4th, and 5th for wide ratio WR450 gears so cost a lot more in parts, while I was there.
ceetwarrior fuckin same thing just happened to me on my 2016. still gotta fix it video helped me trouble shoot so thanks !! In the manual it also states how much you add-in liters so I may go with that.
